Chapter 117: Seats Bought Before the Game

“You’ve all received the product catalog, right?” William glanced at Richard, who nodded.

The detailed catalog had been handed to them on Sunday and distributed to everyone, including the salesmen hired later. Each of them had received a detailed sales catalog.

It contained most of the goods that would appear at the state consignment auction. Of course, there were also items not listed in the catalog. Those items were kept off the list not only to create surprises, but also to prevent people from having time to prepare.

For example, a house would appear, the very house William was currently living in. The person he had arranged would take that house down. Of course, all of it would be fake. In the end, the buyer would be unable to pay, causing the lot to be passed in, and the consignor would express dissatisfaction and refuse to list it again.

The gimmick would be enough. A luxury villa opening at one dollar was enough to make this consignment auction the focus of society once again. People would not actually care how much it eventually sold for. Instead, their little thoughts would start turning, wondering whether they might have a chance to pick up a bargain.

That was what William needed people to think about, not all those irrelevant things.

After Richard nodded, William naturally found a chair and sat down. He also told the others to sit. This was inside the gymnasium, and tiered seats were everywhere.

They sat in the seats, notebooks in hand, pens ready, looking at William like students, their eyes full of hunger for knowledge and wealth.

William thought for a moment, organized his thoughts, and then began teaching these “students” a few useful little techniques.

He also mentioned in passing that whoever had the best handwriting should record everything in more detail, because these materials might later become training texts for every new class of “trainees.”

In the end, it was decided that Wood would do it, because everyone said his handwriting was the best.

After assigning that small matter, William raised a question directly. “Under what circumstances do you get angry?”

The sudden question left the young men present stunned for a moment, but soon they began forming their own ideas. Richard was the first to raise his hand. This was also why William valued him so much.

He could not only complete the “homework” William assigned, but also stir up an active atmosphere. Every place needed someone like that. Even if he had not appeared beside William, he would have found his chance to rise one day. Some things were destined.

William pointed at him. Richard said, somewhat smugly, “When someone humiliates me, I’ll definitely get angry.” After saying it, he even interacted proudly with the young fellows behind him.

William nodded, then looked at the others with an encouraging gaze. He hoped more people would stand up and answer the question. Perhaps some might find it embarrassing, but that was precisely what they needed most to overcome.

If a man gave up making money because of conscience, morality, values, or notions of good and evil, then he had no fate with this business.

Wood raised his hand with a thoughtful expression. “When someone touches my bottom line, I get angry.”

William’s eyes brightened. He pointed at Wood and also glanced at Richard, though his gaze quickly spread to the others. “Richard’s answer isn’t entirely right. Do you think you would get angry if I humiliated you?”

His tone was calm. There was even a faint smile on his face, and his eyes did not look particularly fierce. Yet those words made Richard feel extremely uncomfortable. A sudden panic, from nowhere he could identify, drilled into his heart.

He shifted uneasily in his seat, changed posture several times, then shook his head. “No, Mr. Carter.”

William nodded and looked at the others. “Why wouldn’t Richard get angry even if I humiliated him?” It was a rather complicated question. As a mentor in life, William had to clear up these children’s confusion.

So he did not wait for anyone else to answer. He continued, “Because I have not touched your bottom line. In your mind, there is an accurate method of measuring the difference in standing between us. Even if I humiliate you, as long as it remains within the range you can bear, it will be very hard for you to become angry.”

“To you, that is an acceptable injury. Only when I touch your bottom line, only when I stab your heart, even your soul, bloody and raw, will you become angry, furious, and lose your reason.”

“I previously talked with you all about how to create small conflicts. What I’m going to discuss now is how to make customers lose their reason. This is introductory knowledge, but it is also a very important lesson.”

“You must lightly sting the customer’s heart, temporarily disable his reason, and at the same time increase the sense of competition. Make him believe he has been humiliated by other bidders, thereby creating small miracles in price.”

“We all know impulse is a very frightening emotion. When you are impulsive, you will do many things you believe you would never do.”

“If you can accomplish that, then you can become superiority-complexed strivers under me.”
