Chapter 4

Early Friday morning, Alex meditated and exercised, grabbed my quarterstaff, established my Chi, and ran my route. My run around our subdivision was uneventful except for the twins swimming. Alex stretched out on the front lawn, showered, and went to the kitchen. Mom said she skipped yoga today, but was going to tennis and would be back by 10 a.m., and left. Alex ate breakfast, folded the clothes in the dryer, and hung up the shirts. Then I put a new load in the dryer, went upstairs, and changed into my swimsuit. Mom came home and yelled for me to get out of the pool. He showered, and Mom had already packed my bag. Alex put on some shorts and a T-shirt and went downstairs. Mom made us an early lunch because our flight was at 2:30 p.m. Alex dressed and put on a swimsuit, running gear, cash, and a laptop in his bag. Mom was good at packing things, but doesn’t know everything I need.

Andrew Givens had the paperwork ready, and Mom read and signed it. We settled with the school district for 125k, the counter lady, and the principal’s dismissal, and Mom got her concealed carry permit, and we left for the airport. Orange County Airport was easy to get through security and to our gate. We arrived early, but it was better than the two-plus hours required at LAX. CK booked us first-class tickets, and Mom enjoyed the complimentary cocktails. We landed at 9:30 p.m., and a town car took us to the hotel. Mom and I were surprised at the money CK spent on the trip and lodging. When we got to our suite, Mom ordered room service for dinner, took our showers, ate dinner, and then went to bed. Alex sat in the lotus, established Chi, and checked my surroundings. It was a different experience, and the view then went to bed.

At 4 a.m. Saturday, Alex meditated and exercised, affirmed my Chi, put on running gear, and went to the gym. After setting the controls, I ran on the treadmill for an hour, returned to the suite, showered and dressed, and ordered room service breakfast for two. Alex opened Mom’s door, spanked her ass, and left. She was cussing, but was up. She came out, saw breakfast, and forgot about my spank. We met the town car at 8 a.m. and were driven to a theater side entrance.

Alex was guided away, and Mom was directed to a viewing area. He was taught to walk, stop, turn, and hold my head, arms, and hands. After twenty walks down the runway, I was certified as suitable. Then there was playful interaction with female models to excite the crowd. We ended rehearsal at 5 p.m. and were due back at 7 p.m. We had time for a quick shower and dinner and were returned to the theater. They gave Mom a dress that almost showed everything, with matching shoes. She was seated in a special box reserved for VIPs. The show lasted two hours, and I was beaten when it was done. CK formally introduced Alex, and anonymity went out the window. They dressed me in a suit for him to meet Mom, and we were photographed and interviewed, then introduced, and at 11 p.m., we left and crashed.

Early Sunday morning, Alex meditated and exercised, put on my swimsuit under my running gear, and went to the gym. I ran for 30 minutes, swam for 30 minutes, returned to the suite for a shower, and ordered room service breakfast. Mom was up and came out to eat breakfast. Alex had the entertainment channel on, and they commented on the show. He said Is that a nipple showing and I got punched in laughter. We met the town car and were driven to the CK headquarters. Alex was taken away, and Mom was given a tour.

CK needed ad material for billboards, magazines, and online to follow up on the show. We finished at 3 p.m., rushed to the hotel, packed, and just made our flight home. Mom’s phone was burning up on the way home. Stephanie called and told Mom she was naked at the show. Mom said Thanks for the compliment and hung up. Then Dad called, and Mom answered, hung up, and turned her phone off, laughing. When we got home, we took our bags, locked up, set the alarm, and crashed.

At 4 a.m. Monday, Alex meditated and exercised, grabbed my quarterstaff, acquired my Chi, and ran the subdivision. My senses were on high today for some reason, and when I turned the first corner, a car started, and Alex knew what it meant. So, I picked up the pace and turned another corner, and the car was gaining on me, so I turned left, stopped, and stood to the side. The car came around the corner and ran into a brick wall. Alex got the license plate and continued my run, returning home. I stretched, and Mrs. Stewart stopped at our house. She got out and said I looked good on TV, and laughed. Then Mom came out, and they chatted, so I went upstairs, showered, put on my swimsuit, and ate breakfast.

A folder from the university was on the table, so he opened it. They wanted to market my program and wanted me to develop other programs to build or enhance Cognitive ability in people. Alex knew they would do this, and the test wasn’t that valuable, but other programs would sell like mad. He would not give the university over half the royalties on future programs. Alex called Andrew Givens and asked if he knew a good copyright or patent attorney.

He said I do, but don’t tell her I said so, and gave me his sister Kimberly Givens’ phone number. When Alex called her, he said her brother had given him her number. Then Alex told her his dilemma with the university and asked if she could meet with my mom and me. Kimberly asked if we could meet tomorrow at 9, and Alex agreed.

Alex was swimming laps when Mom got home, so she came out and asked if I had read the folder. Alex told her I had called Andrew, who referred me to his sister, Kimberly Givens, who specializes in copyright and patent law. We have an appointment at 9 a.m. tomorrow with her. She was very interested when I read her the letter. Mom asked me to come inside because we needed to talk. When I returned from my shower, Mom said Ali called, and they were swamped with your interview requests.

You don’t have to do any interviews, but she asked you to do some to take the heat off her. Alex asked Mom if she had a list, and she opened her email. We looked at the list, picked four, and called Ali. We decided to do two here and two in New York. Alex told Ali my schedule, and Mom said only Friday or Monday for New York. Then I asked Al to schedule a shoot for the weekend to make the trip worthwhile.

While eating lunch, Alex told Mom about the car this morning, and she called Andrew. He called back 20 minutes later and said the man died at the scene with no ID. The car’s owner was found dead in the trunk, so the police think it was a professional hit attempt. The police were stumped until I called and asked them to run the license plate number. They want to ask you questions about the incident. When do you want to meet?

Alex wondered if he had given them my name, and Andrew said no, that they were just clients of mine. Alex said he knows nothing except that a car chased me and I escaped. Given what you told us, I’m not sitting for a formal interview. Call a Judge at the court and ask for help. Andrew said he would call us back and hung up. Mom asked what the problem was, and Alex told her it could be about the incident at the mall. Remember six men chasing a man through the mall; he dies, and they disappear. It could be anything, and I’m not letting them use me as bait to solve their case.

We were eating dinner when Andrew called us back and said Federal Judge Sandy Holcomb wants to meet with you tomorrow alone at 7 a.m. in her chambers. She said my presence could attract attention to you. He gave us the address and asked us to call him afterward. We agreed and hung up, and Mom said Let’s raid David’s closet to disguise your appearance tomorrow. Mom picked out an XXL hoodie sweatshirt with MSU on the front and a baseball cap.

Then we went to her room and got a pair of Dad’s sunglasses. Mom put the sweatshirt and dirty clothes in the washer and started the load. We watched TV, put the clothes in the dryer, and went to bed. Alex sat in the lotus position, empowered my Chi, and checked my energy stores. They were full, so I checked my surroundings and expanded my view. Alex blocked out the houses and focused on the streets and yards. Everything seemed normal, so I closed my eyes and went to bed.

Early Tuesday morning, Alex meditated and exercised, grabbed my quarterstaff and established Chi, then took off running. My senses distracted me, so I focused on my route, ignoring the houses and people inside. Alex completed his two laps, stretched, showered, dressed in disguise, and went to the kitchen. Mom drove me to the courthouse and dropped me off. After going through security, Alex found Judge Holcomb’s courtroom and knocked on the office/chamber door.

She said to enter and lock the door, so I did. When Alex sat down and pulled off the hood and sunglasses, she said Oh my god, my daughter would die if she knew you were here. Alex told her about the mall event and our problems with the police. Then, with the background completed, I told her about the car chasing me and what happened.

Judge Holcomb asked if this was the first time something like this had happened. Alex said to me, Yes, but my mom and I told her about mom’s attempted kidnapping. When Mr. Givens told my mom and me what the police said, Alex asked him to seek help. He didn’t want them to use me to close their cases or have his name written down in a report. No offense intended to law enforcement in general, but our local police are idiots wearing badges, and she laughed. She said, Judging by what you told me, the police already know who you are.

Getting an interview will confirm their suspicions. I’ll call Andrew and have him schedule the interview here, then issue a gag order. I’ll let them know that the witness is protected, and all they will get is an anonymous statement. Alex thanked her for her help and asked for her daughter’s name. She said Amy, and Alex told her he would sign something for her and forward it to you. Alex left a happy Judge, and that’s good. Then I called Mom.

She met at the back of the courthouse, and we stopped for breakfast before going to Kimberly Given’s office. We introduced ourselves, and then Alex handed her the folder. Kimberly looked at the letter and said, “I’ve wanted to challenge this practice by the university since college, but never had the opportunity.” She asked if I did the programming at home, and Alex told her it was an online class. Kimberly pulled out the patent paperwork, and they filled it out, and Mom signed.

Then she asked about the program, so Alex pulled out his laptop and had her try it. She scored seven, and I told her that was a good score. Kimberly said, “Don’t respond to the request; tell Mrs. Stewart you’re thinking about it and haven’t decided yet.” She asked for copies of my scholarship and computer programming class.

Then Kimberly explained what typically happens when you turn a project. First, it becomes the university’s property. The professor usually takes credit for whatever you turn in. Their problem here is that your work was done at home with no assistance from the university or professor. So, it’s considered intellectual theft, which we’ll claim. Then Kimberly asked how I turned it in for review, and Alex told her on my laptop. When she found out I had the only copy, she smiled and told me to delete it from the school laptop. When they realize they screwed up, the university will request a copy of the program. Tell them, since no one asked for it, you filed for a patent, and it’s at your attorney’s office. Mom and I thanked her for the help and drove home.

The first thing Alex did was call Ali and ask for some promotional items. She gladly offered to ship me some next-day delivery, then asked if I could do Jimmy Kimmel tomorrow night. It was a last-minute cancellation, and they wanted to get you before their break. Alex looked at Mom and said ok, so I agreed. Next was a shoot in the Hamptons on a sailboat next weekend. We could fly in on Friday and do the Today Show and Colbert on Monday. Again, I looked at Mom and agreed. The last was our week shoot before the summer session started, and it was in Jamaica, and Mom was dancing in her seat, nodding her head. Alex told Ali that Mom reluctantly agreed, and Mom punched me.

Ali laughed and said Your mom told me she always wanted to go there last week. Now, wear business casual with an open collar and three buttons undone for tonight. For shoes, wear loafers and no socks. If you have a medallion or necklace, wear it if it’s not too big. Watch the guests ahead of you and see what they do. Ali said she booked a hotel room if you’re too tired to drive home. Ali said all the information was in my email and wished me good luck, and she hung up.

We ate lunch and then had to go shoe shopping. Mom knew of a shoe shop in the older section of town. Alex got two pairs of loafers, one black and the other dark brown. The leather was soft, and the loafers felt like I was walking on pillows. Across the street from the shoe store, Mom saw a jewelry store. It was founded in 1906, according to the old sign on the building, and Mom said Let’s check it out. A bell rang when we entered, and an old man came out from the back with strange glasses on.

Mom said we needed a medallion for me, and the old man looked hard at me. Then he said Follow me, young man and we went into the back behind a curtain. He pointed to a chair and said Sit, Then he went further in the back, and Alex could hear him rummaging around. When he returned, he put a medallion on me, stood back, and nodded his approval. We went back out front, and Mom said it was perfect. She paid the old man, and we thanked him for helping us.
