Humans are dangerous or not.
Writing prompt: Humans are good for your cubs/larvae/eggs. Too good. You might want to keep them close ... Or really far.
The village is never going to be the same again, thought Shoastyx. Those humans can’t be trusted and they will drop our property prices because beings will not want to buy close to a Human family. Everyone knows how violent that are.
Six months later, Shoastyx was of a different mind set about the humans and especially their middle spawn. Sally was the name of their middle spawn and she was frightening because she was so tall, almost as tall as her spawn parents.
Shoastyx was in a quandary, she had to get her youngest three spawnlings to the medical center but she couldn’t take the rest of them because she didn’t want to run the risk of them contracting the infection as well. She had been worried sick herself about her batch of spawnlings being all infected and had seperated them to prevent it but now it had gotten worse and there was nothing she could do but get the sick ones to the medics.
But she had no one she could trust to look after her other spawnlings while she traveled the 2 hours there and back with a bunch of sick spawnlings. She was beside herself with worry and this is how Sally found her.
Sally asked why Shoastyx was so worried and wailing to herself and she called her Spawn mother to come and talk.
Miranda came over and tried to calm Shoastyx down and find out the problem and within a couple minutes was able to determine the problem and then propose a ‘solution’. Sally could ‘babysit’ the spawnlings while Shoastyx was away at the medics.
Shoastyx was flabbergasted that a human would suggest that their spawn would look after the spawnlings of another family not related to them and think it was normal to do so. But as Miranda explained, this was something that most human spawn would do as a part of growing up and Shoastyx was so desperate that she had no choice but to agree. Miranda tried to reassure her by saying she would be within calling distance in an emergency, but that didn’t help much.
So Shoastyx bundled her sick spawnlings up in their carrier and set out to the medical center in the next village over. She looked back at Sally who was waving at her with the rest of her spawnlings clustered at her feet and looking up at Sally in awe. Somehow they weren’t frightened and were more astounded at such a large xenos. Shoastyx was not happy but needs must.
The visit to the medical center went well and her spawnlings were quickly treated and all well. Shoastyx was almost home with them when she looked out the window of the coach and saw a bunch of spawnlings, her spawnlings. She was stunned to see them following Sally as she marched along. Her spawnlings were singing as they followed Sally.
