Chapter 28: Lu Li’s Birthday (Part 2)
An Baili looked at Chu Jingyi’s back and gently poked Lu Li: “Why did you bully Jingyi? Her expression made me feel sad. She’s so bad.”
That wasn’t intentional bullying. Lu Li argued in his heart. He opened the gift box Chu Jingyi gave him, and it was indeed a brand new notebook, and there was also a fountain pen next to it. It was not expensive, but a fountain pen that cost 30 yuan in the student supermarket. Lu Li was a little disappointed, not because he disliked the cheap gift, but because he hoped that the monitor would give him something different. A pen and a book, which can be given to anyone on their birthday, is a very insincere gift.
Disappointment only existed for a moment, and Lu Li didn’t take it to heart, just thinking that the fool was not good at expressing himself.
“Happy birthday, dear.” An Baili said with a smile, “I didn’t prepare a gift, can I owe it to you first?”
“Yes.” It didn’t really matter whether An Baili gave a gift or not. Being able to reconcile with her was the best gift. Not long after, the monitor returned to her seat after checking the attendance. She looked a little depressed, as if she had something on her mind. Lu Li glanced at her and finally decided to hold back his words. Restraining curiosity is one of the ways for men to maintain their charm, and not asking questions is a science.
An Baili didn’t have these concerns. She held the monitor and whispered to her daughter: “Jingyi, why did you go for so long?”
Chu Jingyi was a person who couldn’t keep her words to herself: “I, I went to find the head teacher and wanted to ... want to change seats.”
Lu Li’s ears moved quietly.
“It’s not that I don’t want to be your deskmate, but ... it’s not convenient to sit at the back and can’t see the blackboard.” Chu Jingyi explained again, fearing that An Baili would misunderstand, “I sit at the front, and I can still find you and play with you after class.”
An Baili felt complicated, and said “oh” but didn’t answer. On the one hand, she really wanted to have more time alone with Lu Li, and on the other hand, she also liked Chu Jingyi, a pure girl, who seemed to be following her old path. When she saw Lu Li and Wen Hubo getting closer and closer, she felt the same way.
It’s jealousy. The cowardly Chu Jingyi would show it when she was jealous, and would make trouble. On the contrary, the generous Chu Jingyi would shrink into a corner like a hedgehog when she was jealous. Only An Baili knew the girl’s worries best. She glanced at Lu Li who was eavesdropping with his ears erect, and pinched his vest flesh angrily: “It’s all your fault.”
“What?”
“Nothing!”
The day’s classes ended quickly, and Chu Jingyi left early after school. She was usually the last one to leave the classroom, and she was responsible for locking the door, checking hygiene, and wiping the blackboard. Lu Li called out to the silly goose a few times, but she just walked away as if she didn’t hear anything.
Chu Jingyi walked to the school gate with her schoolbag on her back, and suddenly remembered that she didn’t take her umbrella, but she was hiding something in her heart, and the little girl didn’t want to look back. She was worried that if she looked back, she would see Lu Li and An Baili being affectionate again. This girl didn’t have a real sense of the concept of boyfriend and girlfriend, and thought that at most they would go to school and eat together, wasn’t that the same as usual? But this morning, when she saw Lu Li taking care of An Baili meticulously, she felt something fermenting in her heart, like a moldy cabinet on a rainy day, or a pickled cucumber that was knocked over in the kitchen. The unspeakable taste lingered in her heart and was unforgettable for a long time.
This is not a good friend ... As clumsy as she was, she finally realized this point. Good friends will not be sad.
What is the relationship?
Instead of walking in the direction of home, she wandered aimlessly in the commercial street outside the school. There were young couples walking together, talking and laughing, but she was alone. There was a drizzle in the sky, and she found a restaurant and squatted under the eaves at the door to avoid the rain. She looked very pitiful. She didn’t want to go home, nor did she want to go back to school to get an umbrella. She just wanted to walk around, anywhere, as long as she didn’t see Lu Li.
A young couple holding an umbrella passed by her, and the girl said to her boyfriend unhappily: “You still say you don’t like her? You brought her egg tarts, I want some too!”
“Don’t make a fuss, I just treat her as a sister. Why are you always jealous every day?”
“If I don’t like you, who would be jealous?”
The couple walked away, but these words still lingered in the mind of Daitou E. Just as she was lost in thought, a figure appeared in front of her: “Silly, you forgot to bring your umbrella.”
