Valentin walked nervously through the waiting room, expecting some information about his mother’s condition. He walked to the reception desk and asked the nurse on duty, “Why aren’t they telling me anything? At least tell me she’s alive.”

For Valentin, seconds felt like minutes, and minutes felt like hours. He hesitated about telling his father, Elio, what had happened. However, their relationship was purely formal, and Valentin felt that Elio was to blame for this. He didn’t tell him. He sent a message to Tina. That was enough.

He went back to the nurse on duty at the reception desk and asked the same thing again, “You said Doctor Kandar was on duty, right?”

That information meant a lot to him because Dr. Kandar was his friend from school. And as he walked aimlessly through the waiting room between plastic chairs and blankly stared at the walls with various posters full of information that meant absolutely nothing to him at the moment, the door opened. The man in a white coat stepped into the waiting room, and Valentin, who had been impatiently waiting for this moment, became calm and scared at the same time. He felt as if it were easier for him to live in uncertainty than to face reality and possibly hear bad news.

However, he was the first to speak while the doctor’s wooden clogs were still making a clomping sound on the floor. “Is she alive? Did she get it out of her system?” he asked timidly.

“It’s Sofia, of course, she’ll heal,” replied Doctor Kandar, and it was easy to recognize the relief on Valentin’s face.

“Come, we’ll talk in the office,” the doctor said, and they both entered the room.

The doctor sat down at his desk, Valentin opposite him.

“It was a matter of minutes, not to say seconds. We pumped out her stomach and managed to resuscitate her while an even smaller amount of medication entered her bloodstream. The turn of events this time was fortunate.”

“So she’s now ... normal ... I think...” Valentin was still in a kind of shock, so he had a hard time saying what he was thinking.

“If you can say that, when Sofia wakes up, she’ll just need some rest, she’ll feel sleepy, but physically everything will be fine. However, it’s clear what happened here.” The doctor looked Valentin in the eyes and continued, “It’s obvious that this was a suicide attempt and that’s a serious psychological condition...”

Valentin interrupted him, “When can I see her? I need to know what the reason was...”

“You can see her whenever you want, but you need to know that Sofia has to be hospitalized, of course, in the appropriate ward,” the doctor said calmly.

“Wait! Are you saying that my mom has to stay in a psychiatric ward, in a mental institution? She’s not crazy!” Valentin reacted.

“Of course she’s not crazy, but that’s the protocol. A patient who attempted suicide simply has to be hospitalized until their condition improves. Those are the rules,” the doctor tried to explain.

“Well, I understand, but do you think that jerk of a father of mine will let his wife stay in a mental institution? Well, he’s stronger than the law, and you know that very well. After all, he’s the one who’s to blame for what happened to mom.”

Doctor Kandar sighed. “I guess he doesn’t know what happened yet.”

“You know, I don’t really have any contact with him. I know there’s a law that the hospital isn’t allowed to give information about a patient, unless the patient agrees. Also, the hospital director is a member of his party. I’m sure they’ll try something...” Valentin immediately put two and two together. But then he stopped and thought for a moment, then continued. “Wait, quite the opposite. They won’t try to cover up that she tried to kill herself, they’ll make her look completely crazy and lock her up in some mental institution...”

“No, that’s not exactly that easy to do, I don’t think the director would...” The doctor tried to calm Valentin down.

“Man, they’re capable of anything,” Valentin stated resolutely.

This time, the doctor thought for a moment. After a few moments, he spoke. “ There’s a doctor’s meeting after we’ve made the morning rounds. Then, an accurate diagnosis will be made, and a treatment plan will be drawn up. Your mother must remain hospitalized for a while, according to all regulations. When she’s discharged from intensive care, she’ll be transferred to the psychiatric ward, either in the capital or in Labor. At that point, we’re no longer in charge. But I can give you some advice.”

“I’m listening.” Valentin prepared himself to listen carefully to what the doctor had to say.

“There’s a private clinic on the island of Levantes. A really good, but expensive, private clinic. Addicts and all the wealthy people who have mental health problems come there for treatment. There are more famous people there whom you see in the media. You’re influential and have connections, so I think you could get a place there. It’s not a classic sanatorium. It’s more like a hotel for rich clients, except that the best doctors in the country take care of the guests.”

“I know, I know, the New Life clinic. It’s been around for a few years,” Valentin recalled.

“It’s really not a classic institution where they stuff patients with pills or brainwash them with all sorts of religious nonsense ... So the sooner you contact them, the sooner your mom will be discharged from here and transferred there immediately,” the doctor advised.

“Yes, I’ll call first thing in the morning. But when Elio comes, will you talk to him?” Valentin asked.

“Yes, if he comes on my shift. Listen, we have to inform family members, but only to family members. But you know that in this small town, everyone knows everything. It’s simply not possible to hide information. Everything leaks out, so don’t be surprised if stories start circulating today...” The doctor was honest. Yes, Valentin could see that happening, very much so.

A moment later, Valentin was sitting by the bed where Sofia was lying. Even though it was late at night, Valentin was exchanging messages with some people who might have an acquaintance at the New Life clinic. The door to the room opened. First, a nurse came in, followed by Valentin’s sister and father.

When Elio asked, “What happened? Why didn’t you call me?” Valentin didn’t react.

He got up from his chair and, without a word, and without even looking at Elio, headed for the door. Along the way, he gently touched his sister’s hand and said quietly, “Everything will be okay.”

Tina looked confusedly at her mother, then at Valentin, then at her father. She probably didn’t even understand what her role was in all this. She was standing next to her mother. Dressed the same slutty way as last night, in a top that clearly outlined her breasts and a short skirt that revealed, rather than concealed, her thighs that had just a few hours ago been dripping with her father’s semen, the very man standing there next to her. It was obvious that Tina had no qualms about standing next to her barely surviving mother, and only moments after having been fucked by her own father. Is Tina really such a stupid slut that she doesn’t even understand the whole situation, or is she so cunning that she does all this consciously and calculatedly? Valentin wondered.

Elio didn’t spend even two minutes with Sofia. His demeanor was as if he were the one in charge here. “Quick, where’s the doctor? Why isn’t he here? We need to talk!” Elio shouted.

Valentin watched calmly, but barely refrained from reacting. He went with Tina to the waiting room while Dr. Kandar was having a much less pleasant conversation.

One couldn’t hear what the doctor was saying through the closed doors, but Elio’s raised tone could be heard all the way to the waiting room.

“You have no idea, you’re no doctor! It’s not suicide, she’s just crazy, and that’s it! You have to put her in a mental institution right away. If I hear rumors in town, if people start mentioning that my wife tried to kill herself, I’ll fuck everyone! You first. You’ll end up as a cleaner, you’ll never be a doctor again!” Elio yelled. He slammed the door and grabbed his phone. He typed something nervously, then put the phone to his ear and said loudly, “Hospital Director Kerich, we have a problem, come to the hospital as soon as possible!”

Elio looked at Valentin and Tina and said, “Go home, I’ll take care of this.”

As he drove his sister home, Valentin took the opportunity to ask Tina, “What exactly happened?”

Tina slowly began to answer. Her slow movements and even slower expression gave her time to think carefully about what to say.

“Well ... they were arguing. As usual. They were supposed to go to dinner, but ... they had an argument, so I had to...” Tina replied. She managed to come up with a pretty convincing sentence, and she wasn’t even lying.

Hospital Director Kerich had somehow managed to get to work earlier than usual. Elio met him and immediately began to explain, “It’s your career, you have to...”

The hospital director interrupted, “Wait for me in my office while I see what can be done.”

The hospital director, of course, went to talk to Dr. Kandar first. The two experts agreed. “The mayor will tear us apart if word gets out about this. The patient simply has to stay hospitalized for a while, but if she stays here by tomorrow, the whole city will know. And then we’re screwed.”

“You have to convince him that staying at that clinic on the island would be the best solution. She would be safe, and the clinic guarantees discretion ... Everyone is happy. We acted according to the dictates of the profession and ethics, the patient is well taken care of, and the mayor is out of the scandal,” concluded Dr. Kandar.

“Yes, at least he won’t have a problem pulling strings to get Sofia placed, and it won’t be financially draining for them either.” The chief physician agreed.

After taking his sister home, Valentin returned to the hospital. A conversation ensued, with the two doctors on one side and the father and son on the other, who were barely speaking to each other. Dr. Kandar took advantage of the moment when they were alone and said to Valentin, “Everything will be okay, just listen to what the chief physician has to say, everyone has the same goal...”

He didn’t finish his sentence because Elio and the chief physician were coming. During the conversation, the corrupt chief physician successfully balanced his medical calling with ethics and loyalty to Elio. He managed to explain to Elio what Dr. Kandar had suggested to Valentin, namely, to take Sofia to the top-notch clinic temporarily. The “New Life” was the best solution.

Elio thought for a few moments and realized that it was a good decision, even though his reasoning was of a completely different nature. In fact, everyone present at the meeting had different reasons, different motives, but the solution suited everyone. Dr. Kandar was okay with this because it was the professionally correct solution. Elio was okay with this because Sofia would be cut off from the world, and the case would be covered up. Valentin was okay with this because the New Life clinic was truly the best place for his mother to recover. And the head doctor? He had satisfied all parties and made no professionally unethical mistakes.

Sofia had not even woken up yet, and a place had already been reserved for her in the best clinic in this part of Europe. At the moment of awakening, Valentin was with his mother. He held her hand, and after she looked around in confusion for a few moments, she laughed and huffed, “Oh, I can’t even kill myself...”

“I’m glad you did fail,” her son said and hugged her.

“I dreamed that I was lying in a completely white room, the breeze was blowing through the open window, and the smell of the pine forest was coming into the room. Such a beautiful pine forest...” Sofia was talking.

“Hmm, Mom, maybe it’s not just a dream. I have to tell you something. Because of ... this ... You need to be under supervision for a while ... You know, at Levantes...” Valentin tried to explain to her, but didn’t want to say it directly.

“Ah, ‘New Life’ rehabilitation. That’s what I need. Many famous people went there...” Sofia quickly understood and seemed satisfied.

Valentin also nodded his head in satisfaction. He just added, “He agrees too. You’re going tomorrow. You still have to be here today.”

The morning at the Neptun company went as usual. No one knew what was going on with their boss and owner. Her absence in the morning was not unusual, but when Sofia did not show up at work in the afternoon or contact anyone, various suspicions and rumors began. Sandra Teranis did not take Sofia’s absence seriously, nor did she care about the rumors running wild. It was important to Sandra that everything was fine at home. Her relationship with her husband was uneventful. Her daughter, Gina, who lived in the downstairs apartment of their house with her small child, was working occasional internships after graduating from law, and her son, Nico, was enjoying his youthful days waiting for the summer and a seasonal job to arrive. This stable situation gave Sandra room for her adventures. The scandal at Labor was almost forgotten, and she clearly enjoyed the occasional games with Mr. X.

That evening, while Sofia was counting down the last 24 hours she had to stay in the hospital, Sandra was home alone. Nino had said he would be having fun with friends, Nico was out, and therefore, Mr. X was not online either, so Sandra had the whole evening to herself. As it was her habit, she checked her work e-mail in the evening and possibly did some unfinished work tasks. This time, she came to her home office and checked her work tasks, but also her Skype address, hoping that Mr. X would call. Since Mr. X did not answer, Sandra used the time to spoil herself. She spent a long time using a hand massager, filled the bathtub with warm water, and added some exotic, relaxing scents. She undressed and looked at herself in the mirror. She carefully examined her face first, looking for any wrinkles. Then she measured each part of her body, looking for places where fat deposits had appeared. The well-endowed redhead was extremely sexy, so a few extra pounds on her looked like an advantage, not something to be concerned about. She would lift her breasts with her hand, but gravity simply did not allow such large breasts to stand straight; they would sag, and her large nipples would point down. It was clear to her that her breasts were so large that they were a lure for men, not an indication of being overweight. Then she looked at her crotch and hesitated whether to let it grow a little more hair or shave it. Still, she decided on a compromise, shaving her bikini area. By that time, the tub was full of water, and the bubbles of foam simply tempted her to get into the tub. She tied her hair up and got into the water. For a few minutes, she just enjoyed the warm water. She closed her eyes and surrendered to the pleasant feeling, and then she took a sponge and rubbed the rough end of it all over her body. Touching her body in this way, images of sexual content appeared in her mind. She wasn’t fantasizing; her mind was randomly throwing out various situations, from Mr. X’s huge cock to her fucking her husband, all the way to that situation with three guys in the hotel. Sandra’s hand lingered more and more, hovering over her crotch. The warm water intensified her excitement, and her fingers found her large, prominent clitoris. First, she gently squeezed it with two fingers and then began to rub it. At first gently, then faster and faster. Even her hair, which was supposed to remain dry, was increasingly immersed in the water. Still, her excitement increased. Her legs spread, and her movements became faster and faster. There was no need to push her fingers into her snatch or any other simulation. She closed her eyes and completely surrendered to the pleasure. Her imagination, with the help of her fingers on her clitoris, soon gave Sandra an intense orgasm.

With the confirmation of the “New Life” clinic on the island of Levantes, Sofia was discharged from the hospital in the morning and traveled there for treatment the same day. Valentin came to pick her up and took her home to get ready. After the suitcases were packed, Sofia had one task to complete before leaving town. Although she was advised to fulfill her obligations towards her company in writing or by phone, Sofia wanted to visit the company in person.

It was clear to her that all sorts of stories would be circulating in the city, and Sofia decided to address her people directly. Dressed in jeans and a turtleneck, a leather jacket, her hair wrapped in a scarf, and wearing sunglasses despite the cloudy weather, she looked like a celebrity who didn’t want to be recognized while walking around the city. Valentin was waiting for her in the car, and she entered the building. She got into the elevator that took her to the room where the department heads and directors had their offices. The door opened, and Laura, Sofia’s secretary, was taken aback. She stared at her boss with wide eyes and a mouth wide open. Who knows what kinds of stories she had heard, so there was no way that Sofia would come in.

“S-boss...!” That was all Laura managed to say.

“What is it, Laura? You look like you’ve seen a ghost,” Sofia said in her usual tone when it came to her behavior at work.

Without knocking, Sofia entered the main office where the people in the highest positions were housed. Suddenly, there was silence. Every movement of these five men and one woman was stopped. They reacted the same way as her secretary, Laura.

“Okay, start breathing so I can tell you something because I don’t have time.” She started talking before they even got their bearings.

As they began to recover from their shock, Sofia continued, “I came to tell you personally that the things you’ve obviously heard are nonsense. Yes, I ended up in the hospital indeed, due to an overdose of tranquilizers. That’s why I’ll be gone for a while. You all know how to do your jobs, and I’m sure you can do without me. Don’t worry, when I get back, we’ll share the commissions and bonuses fairly—if there are any. Anyway, I have just one wish, and it may not be fair to you five men who have been here and working for years. Any one of you deserves to be my replacement, but my wish is that this company be run exclusively by a woman. And since the only woman in the position, it will be Sandra who will temporarily run the business...”

Sofia gestured for Sandra to stand. The red-haired woman stood up, and the five men applauded.

“As I said, this is not fair because Sandra is in the lowest position of all of you, but that’s simply how I want it. And I expect you to help Sandra with your knowledge and experience, and for the relationship to be friendly. I have faith in you and wish you all the best, Sandra. I only need you for a short time in private.”

Sofia and Sandra went to the office, which Sofia would entrust to Sandra for a while. There were so many things that Sofia had to explain to Sandra; she also revealed some secrets of running the company. She even shared some of her tricks. “ ... usually if something gets stuck, contact Valentin, he’s the only one who will have contact with me. I have to go now, I’m sorry we don’t have time to talk privately, although I would like to.”

Sandra wanted to ask a lot of questions, but Sofia opened the door and left. She remained sitting in that director’s chair and made herself comfortable. She studied every little detail of the room. Her expression changed. She smiled. Until a few moments ago, she had no idea that she would take on Sofia’s role. The question remained, though, did Sofia really want a woman to run the company, or did she still feel that she had to repay Sandra for what she had done to her before?

A few days later, Nino Menola, Sandra’s husband, was working in his repair shop. While repairing his outboard motor, he saw a group of well-dressed people walking along this part of the coast that is designated for industry, fishing, and the port. He immediately realized that they were Mayor Elio and his delegation, who often visit parts of the city. Nino and Elio know each other, of course, they are both from this small town. You couldn’t say they were friends, but they were acquainted. When they meet, they chat and have a drink. It used to be more common, but since Elio has entered politics, they rarely see each other anymore. Passing by Nino’s workshop, Elio separated himself from the group of people he was with and approached Nino. Seeing Elio approaching him, Nino wiped his dirty hands on a rag and shook the mayor’s hand.

“How are you, Nino? We haven’t seen each other since I ... and this position.” Elio asked.

“Well, as you can see, things are going slowly, we’re waiting for the season to pick up...” Nino replied.

“That’s how it should be. We’re expecting the best season yet. There’ll be a lot of work for everyone,” Elio said proudly.

“We’ll see, heh heh...” Nino said ambiguously.

“Listen, if you need anything, feel free to contact me. We have each other’s backs, right?” Finally, Elio had stated the reason for the visit.

“Of course, heh,” Nino replied with a smile and continued working.

As soon as Elio turned around, Nino’s forced smile disappeared. Nino had no problems with Elio Menola; he just didn’t like politics and power. He wasn’t interested. Nino just wanted to work and live, like the average person, like everyone else.

The Tenaris family used Saturday for a family reunion. Although they all lived in the same house, with Gina and her daughter on the ground floor and the others on the first floor, they rarely got to sit down at the same table together. This time, Sandra’s temporary position as director was a reason for a little celebration. Sandra started preparing dinner and cakes right after work, and Gina helped her later, as did nine-year-old Elena.

In the evening, everyone finally sat down at the table. The main topic was Sandra’s new role at work, and at one point, Gina said, “I submitted an application to the mayor’s office. I saw an ad that they were looking for a law graduate.”

While Sandra nodded in approval, Nino quickly swallowed a bite and said, “Interesting, the other day Menola was walking past the workshop and stopped by. I knew he didn’t just come by...”

Gina frowned, “I don’t understand what you mean.”

“Well, he came to me, asked how I was, and offered to help me if I needed anything. That’s the way he plays. He just makes people come to him for help, and then he takes advantage of it threefold,” Nino said what he thought.

“That’s not really the case. Well, you’ve always had a good relationship with him. I don’t see why he would have any ulterior motives in exchange for Gina’s employment,” Sandra expressed her opinion.

“I really don’t see what the problem would be. Well, for me, it’s better to have a permanent and secure job in the city administration than to do occasional jobs for various agencies.” Gina didn’t understand what the problem was.

Sandra sided with Gina. “Gina is absolutely right, she thinks realistically and in her own favor. Of course, it’s better to have a job in the mayor’s office than in various private companies.”
