When Water Balloons Changed Everything

Preface
When I started this retirement project, I found myself drifting back to the age of fourteen — that magical time when the world felt enormous, every idea seemed possible, and the line between imagination and reality was ... well, flexible. I wanted to revisit that era and ask a simple question: What could a fourteen‑year‑old really do back then? And, just for fun, what could that same kid drag forward in time if he somehow got the chance?
Researching all of this was a trip. I went down rabbit holes I didn’t even know existed — dusty inventions, forgotten gadgets, corporate histories, and the odd story that probably shouldn’t be taken at face value. My hope is that this little adventure entertains readers my age (the “old farts,” as we lovingly call ourselves) while also giving younger readers a playful peek into a world that existed long before smartphones, streaming, and social media.
Now, let’s get something straight: the following story is true. Well ... sorta true. Okay, maybe there’s a stretch or two. Fine — it’s pure fiction. But I promise it’s worth reading anyway.
