Hero and Villains
Writing prompt: You live in a world with superheroes and supervillains but you are a sort of judge and executioner like when too much damage happens because of a person, may them be a hero or villain, you kill them.
I look on at the destruction that was done through the city and I weep. I can feel each and every lost life and injury caused by the fight between the hero and the supervillain and I don’t know who did the most damage or cost more lives, but today is the last time.
With a thought I cast a field of force around both of them and bring them to my place of observation. I am not yet ready to listen to their blathering. I am too angry at both of them to be talking calmly. I still have a job to do.
My next act is to cast a thought of healing to each and every spark of consciousness I can detect and then protection so my healing won’t be wasted. Once they are healed, I bring each and every one of them to my location to stand in judgement.
Once they are here, I have a gruesome job to do but it has to be done. With a weary wave of my arm I find each and every body of the innocent victims and bring what remains to me. The bodies and parts of bodies are lined up in front of the crowd of victims and where the ‘hero’ and ‘supervillain’ can see them.
I weep for the small bodies who lay there and had no idea what was going to happen to them. My anger grows but I have to keep it under control. I know what I am capable of and I will never let it happen. This is my promise to the people of this world.
I walk between the bodies and weep and my tears fall as I touch each one in passing and murmur ‘I am sorry little one.’ My anger is still there and my self-control has to fight to keep it contained. Letting it out will not help anyone and would make things oh so much worse.
At the end of the line, the smallest body is the most heart breaking and I now know I can do what I have to do.
I turn to the hero and villain and allow their voices to be heard.
“Why are you doing this? I am the Sunknight and I was stopping that bastard over there from robbing the banks in this city. Why have you locked me up?” was shouted by the hero.
“Who are you? How are you doing this? What are you going to do? Are you working with that idiot Sunknight?” came the reply of his nemesis.
“SILENCE. You two have been brought here for adjudication and sentencing. Your crimes have finally forced me to act and these people are going to witness it all.” I shouted in reply.
A simple thought caused them to be quiet so everyone could hear.
“You have been caught in the aftermath of your fight in this city where you did not spare a single thought for the safety of the people who lived here. You attacked each other without sparing a single thought to the damage you caused or the lives you took. Your hatred for each other blinded you to everything around you but no more.”
A thought had everyone focused on the dead laid out in front of us all and in the background the wide swath of destruction through their city.
