Chapter 158: The Tyrant Who Lowered His Head

“Mr. Carter!” After seeing William briefly raise an eyebrow at his youth, the newly hired coach quickly walked over, tightly gripped William’s outstretched hand, and shook it twice with force and enthusiasm. “Your youth and achievements make me feel ashamed!”

This was a coach who knew how to speak. He did not directly praise William, but used self-mockery and self-deprecation to set off just how remarkable William’s achievements were at such a young age.

This was a very effective form of flattery, and one that made both body and mind feel pleasant. Kane, standing to the side, glanced at the warm and cheerful head coach, and could not help thinking of the unofficial official from the Intermodal Authority and how he had introduced the man: this was a tyrant coach.

But facts proved that any tyrant had moments when he lowered his head, as long as he had a need.

Of course, the coach’s words were not entirely flattery. Everyone knew that operating a professional club cost a great deal of money. Even though their team still had no stars and consisted only of ordinary people, it would still cost a great deal.

Each player’s supporting equipment and consumables alone were a large sum. Add field maintenance and personnel wages, and even if they did not have a single star player, William would still face various monthly expenses ranging from ten thousand to several tens of thousands of dollars.

In the head coach’s eyes, William, at his present age, might not even need to attend university. To have achieved this much at such an age and to operate a professional club, whether through his background or his ability to start from nothing, was indeed worthy of respect.

“Let me introduce myself. My name is Mordok. You can call me Moore, or Momoko.” Momoko was a pronunciation. In truth, he had concealed another name for himself: Tyrant.

William nodded once. “Head Coach Moore...” He glanced at the people lining up by the roadside, all looking at them with curious eyes, then asked, “How is the selection going?”

Mordok nodded, fairly satisfied. “We’ve picked out a decent batch of boys. As long as they don’t slack off, they’ll soon be able to adapt to this sport. As for the girls...” He looked at William and Reynolds, whose face was full of curiosity beside him. “Perhaps you can give me some advice, boss.”

A very slippery answer. Reynolds immediately looked at William. There was no doubt that he was very interested. William did not refuse either. He nodded in agreement, and while he was at it, he called the Foxes and had them come over now.

The Foxes had promised to form a women’s football team as well. Now happened to be a good opportunity to let them understand the selection process and coaching staff, a kind of warm-up.

Before long, a group of people were sitting in the office. After looking at the process for selecting women, William quickly called a stop.

Mordok had simply assumed William needed an excuse to get some pretty girls around him. He had underestimated William’s scope. Professional women’s football was not the hunting ground William wanted. It had other uses.

Among the girls who had come to apply, many were very pretty, but one could tell at a glance they were the soft type. They might be suitable as eye candy, but in high-intensity confrontation, they might not survive one season.

“Boss, do you really intend to let those girls compete on the field?” Mordok looked at William in disbelief. He felt that this handsome young man seemed to have something in his bones ... bloodthirst, or something else.

It was hard for him to imagine what it would look like when a group of pretty girls, wearing protective gear and running, slammed into one another. In his poor world, there was no phrase like “turn pale with fear” to describe that shocking scene, but one could still imagine it.

From the moment this sport had been invented, no one had ever considered letting girls join it.

And even male athletes often injured themselves or others in competition. Broken ribs and fractured shins were as common to them as daily meals.

Perhaps a simple collision could break several bones. Those girls certainly could not endure it.

“Head Coach Moore, I must remind you that this is prejudice against women!” William stood on the moral high ground and criticized him lightly. “The Women’s Rights Defenders Association is also paying close attention to the Women’s Career Movement I initiated. In the future, some of their people may often come here to watch games and training up close, so you need to change some of your thinking.”

Mordok apologized for his thinking without the slightest hesitation. The reason he could put his posture so low was, on one hand, that the entire club was still in its adjustment period. William looked a little difficult to get along with, but normally he did not manage affairs.

Most of the time, Kane handled matters. Kane was an easy man to speak to, and Mordok felt he could cooperate with Kane for a very long time.

Secondly, he had left the university with his own team. If he fell out with William and the others now, then he and those assistant coaches of his would have nowhere to go in the short term.
