Human Weaponry Is Insane

Writing prompt:

The dropship came blazing down from orbit and headed towards a human colony. The target was not expecting any visitors and that is how the pirates liked things to go.

The humans were not seen as a threat because there was no military presence detected or known about for quite a distance. And with a town of roughly only 14,700 humans made up of farmers and artisans, it wouldn’t be too much of a problem to drop in, collect as much tech loot as they could grab and have some fun with the locals.

But things didn’t go the way the captain thought it would when the dropship flared out to cancel their velocity and to select a good landing spot so the raiders could get to work.

They were hovering on thrusters looking for a good spot and seeing the humans panicking on the ground when there was a sudden collection of impacts and bangs and one of the thrusters blew apart.

The dropship was instantly off balance and started to fall towards the ground and the impacts and bangs continued and the captain caught a glance of a crowd of humans pointing some type of weapons towards the dropship and clouds of smoke were appearing from their weapons.

The impact of the dropship hitting the ground was severe and caused a lot of damage with thrusters being torn off, explosions of fuel and part of the tail being torn away leaving a gaping hole into the interior.

The raiders lost almost 1/4 of their crew just from the crash and things didn’t improve afterwards.

As the dropship settled, the captain ordered all remaining crew to escape out of the wreckage and to form up in a defensive perimeter until he could work out what had happened.

The raiders saw a small wooded area close by and started to head towards it but as they moved that way, clouds of smoke appeared and bangs were heard as individuals started to be ripped to shreds from impacts of some type.

A ragged line of humans started to advance out of the woods and firing their weapons towards the raiders and as they did so, more and more raiders dropped, dead or just severely injured.

The weapons of the humans were firing projectiles capable of taking out semi-armored raiders, let alone unarmored ones. And then the humans from the town arrived and started firing their weapons at the remaining raiders.

Being shot at from two different directions broke the morale of the remaining raiders and they started running back towards the wreckage of the dropship. That was the only possible protection they could see and for the human’s weapons, it wasn’t enough.

As the raiders climbed back inside the dropship, fire and smoke still billowing from it, the humans started firing at it and the armor of the ship was just not enough to handle the projectiles the humans were firing. They were ripping through the sides of the dropship and into the raiders or equipment of the ship.

And then one of the projectiles hit a tank of the remaining fuel and ignited it. The blast tore the dropship into ragged sections and killed everyone huddled inside it.

This stopped the shooting as the humans looked on in glee. Now all the had to do was clean up the wounded and dead and deal with the fiery, smoking wreckage.

The raider’s ship in orbit with the remaining skeleton crew couldn’t do anything without their captain and crew, so they broke orbit and went running away home.

They won’t be back because a human colony that could destroy a dropship like that must be a military outpost in disguise and no one wanted to deal with that again.
