Chapter 9

Colton Ackerman couldn’t help but have a smile on his face as he watched Tom walk out of his office. The reason for that smile was that he thought he had helped young love. Telling Tom of Colton’s decision to date a subordinate employee he thought could help Tom in developing a relationship with Myla. Colton knew it was the right thing for him to date a subordinate when he became the CEO confirmed by the many years of his marriage.

The reason Colton had this meeting with Tom was what Myla told her mother. After swearing her mother to secrecy, she said that she was attracted to Tom, but thought nothing would develop because Tom was her boss and he did everything by the book. Colton’s wife couldn’t wait to tell Colton what Myla had said and that was what prompted his meeting with Tom.

Colton didn’t know if anything would develop with Tom and his daughter, but he did like Tom. Colton had come to know Tom and believed Tom had a good head on his shoulders. Colton thought Tom would be a good son-in-law if it came to that. He thought that based on Tom’s first run-in with Myla when she was interning, that Tom wouldn’t put up with any of her shenanigans which was another reason he liked Tom.

Leaning back in his chair, Colton did some mental reminiscing about his life as some of it was similar to Tom’s present situation.

Colt was born and raised in Denver. He attended Westview Valley High and was a gifted athlete. Colton lettered in all three major sports in high school. His “fireplug” build, coupled with his speed, made football his best sport and earned him several football scholarship offers. After discussing it with his parents, he accepted the offer from the University of Texas at Austin.

The reason for his selecting UT was that the university had a highly rated School of Business. Colton while good in sports was also good in the classroom. His overall ACT score of thirty-three put him in the upper ninety-eight percent of all the students taking that exam. He planned to major in accounting and minor in management, but he didn’t want to become an accountant or a CPA. Colton thought having extensive accounting knowledge would be a big help to him in the business world.

At UT, he quickly learned that the football team had many gifted athletes. That was why UT produced a perennial top-ten-ranked football team every year. It wasn’t till his junior year that he became a starter on the team. His senior year playing in the tailback position was his best year and earned him second-team All-American honors.

While Colt excelled in sports, because of his popularity he also enjoyed a good social life as it pertained to members of the opposite sex. He had lost his virginity in his junior year in high school to Tammy Casper. It happened after a school dance when he took her back home. Her parents were away for the weekend, visiting her older brother at school.

Tammy was the instigator of them becoming amorous and going all the way to having intercourse. She was the one who pulled down his pants zipper to start the ball rolling. When his hand slipped beneath her dress, she removed her panties to make it easier for Colt to do his exploring. When he was between her legs, she told him not to cum in her and he should pull out when he was going to cum. She said she didn’t want to get pregnant. Thinking later about his being with Tammy, Colt thought that her doing this was because she wanted to claim him as a trophy.

Colt had more dates with Tammy, but he also dated other girls during his remaining year in high school. It was no problem for him to have these dates, but most would end with some kissy face and petting. The exception to that was Margie Badger, the captain of the cheerleaders. She let Colt have his wicked ways with her after the Senior Prom. When they left the dance, he was able to use the condom he carried in his wallet. Later, he thought he should have been carrying more condoms as Margie told him she enjoyed what they were doing.

Colt going to UT ended his relationship with Margie. The summer before he left for UT gave him pleasant memories of his being with her and their intimate relationship. He later heard that Margie in her second year of college became pregnant and married.

Most of Colt’s time at UT was spent with the football team or studying for his classes. He did find time to become involved with a few attractive coeds. Many good-looking co-eds attended UT, with Farrah Fawcett being one of the more famous ones. Farrah, however, was not the only good-looking coed there by far.

Colt was able to date several young ladies. His success on the football team increased his popularity, and that helped him in socializing with the coeds.

Rita Holmes was one coed he became involved with in his senior year. She was president of her sorority and an accounting major. He spent several nights with her in her off-campus apartment doing the nasty. It seemed to him that she enjoyed having sex as much as Colt did. He thought she was the one for him, the girl he would marry. Those thoughts ended when he discovered she was dating other fellows when the football team had an away game.

Just as Colt was successful in playing football, he also was successful in the classroom. His grade point average was in the top ten percent. He enjoyed his classes and the time spent talking with his professors. They seemed surprised that a football player would be an excellent student with a high grade point average. Colton still exchanges Christmas cards with a few of his former professors.

At close to the end of his senior year at UT, Colt needed to decide if he wanted to accept any of the job offers he received or to play football for the Denver Broncos. In the late third round of the NFL draft, the Broncos selected him. The difference in compensation between the job offers and playing professional football was the deciding factor that caused him to accept the Bronco’s offer.

Before he was to report to the Bronco’s camp, Colton took the CPA exam just to see if he could pass it. He did and was awarded that designation he still maintains.

At the Bronco’s training camp, he discovered that while playing football in college was a business, it was even more of a business playing professional football. Colt never did become a starter on the Broncos, but he became a backup halfback. He would get playing time when one of the starters needed a breather or was injured. That was fine with him, as the money he made for this “subbing,” was much more than he could make working a regular nine-to-five job.
