Foreword

The Damsels In Distress Universe an open world series that holds some of my favourite stories that I’ve found on SoL. I would suggest you read some of the originals by Lazlo Zalezac, and others by aroslav or Ernest Bywater.

There are many rules for the three worlds of Earth, Cassandra, and Chaos and how the characters move between them and the fourth ‘space’ of Crossroads. These rules are perfectly described in “Damsels In Distress Universe Rules” and I have attempted to abide by them all when writing this story.

Given the series of rules and restrictions, my initial thought was not to write one of my own, but to simply admire the creativity of others who had managed to tell a good story within all those constraints.

Ideas take time to percolate though and eventually my thoughts turned to writing a story set much earlier in the Damsels In Distress Universe, early enough for Earth to still strongly resemble Chaos, and before the Heroes (or even the Caretakers) really understood all the rules of Crossroads.

Like many of my stories, I try to imagine what people would really do when faced with a fantastic or fantasy reality, and how they would use that magic to their own ends.
