Chapter 15

It was nearly midnight, when we broke away from my family and friends and finally arrived at my place. Sorry, OUR place.

I was Ray’s wife!

We had decided to postpone our honeymoon. Ray’s employer didn’t grant him any time off for our wedding.

We walked arm in arm to the front door. Ray reached into his pocket to gather his key and unlock the door. Before I could say anything to him, he picked me up to carry me through the doorway as tradition expected and kicked the door closed with his foot.

“Which is our room now?” he asked.

“Mine,” I said. “I have a double bed and complete bathroom. I cleaned out half of the closet and two drawers for you, too.”

Ray blinked in surprise. “You cleaned the space out for me?”

“Yep, unless you want to stay in the guest room.”

“No, thank you.”

Unable to take it any longer, I blurted out the first thing that came to my head. “You know, I heard only eighty percent of Americans actually have sex on their wedding night.”

Ray lifted his face. I could see his mind spinning, and it suddenly dawned on me how suggestive my comment sounded.

“What are you trying to say?” he asked, his voice cautious.

“I ... I’m not trying to say anything,” I answered, defensive. “I mean, I said what I wanted to say. I just thought it was weird so many people didn’t—”

Damn, I was only burying myself deeper.

“I think it’s weird, too,” he returned quietly.

I nearly sighed in relief. Licking my lips, I darted a glance toward the doorway.

“So ... do you want to—” he asked.

“Hell yeah,” I cut in.

Ray reached for me and picked me up. I squirmed in his arms. “I don’t need you to carry me, Ray.” I kicked my feet, but it didn’t do any good. His hold on me was a steel band across my body. “I can walk by myself.”

“I love carrying you in my arms. I feel a bit like a caveman, and you are my girl.”

“Ugh, ugh,” I growled, and then laughed.

I had to close my eyes against the nausea. When I opened them again, we were inside my room. He didn’t let me go but pushed me to straddle him.

“Thank God, thank God,” I thought. “Something finally feels right.”

Every single insecurity inside me melted away in Ray’s arms.

I stripped my brand-new husband of his tie and shirt, and he did the same with my dress.

Ray paused when he realized I hadn’t been wearing underwear. He glanced up and treated me to a questioning look.

I smiled, hoping he’d appreciate his wedding gift.

On a wink, I explained, “And you say only single people go commando.”

He chuckled. Then he pressed his mouth to mine, and his kiss tasted like laughter, sunlight, and heaven.

He took his time, kissing my cheek, and my jaw, working his way up to my ear and down my neck. I slid my fingers into the hair at the nape of his neck. His lips met mine, soft at first, then more demanding. I opened for him, and his tongue slid along mine, stroking, imitating the mating I was starting to crave as long-dormant parts of me heated and came to life again. Geez, I was already hot and wet and aching for more.

I groaned and clutched his hair. After backing me onto the bed, Ray set a hand on my knee, moved my thighs apart, and knelt between my open legs. As he touched me with his tongue, I gasped and arched. “Oh, Gosh, Ray.”

Wanting to reciprocate, I said, “Wait a second.”
