Chapter 5: Sheer Luck

David frowned in disbelief.

“I’m really a resident here. I even have a key to the house!”

David exclaimed as he took out a key from his pocket. That was the key that was given to David by William. It had the crest of Dragon Bay in gold on it. Because of how exquisite the key looked, the security guard did not doubt its authenticity.

After taking a closer look at the key, the security guard sized David up once more.

“Hey, where did you get this key from? It’s a key to the mansion on top of the mountain in Dragon Bay. This mansion is the most expensive of all the properties here. Since it was purchased by Mr. Sullivan, how did this key end up in your hands?” David was shocked upon hearing that.

Wow!

The mansion William gave to me is the most expensive of them all?

What a gift!

“Indeed, Mr. Sullivan gave it to me,” David answered truthfully.

“Nonsense! Why would he give it to you? You must’ve either stolen it or found it on the ground somewhere, am I right?” the security guard shouted suspiciously.

He then waved for a few more of his fellow security guards.

“Keep your eyes on them! I need to make a phone call to clarify this.”

After giving out the order, the security guard left hurriedly with the key. After noticing the tense situation, Gary grabbed Hannah, and they both also got out of the car.

Furthermore, the taxi driver was also spooked. He took out their luggage and left the scene in a hurry.

“David, what’s going on?” Hannah asked worriedly since she couldn’t see what was happening.

“Don’t worry, Mom. Everything’s fine. It’s just a normal security check. They’re very strict here at Dragon Bay,” David consoled Hannah.

“Of course, they should be strict! This is the most luxurious neighborhood in

Horington. I can even smell the fragrance of flowers from here!” Hannah couldn’t contain her excitement.

However, Gary was fed up. We’re being held up by the security.

Obviously, something’s wrong here. I shouldn’t have trusted David!

Why would someone lend him a house in Dragon Bay?

Just then, a black Mercedes-Benz drove up slowly and stopped right next to them.

“Hey, isn’t that you, David? What are you doing here with your whole family along with your luggage? It can’t be that you’re moving in to stay at Dragon Bay, right?”

Warrick asked in a sarcastic tone as he was getting out of the car. After that, Sandy and Juliette came out of the car as well. The three of them then looked at the family of three mockingly. They were there to take a tour around Dragon Bay because Sandy wanted to show them the house Leyton had bought for her as a wedding gift.

However, since they bumped into David and his family, they decided to stick around and find out what was going on. After giving the trio a cold glare, David ignored them.

“What’s going on here?”

Sandy questioned one of the security guards.

Having noticed that Sandy came in a Mercedes-Benz and also, she was in designer clothes, he said politely, “Miss, these people said that they’re the residents of Dragon Bay. One of them even took out a key to a mansion. Our captain suspects that they must’ve somehow found the key somewhere or stolen it. Hence, we’re waiting for our captain to come back with a confirmation.”

Upon hearing that, Sandy, Warrick, and Juliette burst into laughter.

“Hahaha! David, you’re ridiculously funny! Just because you found a key and you dare to come here calling yourself a resident? What a fool!” Warrick mocked.

Juliette, while laughing uncontrollably, added, “Do you know how much it costs

to buy a mansion here? Do you really think you can afford it? I think even after sweeping the streets for a hundred years, your dad still can’t afford one!”

“Hurry up and get rid of these people! Especially that fellow, he’s an ex-convict. He has just gotten out of jail today. If you let him set foot in there, he’s going to ruin the reputation of Dragon Bay!”

Sandy told the security guards while pointing at David.

Upon hearing that, the security guards started panicking, and they all took out their batons. If the other residents were to find out that an ex-convict was present in the vicinity, the security guards would be in big trouble.

“David, why don’t you just get lost? Please bring along your blind mother and your

sanitation worker father. Do you really want to wait until the security guards put their hands on them?”

Warrick continued mocking.

“What did you just say?”

David clenched his fists angrily.

“What? Are you going to hit me?” Warrick teased.

He then laughed hysterically and walked toward David.

“I suppose you might’ve learned a move or two in jail, but do you know where you’re at? Trust me; I will send you back in there if you dare to lay a finger on me.”

He then put on an arrogant face and shoved David. Seemingly frightened, Hannah softly gave David’s elbow a nudge and pleaded, “David, let’s just leave.”

Hannah was afraid that David might get himself in trouble again. Since David had a criminal record, the authority might not be lenient toward him if a commotion were to break out. She definitely wouldn’t be able to handle it if David were to be sent back to jail. At the same time, Gary was also getting increasingly worried.

He stared at David and said, “Get our things now. We should leave. This is so

humiliating.”

Gary then started to pick up their luggage as he was determined to leave immediately. He could no longer bear the humiliation.

“Hahaha. Yes, get lost! If I ever see you again, I’ll take my revenge and beat

you up!” Warrick pointed at David.

“All right, let’s get back into the car. It’s embarrassing to be seen talking to these people!” Sandy yelled at Warrick.

After they had all gotten back into the car, they drove straight into Dragon Bay.

“Mom, wait! I’m telling the truth! My friend really lent this mansion to me!”

David reassured Hannah.

“Wait? What are we waiting for? Do you really want us to be dragged out of here?” Gary was fuming.

Just when David was about to retaliate, he saw how old and weak his father had grown. Because of that, he swallowed his pride and kept his mouth shut. At that moment, the security guard that took the key had returned.

When he saw David, he said to him apologetically, “Mr. Chance, I’m so sorry. We’ve made a mistake. We’re a bunch of fools! We’ll send you up this instance!”

After he said that, he turned and ordered the rest of the security guards, “Keep all your batons! Go get the car now, and send Mr. Chance and his family in!”

“Roger that!”

The security guards nodded frantically. Then they brought a car and escorted David and his parents into Dragon Bay.

While in the car, Gary’s expression had changed. He had no idea what to say to David because he was skeptical of him the whole time.

“Oh my god, David! How generous of your friend to lend you a mansion!”

Hannah was extremely excited to be in Dragon Bay and to be able to smell the fragrance of the flowers.

“Don’t worry, Mom. If there’s an opportunity, I’ll definitely bring you to meet this friend of mine!”

David knew that Hannah was dying to know who his generous friend was.

So, he planned to let Josephine meet his parents in the near future. Sandy and the others had arrived at a mansion halfway up the mountain. Sandy stopped the car, and they got out.

“Sandy, I’m so envious of you! This mansion is magnificent! I’d trade ten years of my life just to have a mansion like this!”

Juliette exclaimed when she saw Sandy’s mansion.

“This is nothing! The prices for mansions here at Dragon Bay depend on how high it is located at the mountain. Do you see the one at the top of the mountain? That’s the most expensive one. I wonder who bought it!”

Sandy pointed at the mansion on the mountain top.

Right at that moment, a car was slowly driving past them. One of its windows rolled down, and they saw that it was David. He was smiling mischievously while staring at the three of them.

“David? Isn’t that David in the car?”

Warrick was the first person to notice that. By then, Sandy and Juliette had also seen him. Sandy was furious when she saw the expression on David’s face.

“How did that brat enter? Those security guards are useless!”

“Could it be that he’s really a resident here? It was a security guard that was driving them in!”

Juliette furrowed her brows in confusion.

“And they are driving up the mountain! Could it be their mansion is located at a higher point than yours, Sandy?”

Warrick’s eyes were glued onto the car as he saw it travel further up toward the mountain top.

“That’s impossible! David could never afford it. I know how his family is doing financially.”

Sandy refused to believe what was happening before her eyes because she knew David’s financial situation best.

“Could it be that the mansion was given to him by the Sullivan family? I’ve heard it from Mr. Sullivan that David had saved his life before!” Juliette speculated further.

“That could be it!” Warrick nodded.

“What sheer luck he’s having! If he didn’t just so happen to have saved Mr. Sullivan’s life, he would’ve died in Glamor Hotel earlier!”
