Chapter 71

Study Group
Pretentious and misanthropic
I sit on the unrivaled green
Shaded by familiar oaks and elms
Not alone, but not together
Separated from the group by a strawberry
Scented tangent drifting across the field
I barely notice the change in topic
My thoughts are thankfully unseen
A rainy girl is at the helm
Guiding to me via tether
To paths slightly more merry
Than those to which my companions yield
My shaded eyes scan for the source
Of this strawberry scent
But sadly so little insight
Is offered
As I provide a closing word
To Macduff’s plight
Through my mind has went
My body stays the course
Into this Shakespearean dog
Searching for my subject
Among the fog
Of ignorance to which I normally object
But I have a little to value
Much less condemn
As I learn what Hal knew
Blaming my lack of REM
Generally jovial in my pensiveness
None of my plans had given this
On an unrivaled green
The source of strawberry
Remaining unseen
I have no words to parry
There accusations
Love is not a pleasant condition
But I’m incapable of condemnation
Much less there required supposition
