Daughter of the dragons

Writing Prompt:

“So I’m half-dragon on my dad’s side.”
“What about your mom’s side?”
“Half another dragon.”
“Two halves dragon? Wouldn’t that just make you a whole dragon?”
“Ohohoho, you would think so, wouldn’t you?!”

I was wondering why Lysander was a bit upset after our latest science class where we went through genetics and how we got half our DNA from each parent and they combine to produce us.

I decided to buy her a cold drink and sit down and talk to her. She’s always been a good listener so I can only be the same for her when she is so obviously down now.

“Hi Lys, here’s a drink. Want to sit and tell me why you are feeling so down today? Professor Krash’its class isn’t that bad surely?”

“Oh Hi George. No it isn’t the class itself, it’s what we learnt in class. All that DNA stuff just brought back bad memories and I just feel down because of them.”

“Oh family stuff hey? Yeah I know a bit about that. Want to swap stories about how your family has so many expectations about what you will grow up to be and you know that you will never be able to meet them?”

Oh boy. That must have been the wrong thing to say. Lysander just burst out crying and now here I am with one of the most beautiful girls in school hanging on me and crying her eyes out and with everyone looking at me.

“Lys, I’m sorry. I don’t know how what I said hurt you but I didn’t mean it. Now please stop crying or I will have to kiss you because if I don’t do something soon I am going to suffer the wrath of all the girls who are staring daggers at me.

At this she started laughing. “Yeah I think I could do with a kiss and coming from you that would be fine George.”

Oh boy, I opened my mouth again and put both feet inside this time. Oh well, in for a penny, in for a pound.

I gentled reached over and tilted Lys’s face up and gave her a gentle kiss while trying to apologise for my clumsy words. It seemed to work as she stopped crying and gave a little sigh. Maybe I did something good for a change.

“So Lys, are you feeling a bit better and able to explain to this silly human boy exactly what I stuck my foot in with what I said?”

“Oh George, it wasn’t really your fault, it’s just what I have to deal with being the youngest daughter of two Dragons.”

“Dragons? Excuse me but I seem to be unable to see a sexy little tail when you are walking around, so how is it you are the daughter of two dragons and don’t have one of those?”

Lys giggled this time so maybe my slip of the tongue flew past her.

“Well to be precise, my father is a half-dragon and my mother is a half-dragon and I am their youngest daughter.”

“Wait. Shouldn’t the offspring of two half-dragons be a dragon? Oh wait, DNA combinations, class today ... Oh crap. You mean?”

“Yeah. My eldest brother is a full dragon. He got both sets of dragon DNA from dad and mom. My sister and youngest brother are both half-dragons for their combinations of DNA from the parents. And me; well I got the human half from dad and the human half of mom. I’m just a human born to two half-dragons and the expectations I had when I was born before they found out that I lost the genetic lottery was just too much.”

“I don’t know that you lost any genetic lottery Lysander. You are beautiful and smart and sexy and am I really running my mouth off like that and putting my foot in it again?” I said with a blush.

Lysander just looked at me with a blush of her own. “We will have to walk of that a bit more George but right now I think I will kiss you for being the doofus you always are and for being my friend.”
