Chapter 5: Away from the Church
February 9
In the room are three trainees, one of whom shoots at Kieron with his crossbow, which Kieron dodges. The other two draw their weapons and come forward. Agnarr steps forward and says, “Grab your things and let’s go.” Two swordsmen attack Agnarr; he blocks one strike, and the other strike kills the pillow on the adjacent bed. Kieron begins to take her belongings, but Neiia suggests to the trainees that we don’t want to fight, just let us take our things and leave, and everyone will be happier. One guy makes a counter-offer that a silver coin per person and they didn’t see anything. Neiia agrees immediately, and the group takes their belongings and heads down to the tunnel. Just as they are going through the door, Ertak, who is coming last, hears that a large group is coming after them from upstairs. Agnarr locks the door shut with a magic sealing nail. After that, the group continues to the secret door and retrieves the money from there.
The group gets through the secret passage to the tavern and out without problems. When they step onto the street, a man dressed in furs and three other muscular men approach them.
The fur-dressed man introduces himself as Elder Agerai, and he is a servant of justice and acts as a mediator between Agnarr and the king’s men. According to custom, Agnarr’s options are either to surrender and go with the men to the king’s court and face his justice, or to prove he is right through combat.
Agnarr says that he will agree to combat and asks Kieron and Neiia to join him. The battle is one against one, one fight at a time, and no magic or magical items can be used in the battle, not even magic armor or swords. The battle ends if either one steps out of the ring or is on the ground for more than three seconds. The battle continues one against one until one side has completely lost.
Agnarr agrees that the battle will take place at dawn the next morning in the inn’s yard. Next, the group goes to the inn and doesn’t see Reginar anywhere. They go to knock on his door, but there’s no answer. When they are then going to their own room, Reginar arrives from downstairs and wonders why they didn’t come to sit at his table. Reginar says that some elf has been looking for us; the elf apparently has some offer that hopefully we can refuse.
The group goes downstairs and notices that there is the reluctant seller who is selling wizards’ items.
Next, Agnarr goes to get himself leather armor. The bartender knows a guy who could get the armor fitted for Agnarr. They go to him, and the bartender knocks on the door and steps aside, warning that the contents of a chamber pot might come out first. This does happen, but the contents come from the upstairs window and directly onto the bartender.
The man agrees to make leather armor because Agnarr didn’t have money for that dragon leather armor.

In the morning, the group gathers at the duel site. Kieron flies out early on when the enemy pushes with his shield. Neiia wins her own long battle when she manages to make the first wound on her enemy. Agnarr’s opponent is really strong and strikes large dents in the ground with his axe. Agnarr dodges and strikes with his own axe first at the enemy’s head, but notices that it’s really hard, so he moves to hammering the mid-body and manages to hack large wounds there until the enemy decides to step out of the ring. Next, Neiia goes against Kieron’s first opponent. Neiia manages to dodge for a while and strikes the enemy in the leg, but finally, the enemy hits with his shield, and Neiia flies far out of the ring. Neiia’s strikes don’t seem to cause any injury to the enemy.
Last remaining are the enemy leader and Agnarr. Agnarr enters the battle and manages to hit the enemy a few times, and the boss has to go a bit backward, and then Agnarr hits really well and even gets a couple of drops of blood out this time, and after that, the boss steps backward out of the ring.
