Chapter 6

She stood up and took the clothes from him. Then turned and walked into the small bathroom. She turned on the overhead bulb. Then closed the door. She was a little uncomfortable with the fact that there was no lock on the door, but she was pretty sure that Adam wasn’t going to come in. Still, she didn’t remove her dress until she got into the shower and closed the curtain.

The very warm water felt so good. She let it just fall over her head, and tried not to think about anything for that moment.

While she showered Adam walked into the kitchen and began cooking dinner. He had one more can of kippers left with some crackers, then on the stove he boiled some potatoes and green beans.

Violet smelled the fishy smell of kippers as she dressed. It instantly triggered a funny childhood memory and she laughed, then kind of got sad again.

The memory was of her and her mother. It was before her step father came along. They were on a road trip just the two of them. Her mom was barely making ends meet, so all they had was kippers and white bread, and coke. So they pulled over at a roadside park to eat. Well her mom accidentally ripped the pull top off, and now had to use a butter knife to try and pry it open. She ended up spraying kipper oil all over herself, and they had to endure fish smell the rest of the day.

Violet was now wearing Adam’s clothes. It was actually a lot more comfortable than the dress. Although she still couldn’t get used to not having any bra or panties on. It just felt so strange. She wondered what Maeble wanted to talk to her about as she looked in the mirror and combed her clean blonde hair.

Adam was eating when he saw her walk out of his room. He thought she looked adorable in his clothes. Adam stood up.

“Are you still hungry? I’ve got potatoes with gravy and green beans.”

She gave him a very small shy smile, but didn’t answer him. She was slowly beginning to like him. She remembered the way his arms felt around her as she cried. It really helped, although he might not have known that it did.

Violet slowly walked over and joined him at the table. Then he sat down and looked into her eyes. She felt uncomfortable looking so deeply into his eyes so she looked down. He sensed that she was a little uneasy so he looked down at his food and kept eating. Things were quiet for a minute, then she asked a question out of the blue.

“So how many girls have you won since you have lived here?”

He was surprised, not only by the question, but she was actually talking to him.

“Just you.”

Violet was surprised. Why would she have been the first?

“Why just me?”

Adam slightly smiled, which made him even more handsome, even with a bruised up face.

“You’re the first girl that got my attention.”

In some weird way, that actually was flattering to her.

“How long have you lived here?” she asked curiously.

“Three years.”

She wanted to know more. Hearing him talk about himself made her forget about her sad feelings.

“How did you find your way here?”

Adam took a deep breath then laughed. It was a long story, and he really didn’t want to get into it too deep, but she was talking to him, and he didn’t want to do anything to change that.

“Well, I grew up in California along the coast. I ran away from home as a teen...”

He paused as if a memory was triggered, then continued, “The streets of Cali were rough. I had to get away, so I snuck onto a barge that brought me here. When I showed up at the docks, I got in a lot of trouble and had to fight my way out. I was really badly injured, and Phoenix found me lying in a ditch. He brought me back here, and that’s history.”

It was a long story summed up in a few words, but it was enough to give her just a little more info about him. She also wanted to open up so badly, and tell him about her mom, but everytime she tried, she would just break down again. He saw her face go from content to sad again, in a few seconds. He knew she was hiding something. He finished his dinner, then walked over to rinse his bowl in the sink. He dried his hands then turned to look at her.

“Come on, let’s go to town. I need to buy you some things.”

Violet was surprised. She had no idea she would be allowed to leave. She followed Adam outside. He locked the door then walked over to his bike. It was a vintage 1971 Honda 12V Motorcycle CB350, chrome and red. Violet had no idea, but he loved that bike. He showed her how to hop on behind him, and hug him tight against her, to hold on. Then he gave her his matching red helmet.

They slowly made their way through the small village. Then onto the long, winding, dirt road, through the jungle. It was still early evening, but the sun had begun to slowly make its way towards the horizon, with orange and purple clouds slowly moving by in the distance. Then they turned onto a paved road.

Violet did not enjoy her last ride on Adam’s bike at all, but today was much different. It was a whole new experience for her. For just a moment, she felt like this was where she was supposed to be. It felt good hugging Adam tightly against her. As the engine vibrated between their legs, and the wind blew through their hair, she felt so safe with him. She knew he cared about her, and he was a lot nicer than her step father ever was. So, when she thought about it, her life could actually be better now then it would have been.
