Chapter 3: Oh Deer, Shadows in the Night
Horror Sex Story: Chapter 3: Oh Deer, Shadows in the Night - This is an inspiration from watching a live performance of The Old Gods of Appalachia recently, trying to capture the haunting spirit of the tales - but with an erotic twist. Throw in a little bit of Douglas Adams, but with the usual hackish writing style of myself and you have what I hope to turn into an epic story

She awoke in the middle of the night with a start, eyes darting around the room.
The girl whom she had met the day before was still in her arms, sleeping soundly. That made her comfortable. That made her feel safe.
Gently, she moved from the bed, trying not to wake her newfound lover.
Lover? Was that the correct term? After all, she had only met her yesterday. Yet, there was a connection. Right? Surely the other girl felt like she had. Right?
She let out a small sigh of frustration. Life was so complicated sometimes. Loneliness tended to take a toll on one’s mind ... There. She had heard it again. The snap of a twig nearby. The thing that had ripped her from her comfortable sleep. It was an innocent sound, the snap of a twig, but in the almost completely deserted town of Ludlear, it could present danger.
But danger from what? Sure, she had heard of the dangers for many years. But in her time in Ludlear, had she really encountered any danger? Had her life ever been in danger? It seemed safe.
But sometimes safety was an illusion.
She tiptoed through the darkness, battling its unfamiliar landscape. Shadows seemed everywhere.
Shadows had been one of those dangers people had talked about when it came to Ludlear.
A full moon was out that night, shining brightly through the window and shining its light on the white, shaggy carpet. It felt good between her toes. That made her feel a little bit safe.
Still, she stayed clear of the shadows in the house as she slowly crept towards the window.
She had no plan. She had no grand scheme if she saw anything out there. But, still, she just had to see, just to make sure.
Standing back from the window, as if being too close to it would pose a danger, she looked out into the yard, where shadows from the moon and the darkness filled the landscape. Where the moon shone, everything was clear, in a grey-matted type of way. In the shadows, it was a mystery.
Sweat dripped from her body. Was it fear? Was it the pressure? Was it the heat of the night? She was not entirely sure.
Still, terrified of something which she was not sure of, her eyes went over the landscape, over the backyard and the backyards beyond. Some had been abandoned for so long and were so overgrown with thickets that the shadows completely overtook them.
Her eyes stopped at one yard, several houses away. One of the shadows seemed to possess a dull, red light.
No. That could not be. Except for the diner, hers was the only inhabited house for several blocks. The Hippsides lived in the opposite direction. The closest inhabited house that she knew of was by the old high school, nearly a mile away. None of these houses had been lived in for years, as far as she knew.
She swore she saw the dull red light blink off, then back on again. She squinted, trying to see better.
Fuck, she was hot. Sweat was freely dripping down her body now. She glanced down. She still wore yesterday’s clothes. Not nightwear, and not very comfortable right now.
