Storm the Gates of Hell
Writing prompt: Your best friend always told you that they would storm the Gates of Hell itself for you if it came to it, you always assumed it wasn’t a serious remark, until you died and found yourself in Hell.
So I guess I am dead. And to make things just that bit worse, the flames, screams and horrors with all the pointy objects appear to be demons and that suggests I am in hell.
Well at least the only part I am familiar with is that I am waiting in a long ass line that snakes off into the distance and I have a lot of company in the line. Lines I mean because now I see there are others on either side and maybe more beyond them.
“So are we really in hell mate?” I ask the guy in front of me.
He turns around and dejectedly says “What does it look like? Are you trying to make a joke?”
“No, I just ask because I am just waiting. And it shouldn’t be long now.”
He looks at me and asks “Waiting for what? There is nothing to wait for besides moving forwards to the front of the line.”
“Oh, it shouldn’t be long now.” I say, looking at my watch that I still have on my wrist. “In fact it should be happening any minute now.”
He looked at me and then looked around as a massive clang rang through the space we were in. Everyone around us also looked around in shock as the clang rang out again.
Murmuring started to rise as people were trying to work out what was happening. The demons who were scattered around were looking around in confusion and then another, even louder clang rang out. This time it was followed by a massive explosion and then a final earth shattering clang as if a pair of massive gates had been blown off their hinges and fell to the ground.
