Chapter 13

Trey did his forms and martial arts workout in the dojo early Monday morning. Then he showered, dressed, went to the stables, and saddled Blackie. They took off for their ride and took the long trail so he could think. Jack and Mom would be leaving soon, and it would be a major change in his life. He’d miss Mom, but Grandmother replaced her when she married and moved in with Jack. He would miss Jack more because he gave him good advice and support. Trey thought he needed his pilot’s license to avoid the hassle of flying commercially to visit them in D.C.

They returned to the stables, and Trey cared for Blackie. Then he went to the kitchen and ate breakfast with Maria. She told Trey his Grandmother called last night and said a news conference was scheduled for today at 1 p.m. EST at the hospital. They got referrals from the hospital for rehab and extended care, so hopefully they can come home this evening. Trey said, “Great,” and asked Thor and Bella if they had heard Grandmother coming home soon. They barked, and Trey and Maria laughed.

Trey called Jack on “The Silencer” app and told him about the news conference at noon. He also told Jack that his wife may be home this evening, so kick out the young women and clean the condo. Jack laughed, thanked him for the warning, and said he would see him at work. Then Trey did his homework for the new online college courses. When he finished, Trey checked his emails. One from UND said his testing time for the four exams was Thursday at 8:30 a.m.

He headed to the kitchen, and Maria set lunch in the den. They ate while watching the news conference at the hospital in Washington, D.C. The hospital spokesperson said his family has approved this statement on Senator Robert Whitehurst’s condition. There will be no questions asked or answered. The spokesperson went on to say Senator Whitehurst suffered a stroke affecting his motor skills and cognitive ability. The damage to his motor skills can be helped through rehab. But the stroke caused irreversible brain damage, so he’s unable to resume his duty as a senator. That ended the news conference, and he walked away to reporters shouting questions.

Trey said that was brief and to the point, then headed to work. When he arrived, Cheryl called him to the clinic. She instructed Trey to go into the treatment room and pull down his pants. He said, “Wow, you’re anxious today. Did you miss me?” Cheryl laughed and said, “Get moving, Buster.” He pulled down his pants and then lay on the treatment table. Cheryl gave Trey the shot, and he felt dizzy before passing out. She told him he would be sore for a while when he woke up, then told him to get to work.

Cheryl did lie, and his whole body hurt worse than after the previous shots. He walked slowly to the IT department, sat down, and did busy work on the computer. Even his fingers ached, so Trey was glad he didn’t have to do any programming. By the end of the day, he felt better and went to Jack’s office. He entered and told Jack he wanted to file a grievance against Cheryl. Jack laughed and said we had to increase the dosage because of your weight and height gains. We didn’t realize no adjustments had been made for six months.

Then Jack asked Trey if he had seen the news conference, and he said yes. It was brief and to the point. Jack mentioned Kathern met with the Senate party leader at the hospital, and they prepared the statement. Robert’s resignation from the Senate was submitted and accepted. So, the countdown has begun, and the governor will make his announcement a week from today. Then Jack asked how he would like to take a golf trip this weekend before the storm hits, and Trey agreed. He wondered where they would go, and Jack said, “Las Vegas.”

Jack said he’d run it by Kay and plan on leaving Friday and returning Sunday afternoon. They shook hands goodbye, and Trey headed home. Dinner was ready when he arrived, so they sat and ate. Maria said Kathern had called and they would be home before 9 p.m. She wanted to speak with you before you went to bed, and Trey said, “Alright, he’ll sacrifice his beauty sleep,” and they laughed.

Grandmother arrived at 8:30, and Maria went to bed. She said this trip made me realize Kay can’t handle her emotions and can’t make rational decisions. So tomorrow morning, we’re going to my attorney’s office to change my will and trust. Trey looked worried, and Grandmother said, “There’s nothing to worry about.” What happened to Robert made me realize it’s best to prepare for the worst. So, you will have an input if something happens to me.

Trey said, “You better not leave me with Mom,” and they laughed. Grandmother said there was nothing wrong with me, so don’t worry. But your mother can’t handle things alone, and the trust must stay in the family. I have nothing against Jack, and love him like a son, but he can’t make decisions for the Hunt Trust. Trey agreed but asked Mom not to find out, or she’ll throw a fit. They laughed, said goodnight, and went to bed.

Early Tuesday morning, Trey did his forms and weight-lifting routine in the gym. Then, he showered, dressed, and practiced on the flight simulator. The X-Plane simulator was challenging, but he needed real flight training soon. Trey shut off the computer when he sensed movement in the kitchen and headed downstairs. Maria and Grandmother had breakfast ready, so they sat and ate.

After breakfast, Grandmother and Trey went to her attorney’s office. Jeff Sanderson, Grandmother’s attorney, welcomed them, and they went to his office. Changing her Will and the Hunt Trust took over an hour. Trey read Jeff Sanderson’s mind during the process and tagged his phone. He found no issues, but the tag would give him additional information. On the way home, Grandmother told Trey the trust board meets every six months. It’s held via video conferencing, and I would be grateful if you could attend with me to observe and get familiar with the process. Trey agreed.

When they arrived home, Mom was there, and Maria had lunch ready. While they ate, Mom asked where they had gone that morning. Trey said it was an educational trip. Grandmother thought I should know about the different types of lingerie women wear. So, we visited a store, and Grandmother modeled the various styles, and I chose which ones I liked. Mom was shocked, and everyone else laughed. Then Mom realized she’d been had and threatened me with a fork.

FBI Deputy Director Adam Spitzer was called into a meeting at Director Michael Goodson’s office. When he arrived, two men who looked like lawyers were present. Michael told Adam that two agents and a surveillance van were missing. He asked Adam if he knew anything about it since he authorized the agents’ van use. Adam knew he was screwed and told the director everything that happened. Michael asked Adam if he had activated the trackers on the van when it was checked out.

Adam said he didn’t know there were trackers. Michael said, “Well, we did. Can you explain why the van is on a cargo ship to Venezuela?” Adam said shit, and Michael said that’s what he’s in. Michael said there’s one more thing. Did you know that Trey Bowman is the grandson of US Senator Robert Whitehurst? Adam said holy shit, no. Michael told Adam he was fired and that there would be a thorough investigation. So, get a good lawyer. Adam turned in his ID and weapon and was escorted out of the building.

After lunch, Trey went to his ranch and started the vehicles and the plane. He let them idle for thirty minutes, shut them off, and returned home. He turned on his computer, had an idea, and began programming. Trey’s idea was tracking bots embedded in his firewall. When an intruder attempts to access his computer, the bots track the intruder’s computer and embed themselves into the hard drive. They would immediately copy the hard drive to an anonymous cloud account and open a backdoor to the computer.

He was in a zone, and his fingers flew across the keyboard, programming the tracker bot program. Trey thought of a name, and he would call it “The Predator.” He had just finished it when Grandmother called him to dinner. Trey saved his work and went to the kitchen. Mom was still there, and they sat and ate. During dinner, Trey asked Mom if Jack had kicked her out already. Everyone laughed, and Mom said Jack was working late preparing for the nomination.

Trey said, “Well, Thor and Bella are glad to have their snuggle buddy back, right, guys?” They barked, causing laughter. They finished, went to the den, and watched the local news. There was rampant speculation about who Governor Bell would name to replace US Senator Whitehurst. They listed six people, none of whom was Jack. After the program ended, Trey said goodnight and went to bed.

On Wednesday morning, Trey did his form and martial arts workout at the dojo. Then he showered, dressed, went to the stables, and saddled Blackie. They took off on their ride and returned to the stables. He cared for Blackie and went to the kitchen. Grandmother, Mom, and Maria were eating breakfast, so he fixed a plate and joined them. While they ate, Mom asked Trey if he would attend the news conference announcing Jack’s appointment to the Senate. Trey said no for several reasons. First, he didn’t want to be near the perverts, and everyone laughed.

Then he said the second reason was that he didn’t want to take the attention away from Jack. But he would attend Jack’s swearing-in to the Senate in Washington, D.C. Grandmother told Kay that Trey was right. The news conference should be about Jack. Trey told Mom she should also avoid hugging and kissing the perverts, and left Grandmother, Mom, and Maria laughing.

He returned upstairs and checked his program, “The Predator,” for errors. Then, he added it to his firewall program on his computer and laptop. Trey copied the revised firewall program to a USB stick to take to work. Bowman Pharmaceuticals would need the extra protection as Jack will leave for DC soon. When he finished, Trey saved his work, turned off the computer, and went to the kitchen for lunch.

Kenneth Loe, CEO of the Knight Group, was having a bad day. First, FBI agents raided his house early this morning, seized his phone and laptop, and searched his home office. Simultaneously, FBI agents entered the Knight Group’s offices, seized Kenneth Loe’s computer, and searched his and the administration offices. He knew it had to do with the disappearance of the two FBI agents and the surveillance van. Kenneth wondered what happened to FBI Deputy Director Adam Spitzer, but was afraid to call him.

After lunch, Trey went to work and installed the updated firewall on the mainframe computer. Then, he helped perform maintenance tasks on the workstations for the rest of the day. Some of the work was in the sales area, and the cologne he wore helped keep the women away. When leaving, Trey stopped by Jack’s office, but Jack was in a meeting. So, he headed home, and when he arrived, dinner was ready.

Thor and Bella greeted him, and Trey gave them attention and treats. During dinner, Trey told them he was testing at the university tomorrow and would miss lunch. Mom reminded him they were leaving Friday at 5:30 a.m. for Las Vegas. Trey said he would be ready and asked if she was bringing her new bikini. Mom said NO, and everyone laughed.

When they finished dinner, they watched the news in the den. There was more conversation and speculation on who Governor Bell would appoint to replace Senator Whitehurst. They also reported that the FBI raided Kenneth Loe, CEO of the Knight Group home and office. The FBI refused to comment on the reason for the action. They had video of agents taking items from both places. At the end of the program, Trey said goodnight and went to bed.

Trey did his forms and weight-lifting routine in the gym early Thursday morning. Then he showered, dressed, and checked his email. There was one from Pam, UND Chancellor Gerald White’s secretary. She said the chancellor wanted to meet with him after he completed his testing on Thursday. He laughed, didn’t reply, and went to the kitchen. Mom and the dogs were there, and Trey asked where they were. Grandmother laughed and said Thor and Bella were snuggling with Kay.

Trey said he had to get a picture of them and went to Mom’s bedroom. Thor and Bella were lying on both sides of Mom in bed, and Trey took several photos of them with his phone. He sent Jack one of the photos during breakfast using the “The Silencer” app. The message said he caught Mom cheating on you. When she comes home, be sure to spank her ass good.

After breakfast, Trey went to the university and checked in at the administration building. Then he went to the testing area and started his exams. Trey was given a 15-minute break between tests and finished at 12:30. The professor said his test result would be emailed to him this evening. He stopped by the bookstore, got eight more course e-books, and charged them to his scholarship credit card.

On his way home, Richard, his agent at WME, called. He said you have a wardrobe fitting scheduled at Universal Studios next Friday. The movie’s working title is “Discovering Jaxson Dufort,” and it is currently in production. They are filming flashback scenes with younger actors, so they will update you on your part at the wardrobe fitting. Richard also mentioned that the movie “A Breach of Trust” has a new producer, and they are working to save the film. He asked Trey if he still wanted to be involved.

Trey said yes if it doesn’t conflict with the other movie and the contract terms are agreeable. Richard said he’d make some calls and let him know what’s happening, and they said goodbye. When he arrived home, Grandmother said, “Your Mom is pissed at you.” Trey asked why, and she said you sent a photo of her sleeping with the dogs to Jack. He wondered why that was so bad, and Grandmother laughed and said it was the message you wrote. Trey asked if it was the cheating part or the spanking part that got her upset, and everyone laughed.
