Date With Dad

Chapter 2
The street lights had come on earlier than normal in town, due to the chilly overcast sky.
The busy traffic also added to the Saturday evening atmosphere as Dan waited anxiously outside the Crown Inn for his date to show up.
He had only been waiting ten minutes and already he was nervous.
It had been ironic that he’d found himself willing Margot to concoct her next illicit night out and yet when it came, he’d almost felt guilty!
It had been a phone call from her mother who sorely needed her help over the coming weekend!
It not only put Margot into a whirl, it put Dan and Elaine into a flat spin also!
Suddenly they were having to plan their shenanigans in detail! How were they going to stage their meeting up in town; on a first date?
Saturday morning, Margot had left for the station at 9am and wouldn’t be home before Sunday evening!
Dan left home for town around four in the afternoon and spent an hour in a betting shop before spending another hour in departmental store cafeteria.
Then he’d made his way here; outside the Crown Inn.
And he was full of anxiety.
Would she remember where to find him?
What if a bloke tried picking her up on the way!
God; they must have been crazy doing this!
But then he saw the bus pulling up at the stop a few yards away - was she on it? Passengers were getting off! Where was she!
Then he realised!
She was already walking towards him in her high heels; She was wearing her mothers raincoat and headscarf!
Dan was transfixed. She came right up to him softly smiling,
“Hello, I’m Elaine; have you waited long?”
“Elaine!I didn’t realise it was you at first, but you look fabulous!”
“Thank you kindly!” she smiled.
