I ported onto my ship and saw that it had changed. One was a recently added secondary helm area aft. I had rarely actually piloted her myself. Most of the time, I left Pez Volador’s AI do the bulk of the driving. With 16 witnesses on the next trip, I guess that would have to change.
I went below and looked around. Until now, I had spent most of my time in the main cabin or fishing on the stern. I had visited both the master bathroom and the kitchen. The Heillizdt had done their spatial anomaly trick again. They had added several bunk rooms and two more small heads for the added girls. There was also a visitors’ cabin which was tucked forward of the flying bridge. I guess that was for Edwards.
I flew the invisibly Pez Volador out to sea and set her down. After turning her visible, I had the AI take us back in at 12 knots. There was a good 4-foot swell going. The little ship used gravity to offset the heavy roll the swell would cause. It was still rough. Gigziks must have just ported Edwards to the forward cabin because he soon came walking out.
Mathew Reese Edwards said, “Where are we?”
I pointed and said, “That’s Santiago de Cuba right ahead.”
He pointed down and said, “What are we on?”
I chuckled, “This is Pez Volador. That’s Spanish for ‘Flying Fish.’ She’s my offshore fishing boat. How much do you know about me and Earth 23?”
He said, “I know it in here, ( points to his head ) but right now it’s jumbled about and unclear to me. I know this ship is supposed to be a piston-driven steam ship that runs on kerosene. It has something else that actually runs it. I do not understand that part.”
I laughed, “I don’t understand it all that well either. We have so many advancements on my Earth 23. Nobody is capable of knowing everything there is to know anymore. There is a lot of technology you learn to just accept tech things as they are. This is actually Heillizdt technology. It’s slightly more advanced than what we had on my home planet.”
I said, “This boat or ship, actually, is modeled after a large fishing vessel called a Cape Hatteras. It’s named after a small town in North Carolina. It has a giant bow because the waters up there are very rough. That bow enables the boat to navigate over and through the large waves they encounter every day. It can take some very heavy seas and easily sheds excess water.”
I continued, “She also can fly quite fast.”
He said, “Fly, like a bird flies?”
I said, “Search your new memory for airplanes.”
I saw his eyes move from side to side a couple of times.
He said, “I thought that was bullshit. Hundreds of people really get in a metal tube and go up in the air at hundreds of miles per hour.”
I said, “I have done it many dozens of times. My father even owns one of these airplanes. We will stay on the water for the next several days. I plan to let you and the girls experience the trip normally. We will do some fishing. They will learn to drive Pez Volador. They will take turns at doing that.”
He said, “They will steer this boat?”
I said, “Why not? The boat has an AI, it has its own computer mind, and it will really be in control. It will quietly supervise the girls. It will wake me up if there is any problem. If a storm comes up, we will run for shore and hide from it. All of this will be completely new to them. They have not been instilled with all the knowledge you have received.”
He said, “Why are we here?”
I said, “We are here for women or girls, we are picking up our carpenters and builders. You should soon find out that you now speak Cuban-accented Spanish and the Taíno language as well. Taíno are the native peoples here in this part of the Caribbean. These workers are all Taíno females.”
He said, “Alright, what are we building?”
I said, “Buildings for your tobacco plantation. We will start with a bunkhouse building, an office, and then a large tobacco barn. Maybe not in that order. We already have 5 acres of burley and Virginia tobacco planted and growing. That is what we will use to create our first Mini Cigarillos and cigarettes.”
He sat down. “All that, huh? I guess we are supposed to get these women to build the buildings?”
I said, “You will lightly supervise them. Plans have been drawn up for the buildings, including the materials that need to be purchased. Some will be provided already. The females will be your experienced workers to do the work. Assign one of them to do the supervisory part. You can live 2.6 miles away in the town of Franklin, Virginia. You can stay in a hotel and eat there daily until the buildings are finished.”
This was the first time I had been tied up in town. I had Edwards throw over the fenders at the stern since we were med mooring. I backed her into a slip at the dock to tie her stern first. I didn’t bother dropping a bow anchor for just an overnight stay. I knew the boat would not shift. She has a powerful bow thruster, and Pez Volador would maintain her position no matter what.
When I had her bumped up to the dock, I jumped ashore, set my lines, and tightened them up.
I said, “Ox, set the security field and aversion.”
He said, “Why don’t you just tell Pez herself?”
I said, “Pez Volador, set security and aversion fields.”
“Field and aversion, set.” Pez has a very breathy and sexy female voice.
I said, “Nice to meet you, Pez. You have a sexy voice, Señorita Pez.”
She said, “It is nice to finally talk with you. Until now, you have said very little.”
I said, “Sorry, I’m an idiot. I was not sure if you were an AI or an automated system. I let Ox do most of my talking. Evidently, he got tired of that.”
Ox chuckled.
To Edwards, I said, “I have set a security field and aversion field as well. People won’t try to come aboard, and only you and I can board her. I am going to my hotel room. Do you want to stay on the boat and get to know your way around on her, or follow me to the hotel, or get your own room ashore?”
He said, “I don’t have any Spanish money.”
I reached into my pocket as Ox deposited a bunch of coins. I pulled them out. There was a good mix of Spanish money - bronze pesetas, silver and gold reales. There were also a few old Spanish dollars, or what is known as pieces of eight. I split the coins equally and handed him roughly half.
Ox and I decided on this method after we got to England. When you exchange money at a money exchange, they add a percentage as a fee. Do that a few times, and you’ll end up losing a lot of money. The Heillizdt manufactures the coins as I need them. Maybe it sits in a box on Gigziks’s ship. I don’t know or care. Ox said he’d handle it.
Since I travel to various countries, Ox has taken to changing what’s in my pocket or my sporran. He did that as I went from country to country.
I told Edwards, “You have money now? In public, we can’t discuss our business. You are free to do as you want, just stay out of trouble.”
He said, “I think I will just sleep aboard. I will get to know my AI and get familiar with your boat. As your second in command, I should know about her.”
I said, The boat’s AI casual name is ‘Pez.’ There are more screens at the bridge helm. Were you taught how to use the PC?”
He said, “Yes, something else I need to actually experience.”
I said, “Later on, ask Pez to show the video Horatio Hornblower. It is a fictional play, something made to escape everyday life. Have a glass or two of wine as you watch. It’s a fun show.”
He said, “Then that’s what I will do. I will eat somewhere ashore and come back here.”
I said, “Alright then, see you in the morning. I will pick you up before I go get the girls. I will introduce you to the Smiths; they are my representatives here. Lola is a local woman, and Elmont is her husband.”
He said, “Goodbye, and thank you for rescuing me in London.”
I said, “You were hand-picked by the Heillizdt, it’s been my pleasure meeting you. See you.”
I headed for the hotel.
“Ox, what’s the time?”
“Four-fifteen.”
“Thank you.”
I walked in and the 12-year-old, Jimena, saw me and ran off like a fire was under her skinny little butt.
Mother Gabriela came out.
“Señor, can we have a few words?”
I said, “Is there a problem?”
She said, “Follow me to the comedor, por favor.”
She yelled, “Clarita, two teas, please.”
We sat at the dining room table. “Señor Morgan, you are a problema. You never tell me if you are here or when you wish to eat.”
I said, “Ox, does she have the Exos yet?”
He said, “Yes. The females in this family smooch each other on the lips often. Plus, you kissed her almost two weeks ago.”
I said, “Start her transformation. No hair below the neck. Tighten up her skin, no scars, blemishes, change areolas and nipples to something I like in the pink or rose range. Oh, and the nipple fix. Surprise me.”
