Chapter 26: The Magic War Pt. 13: Epilogue

The leaders have gathered with many of the palace staff and servants in the throne room. They all look at Osa as the leader of this war of liberation. Osa says, “There must be a leader to run the kingdom until a better way can be made. The leader can not be an outsider, so my brother, sister and myself are not what you want. But before I appoint the temporary leader there must also be a staff of people to advise and help maintain the nation. Old seer, you will be senior most advisor as “Chief of Staff”. John, you will be “General of the Army”. Vulkarias, you will be “Admiral of the Navy”. Becka, you will act as ambassador to neighbouring nations as “Minister of Foreign Affairs”. Amy, you will be the lesion to the people as “Minister of National Affairs”. Finally, I have decided in order to rule an oppressed people, one must have known what it is like to be oppressed, but also must have seen how a nation is lead, so I chose Noni to act as temporary ruler. It will be up to all of you to work together with the existing nobility and find a better way to make this nation work. Some way more fair to all its citizens, but still maintains peace and security.”

Amy asks, “But, Osa ... won’t you stay and help us? We need you here.”

Osa tells Amy and the other, “We won’t be far. We (indicating Adunbi and Ekina) are going to collect the southern pool, and take it to a sacred grove. From there, we will all be able to commune freely with each other.”

Osa looks to Noni, “So, lady Noni, what should out first order of business be?”

Noni walks across the room and sits on the princes empty throne. She wiggles a little as if to get comfortable, then raises her eyes to look at all her friends and advisors. After thinking a second, she opens her mouth to speak, “We must secure our borders from the Rindell’s enemies. John, free the captive soldiers and have them swear allegiance to the nation, deploy two thirds to our boarders and have the rest begin policing the towns and villages with orders to kill any Orangeman or Redman they see. Becka, Send word out to our neighbouring nations that the prince has been dethroned and is awaiting trial for his crimes. Amy, have your rangers assess the damages and prepare an estimate for a relief fund. Vulkarias, I’m going to need your sailors to police the capital. Seer. What is your name?”

The old seer steps from the back of the room, “I am called Maximilien.”

Noni says, “It is good to have you at my side Maximilien. The rest of you, staff and slaves, I need you to get organized and back to work. From this day on slaves will be free and will be paid a fair wage. Go! Prepare a celebration feast for me and my friends.”

The celebration is well under way, all the heroes are present. John, Becka, Amy, Adunbi, Quivina, Osa, Ekina, Vulkarias, and Maximilien all sit at a table at the base of the dais that the thrones are seated on. In the larger throne sits Noni, in the smaller throne next to her is Shara.

The castle staff sit in tables around the room facing the heroes. Each table has all sorts of food, meats and vegetables, wine and water, and much more placed upon it, all half eaten. Every body is drunk and revelling in the stories of battle. Bards play music off to the side, people are dangling in the open spaces. The heroes get up and join the dancing, John and Becka, Adunbi and Quivina, Vulkarias and Osa, Amy and Ekina, forming a square and others forming a circle around them. Every once in a while there is a call to switch to their right, John moves to Quivina, Adunbi moves to Osa, Vulkarias moves to Ekina, and Amy moves to Becka. A few more calls to switch and everybody is back with there starting partner by time the song ends.
