Chapter 27
Waking up at 4 a.m., I put on my sweats and went to the gym. After working out on the heavy bag and weights for an hour, I returned to my room feeling energized and pumped. After my shower, I dressed, went to the kitchen, and greeted Grandmother. We ate breakfast, and I drank my protein shake. Grandmother told me to be careful on campus today. There’s no telling who the coach told about your conversation last night. Get your valuables out of the dorm and leave the campus quickly.
I told her I was leaving now to get there early, and I went to USC. When I arrived at my dorm room, I emptied my lockbox, gathered my clothes, and took them to the Tahoe. Then I got my computer, set the alarm, and loaded the Tahoe. When I was leaving the dorm parking lot, I saw Coach Thomas walking towards my dorm with two men. I called campus police and reported a robbery in progress at the graduate’s dorm on the first floor. I left when I saw the campus police show up.
On the drive home, I called David Lane and told him I had received his new contract. I told him it looked good, but I’m having my entertainment lawyer review it. I will be at the film set Monday morning with the contract signed if the lawyer says it’s ok. If not, I’ll have a revised one, but it looked good. David said thank you for working with us on this project. I’ll courier the new script so you can read it when you return from Arizona, and we said goodbye.
When I arrived home, I unloaded the Tahoe into my room and went to the kitchen. Grandmother asked if I got everything done, and I said yes. Then I told them about seeing Coach Thomas and two men approaching my dorm. So I called the campus police and left, and when they arrived. Grandmother and Mom laughed and said we need to watch the news tonight.
Then, I told them about my conversation with David Lane. He’s sending the new script by courier today or tomorrow for me to read this weekend. I promised to have the contract with me on Monday morning. They were happy I was doing the movie, and I knew they would be visiting the set. We ate lunch, and then I changed and shot hoops in the driveway. I was in a zone when Mom interrupted me and said I had a phone call.
Picking up the house phone, I said hello, and it was USC Chancellor Alan Lake. He asked me if I knew why Coach Thomas would break into my dorm room. I told Chancellor Lake I quit the team over a week ago when I found drugs in my locker. I reported it to the Coach and gave him video evidence. It was the second time someone had tried to plant drugs in my gym locker, so I told him I quit the team.
Coach Thomas called me last night and asked me to play tonight’s game. I asked him who planted the drugs in my locker, and he wouldn’t tell me. So, I refused to play for the team anymore and hung up. Chancellor Lake said Coach Thomas and two men were arrested for breaking into your dorm room, and they had illegal drugs on them. Chancellor Lake asked where I was, and I told him I was home. I finished my online classes early and took my finals yesterday. So, I’m off until the next semester starts in January. He said it’s a good thing you’re not here. It’s a shit show with the police searching the athletic offices and gym lockers. Then there’s the press, and then he said I have an emergency and said goodbye.
Mom and Grandmother were laughing and said it sounded like Coach Thomas was somehow involved in the drug distribution, and I agreed. For him to have access to drugs to plant in my dorm so fast, that’s the only reasonable explanation. The question I have is why he would do it. Was he trying to blackmail me into playing on the team? Mom said whatever his reason was, Coach Thomas was in real trouble and would definitely lose his job.
It was getting late, so I went upstairs, showered, dressed, and returned to the kitchen. Dinner was ready, so we ate, and Grandmother asked when I would call the lady about my leather clothes fitting. I told her on Thursday after I talked to Paula because she wanted to go with me. Mom gave the business card, and the lady’s name was Little River. After dinner, we turned on the local news.
They had a field reporter at USC, and it looked like a zoo with all news stations present and the students watching in the background. The reporter said what we could gather from authorities is that Coach Thomas, the USC basketball coach, and two men were arrested for breaking into a dorm room. The campus police found illegal drugs in their possession, so the Coach’s office and the basketball locker room were searched. The results of that search are unknown at this time.
Mom turned off the TV and said it’s a good thing you went early and got your clothes and valuables out of the dorm. But seeing Coach and two men going to your dorm was lucky. If they planted the drugs, we have all kinds of trouble proving they weren’t yours. I told her it would be interesting to see what happens after the search results are revealed. I’ll bet several players had drugs in their lockers, and who knows what Coach Thomas had in his office.
We said goodnight and went to our rooms. Paula called and apologized for calling so late. She asked what time I was leaving tomorrow for Arizona. I told her around 9 or 10 a.m. after I picked up her mail. Paula said she would arrive late but wanted me to schedule my fitting appointment at the Gala Reservation for Friday morning. I told her I would, and we said goodbye. Then, I sensed the area, went to bed, and fell into a deep, relaxing sleep.
I awoke at 4 a.m. dressed in sweats and ran around our subdivision, sensing every house, and then returned home. After showering, I dressed, packed, and went to the kitchen. I ate breakfast with Grandmother and drank my protein shake. Then, I hugged her goodbye, loaded the Tahoe, and took off for the airport. On the way, I stopped by Paula’s townhouse, picked up the mail, and reached the airport at 8:30 a.m.
After doing the preflight check, getting fuel, and filing my flight plan, I was in the air on my way to Arizona. I arrived at the ranch around 11 a.m. and taxied into the hangar. Cassy came to welcome me while I was doing the post-fight check. Then Hank arrived. I grabbed my bags, and we went to the ranch house. I gave Cassy her treat, and Hank asked me to change into my work clothes and help repair the fence after lunch.
I went to my room, unpacked, changed clothes, and returned to the kitchen. Beth had lunch ready, and Hank told me Paula had called. She said her flight was due at 8:15 p.m., so guess who will pick her up laughing? After lunch, I put on my six-gun, and we drove to the broken fence. A few fence posts had rotted, so we dug them out and put in new posts.
Cassy was barking at a tree, so I looked and saw a strange marking on the trunk. I removed my glove, traced the markings with my finger, and felt a peculiar sensation. Hank arrived and said, I’ve seen several around the ranch. They are an Indian symbol, but I don’t know what they mean. We loaded the broken fence posts into the mule and drove back to the ranch.
After dumping the posts in the burn pile, I visited Midnight, Missy, and Molly. They were happy to see me, and I gave them an apple and some attention. Then Hank and I went to the shooting range and practiced shooting revolvers first, then his lever action rifle. he said if we have time this weekend, I’ll bring out my hunting rifle, and you can take some long-distance shots.
We separated to get cleaned up for dinner, and I called Little River at the Gala Reservation. She was glad to hear from me, and we made an appointment for 9 am tomorrow. Returning to the kitchen, Beth had dinner ready, and we ate dinner. I told Hank about my fitting tomorrow, and he laughed and said have fun. He warned me to be careful because Indians don’t much care for outsiders on the Res.
After dinner, I went to the airport to pick up Paula. Her flight arrived on time, and I met her at baggage claim. We got her bags, and I asked if the black baseball cap guy was on the plane with her. She said yes. Why? I told her he was watching her. We went to the parking garage, and the black hat followed us. I told Paula to take the stairs, and we went to the second floor. I pushed Paula against the wall and told her to stay there, and we waited.
When the door opened, I kicked it shut, knocking the guy out. I pulled him into the stairway and searched him. His driver’s license said his name was Peter Jacobs, and Peter was a Private Investigator. I gave Peter a few kicks to the balls, took his wallet and airplane ticket, and told Paula let’s get out of here. We returned down the stairs, went to the Esclade, loaded her bags, and drove home.
Paula asked who the guy was, and I showed her his wallet. When Paula saw he was a PI, she said, that SOB, I’m going to kill him. Paula said she voted against a defense spending bill and argued with Senator Ron Cunningham. Ron told her she would regret voting against the bill, and they parted ways. I stopped by a commercial dumpster, threw Peter’s wallet and airline ticket in, and continued to the Ranch. Cassy welcomed us and got her treat, and then I told Paula we had an appointment at 9 a.m. tomorrow for my fitting.
We said goodnight and went to our rooms. I sensed the area, went to bed, and immediately fell into a deep, relaxing sleep. It seemed I had just fallen asleep when I woke up to Paula giving me a blow job. I couldn’t hold back and came and fell back asleep. Then I woke again, and Paula was riding me with a sense of urgency. When we came, Paula passed out on my chest, and I fell back asleep again.
I woke up early, but Paula was gone, so I dressed in sweats and ran. Cassy joined me, and I used my senses to guide us in the darkness. When we returned, I gave Cassy her treat, showered, dressed, and went to the kitchen. I was drinking my protein shake when Beth arrived with the Phoenix newspaper. There was an article in the metro section about a man found in the airport parking stairway unconscious without any ID. The man was transported to the local hospital, and his condition was unknown.
When Paula arrived, I showed her the article, and she laughed. Paula said Ron was going to be pissed when he finds out. I asked what would happen when she returned to Washington, DC. Paula said he couldn’t do anything there, but I want you to meet him when you visit. After breakfast, we took off for the Gala Reservation. I followed Little Rivers’s directions, and we arrived at their store on time.
Several male Indian youths were sitting in front of the store. One stood up and told us to go home. I told him sorry, but we have an appointment with Little River. He said too bad we’ll have to hurt you, then have fun with your lady friend. I walked up to the porch and asked who wanted to die first. The shop door opened, and Little River came out. She told Broken Tree to leave and take his asshole friends with him.
Broken Tree lunged at me, pulling a knife. I grabbed his knife hand and broke his arm, then knocked him out. I asked who was next, and they took off running. Little River was laughing and said I should hire you to keep those assholes away. I introduced Little River to US Senator Paula Davis and told her she was my mentor. Broken Tree woke up and grabbed the knife with his left hand, so I stepped on it. There was a crunching sound, then a scream, and Broken Tree passed out.
I picked up the knife and handed it to Little River, who was laughing with Paula. We went inside the shop, and Little River made a few phone calls. Then she gave Paula directions to the tribal council’s office and said good luck. Little River told Paula we have been lied to so many times. Words don’t mean anything. Paula thanked her and took off, and Little River took me to a fitting room in the back.
Little River told me to take all my clothes off so we could check the fit. They’re not designed to have undergarments worn, just skin-to-skin. I told her ok and stripped, and she said oh, my and dropped to her knees and engulfed my cock. I didn’t last long, and Little River struggled to swallow everything. She was shaking and moaning but still on her knees. When she recovered, Little River said I knew you were special and we continued with the fitting.
I put on the first pair of skins, and then she led me to a shower. When the skins were thoroughly soaked, I got out, and she fitted me with a pair of moccasins. Little River said they need to dry while you wear them, so let’s go for a walk. She locked up her shop, and we went hiking up a hill behind the store. I wondered where we were going and finally reached a cabin. Little River knocked on the door and said Grandfather, I’ve brought him to visit you.
An old Indian answered the door and hugged Little River. Then he looked at me and said come inside. Little River said Grandfather, this Chance Reynolds, and I shook his hand. The energy flowed into me, his eyes widened, and he said you’re special. Little River told me her Grandfather’s name was Winding River, and he was our spiritual leader or shaman.
