Chapter 36

I summoned my other casino bag, which was larger, from where I’d left it, and filled it with the cash, and the two new bags. It all barely fit. I figured they could wonder where the money went, I certainly wouldn’t worry about them.

I had just pulled the door open a tiny crack to look out, when I saw someone unexpected. Agent Jeffries was smirking at me, hand on his gun at his waist, leaning against the wall opposite.

My speed skill, hardly ever used, ripped the door open, and I spun behind it. With the door fully open, I paused time.

I looked around the door, and Jefferies smirk was gone, and a determined look was on his face, even though he was still leaning against the wall. I glanced to the right and left, and the hallway was filled with armed, and armored cops, all with rifles or shot guns. The ceilings were high enough that I could slowly float over them, and down the hallway. It turned a corner, but the door at the end was closed.

I went back the other direction, and went around the corner. That door was closed also. I was stuck. I had an hour, well 58 minutes now, thanks to the handy countdown timer in my vision. I couldn’t know which door to go thru, they were all shut. The cops were five deep on each side of the door, so I had 11 guys after me, plus whoever else might be out there.

Scribe was blinking at me to level up. I guessed he had a plan. Another 580,000 points from waiting out the hour wouldn’t make a difference, so I leveled up:

0/65,000,000 (103) Level

7,341,600/650,000,000 positive points

10,012,555 neutral points

0/650,000,000 negative points

28/29 Active Skills

26 Passive Skills

47605 Bonus Neutral Points

I was poor but I needed to be free. I followed Scribe to upgrade a skill, sure hope he knew what he was doing:

丢三落四 drops threes and leaves out fours (2/4)

- people around you forget you and what you say and do as soon as you are out of sight, cost 10000 points per hour, only erases what happens after activating

- also erases any recordings or records of your presence, stacks with above

“Thank you Scribe,” I shouted into the silent frozen world I inhabited.

I spent the 10,000 points from positive just to save my neutral, because I could make them go farther with the discount.

I triggered my navigation skill to give me a route with the fewest number of people, and no cops or people who would try to stop me on my way to my car. One where I could move at a normal walking pace, and not encounter any trouble.

It refused.

I tried again asking for a route that would avoid as much trouble as possible to a spot safe to either summon the truck, and drive away, or to a spot where it would be safe to fly away. It took me to a door that was off the hallway, but around the corner out of the view of the cops.

I dropped the time stop, and opened the door, stepping into a large empty conference room with a big oval table in the center, surrounded by comfy looking leather chairs. There was a door on the other side of the table, I hurried around it, my speed skill ramping up my movement.

My navigation skill gave me a countdown to open the door when it hit zero, I opened the door and went right, down a second hallway. Fifty feet down the corridor, navigation again had me pause for three seconds, then go thru another door. This one led outside. The noise of shouting people behind me was growing despite the distance increasing.

In my vision I could see a route painted across the ground, showing where to go. I ran. I boosted my speed and my strength, parked cars blurring as navigation showed me going up and over a fence. I jumped, and sailed over with ease.

The landing was almost bad, until I remembered my flight skill, and hit the ground softly. I stopped at the big X painted on the ground in my vision.

I set navigation for the nearest safe spot to land and summon the truck. It gave me a new route at 12x into the sky. I flew it.

I came down on a back road, surrounded by woods. I summoned the truck, but it didn’t come. That wasn’t good. Someone was inside it, or it was affixed. Either way my new truck might be gone. I stepped off into the woods, and when behind some trees and out of sight of the road, I started summoning my purchases from out of the truck.

Everything came easily.

I set navigation for the rental house, if it was safe to return there. Navigation failed.

I pulled out my phone and called Aida.

“Hello, Aida speaking, how can I help you?”

That sent alarm bells ringing. I hung up. I had no choice, I flew back to the RV.

7,600km in 22 minutes and a bit over 701 thousand neutral points. Expensive way to get to my cash.

My clothes shifted into island wear, nice khaki cargo shorts, a button up short sleeve Magnum PI shirt, and sandals.

I wanted a drink, but all I had that was cold was water. At least it was cool and refreshing.

I sat and looked at my stats to bemoan my loss, but it looked like a number of people who didn’t like me saw me on camera before I paused time and used the memory wipe skill. Mosquito was coming in at 25,000 a minute!
