Chapter 11: Searching for Evil

January 4

The group flies down and continues exploring. They come to where they last turned back. They examine the room from the outside. Ra complains that there’s no place to hide here, so Kieron creates darkness behind which Ra can hide. Neeia casts a spell and smooths the wall. Ra sneaks across the room. Jaysek and Kieron follow his movement and notice that he walks right past some possible enemies when passing the statue as Kieron and Jaysek both observe that there’s something strange near the statues, presumably some enemies.

Jaysek signals Ra, who has reached the door, about it so Ra goes back to investigate. He detects something and then signals something to Jaysek. Jaysek notes that there’s something wrong with his head, so Neeia could read his thoughts. Neeia does as told and tells that Ra has seen a couple of strange creatures behind the statue. Neeia describes the creatures, and Jaysek remembers having heard about such creatures somewhere and shares his knowledge. After this, Neeia and Jaysek shoot a couple of explosive balls there, one fire and one acid. After this, Neeia decides to go fix the wall and starts heading in that direction. At the same time, two undead dogs come toward them. When they reach Neeia, she runs past the dogs on her way to repair the wall.

The dogs attack Kieron and knock her down. At the same time, a lot of stones hit the doorway from those crossbows in the statues’ hands. Quite many of the stones are hitting Jaysek, who manages to dodge them. Kieron is on the ground, so she is protected behind the dogs, and no stones hit her, but the dog in front of her gets hit by so many stones that it is destroyed. The other dog dodges really well the dozen stones coming toward it.

Two other dogs start running from behind the other statue. Three large blades have also appeared in the room, slicing across the room. One blade hits one dog so well that the dog falls and can’t attack Jaysek. Kieron jumps up while the other dog continues attacking. Kieron draws her weapon, but the dog continues to hit, and Kieron is already staggering.

The other dog is attacking Jaysek. Jaysek ignores it and shoots the dog attacking Kieron with a fire bolt. In the room, Ra has taken out his adamantine sword and puts it between the blades so that the blades stop. Surprisingly, Ra also manages to hold onto his sword. Neeia has begun to repair the wall with her magic.

Jaysek has seen that on top of the statues are ghouls who are loading those crossbows. The ghouls get the crossbows loaded and shoot; Jaysek dodges everything while staying in place; Kieron, in turn, throws herself a couple of yards back acrobatically with a flip to the ground and manages to dodge all the stones.

Jaysek comments to Kieron, “Let’s stay in place,” whereupon Kieron jumps acrobatically back up with a forward flip, ending up in the same place as she was before throwing herself to the ground. Ra has killed one ghoul and goes after the other loading ghoul. Ra hits the ghoul, so it stops loading and jumps down to attack Ra. Kieron is running at high speed to the battle, though the speed is quite slow, seeming to be in slow motion for a bit, but then speeds up to normal.

Ra continues fighting with the ghoul for long enough that Kieron also joins the battle. Jaysek also joins the fight by shooting one of those blades away so that it shatters into pieces, and fragments fly around. One hits the ghoul; two are coming toward Ra, but he dodges. One really big and two smaller fragments. Kieron throws herself acrobatically to the ground and dodges all the fragments. Kieron jumps up and strikes the ghoul once and manages to cut the ghoul to pieces.

After this, Jaysek flies up to disable the trap, though the magic wind causes some problems. Meanwhile, Neeia finally gets the wall repaired. Ra says, “Search those ghouls for items,” so Kieron picks up the bucket dropped by the other ghoul from the ground. Ra wonders, “Why were you, Neeia, repairing that wall?” to which Neeia replies that she thought it was a good idea.
