I woke up early, showered, dressed, and took my bags to the kitchen. I drank my protein shake and then loaded my bags in the Arcadia. Returning to the kitchen, Grandmother and Mom brought their bags into the kitchen. So l loaded them into the Arcadia while they loaded the ice chest with the perishable food. Grandmother made my protein shakes and put them in the cooler, and we were ready. I locked the house, loaded the ice chest, and took off for Paula’s.

We arrived 15 minutes early, but Paula was ready. I loaded her bags, and we took off for Big Bear. We missed rush hour and went against traffic the rest of the way. Mom stopped outside of San Bernardino for fuel and breakfast, and then we climbed the mountain. The roads were in good shape, so we made good time to the cabin. Arriving at the cabin, we unlocked the door and opened the windows to let in the fresh air. Then we unloaded the Arcadia, and Mom showed Paula her room, and she bunked with Grandmother. I told Paula we came up here two weeks ago on a Wednesday. Thursday, the storm hit and closed the mountain road. We went skiing that day after I snow-plowed the driveway and road and had the beginner’s slope to ourselves. But after a few days here, you’re looking forward to getting home. We finished dinner, and everyone went to the den and sat in front of the fireplace.

Paula said David finished editing my campaign commercials. He was on a tight time frame with the movie starting again, so he worked overtime on it. Then I woke up and looked at the clock, and it was 1 a.m. I dressed and sensed the area, and two men were climbing over our gate with rifles. When I got close, I stopped, moved to the side, and waited for them to come to me. One man said John, are you sure that the cabin is empty. Then, I picked up their rifles and wallets, returned to my room, and went to bed.

Waking up early, I put on sweats, ran down the driveway, and then up the road. The truck was gone, so that was good, and I continued to the highway. Then I returned to the cabin, showered, dressed, and went to the kitchen. Grandmother was cooking breakfast and said I heard you leave early this morning. I told her we had two intruders who thought our cabin was vacant. They found out the hard way it wasn’t, and she laughed.

Mom arrived, followed by Paula, and we ate breakfast. Then we got ready to go and grabbed the intruder’s wallets. I took the cash, and when we arrived at the Snow Summit, I dropped their credit cards in the parking lot and put their wallets in the trash. Paula decided to purchase a ski suit, and we rented skis and boots. Paula had skied before, but it had been a while, so we first went to the beginner’s slope.

Then we got brave, went to the next level slope, and had fun falling and getting up. After the third run, we were able to make it without falling. It started to get busy by lunchtime, so we turned in our equipment and ate lunch at the lodge. Then, we gave Paula a tour of Big Bear and returned to the cabin. Once inside, everyone wanted to go to the hot springs, so we put on our hiking shoes and hiked up the mountain.
