Chapter 5

The following afternoon, Cindy and Josh were in their room as Cindy was looking out the window.

“I’m getting really bored,” Cindy said. “I want to go out and have something fun to do.”

“Remember what Terry said?” Josh answered. “He said we need to stay within the house and the area around it. That loony murderous freakazoid is out there within the area.”

“I know that,” Cindy replied. “But I still want to go out and do something fun.”

“But Cindy,” Josh pleaded. “As per what Terry said via his state trooper friend, we have to stay here, and, if we go out, we must stay near the house and not wander too far.”

“Oh Josh, you’re such a worry wart. Why don’t you be a man instead of a scaredy guy?”

“I’m not scaredy, Cindy. I’m simply trying to play it safe per what Terry said.”

“Okay fine, Josh,” Cindy said in a smart aleck way. “You play it safe while I go out and try to have some fun. I’m not afraid of no pathetic freakazoid type character anyway.”

Cindy ran downstairs as Josh followed her. He wanted to make sure he kept an eye on her to make sure she stayed safe.

“Changed your mind, little boy?” Cindy said still in a smart aleck way.

“No, Cindy,” Josh replied. “I’m going to make sure that you stay safe. I’m gonna be keeping my eye on you to make sure of that, Cindy. With that loony guy out there somewhere, I have to do that.”

“I don’t need you to do that for me,” Cindy answered defensively. “I can look out for myself.”

Cindy left the house via the kitchen door. Josh followed her.

“Wait up, Cindy,” Josh said as he was running to catch up with her. “Don’t go so fast. At least, let me walk with you.”

Both Josh and Cindy came across the lake. They both decided to sit down on the rocky shore.

“Wow!” Cindy calmly exclaimed. “What a beautiful lake this is! I bet this lake is good for fishing!”

“I suppose it is,” Josh said. “That is, if you like to fish.”

“Have you ever fished before?” Cindy wondered.

“I did go once with my uncle on a fishing thing when I was a child,” Josh replied. “But it was uneventful. My uncle didn’t catch anything.”

As they sat on the shore, Vickers was lurking in the woods looking at them.

“This lake may be good for another thing,” Cindy said. “It looks good for skinny dipping.”

Cindy started disrobing quickly. As she did so, she had a bright smile on her face.

“Cindy, don’t do that!” Josh exclaimed nervously. “What if a cop shows up and catches us?! He would arrest us both as this is against the law!”

“There you go again,” Cindy replied after she finished. “You’re being a worry wart again. There are no cops for miles around.”

“You don’t know that!” Josh answered still nervously. “There could be one watching us at this moment somewhere.”

“Oh please, Josh,” Cindy responded in an unbelieving way. “Be a man, strip off those duds of yours and stop worrying so much.”

Cindy ran into the lake and started swimming. She was surprised by how comfortable the water felt.

C’mon Josh,” Cindy encouraged. “The water feels very good.”

Unable to get Cindy to do what was right, Josh finally disrobed and followed her into the lake.
