Chapter 2 A moment to breathe

Incredulous at the look in your eyes
I know the way you’ve suffered
And I’ve done my best to be kind
The way no one else has been
I’m afraid to grip too tightly
Afraid to let go, to improvise
Dreaming you into form buffered
Enjoying pure piece of mind
And a wealth of sin
As you kiss so politely
Letting myself breathe
For the first time in how long
Feeling wrong the way you want me
I don’t know if I can be
What you truly need
Gone and someday to return
Never more than a reprieve
From the way of the world’s wrong
Bearing down upon you and me
Through soft touch you plead
For me to let you burn
But you have other desires
And I can fulfill those
Temporarily cut your wires
Be free, my little rose
I sit and inhale the cold river air
Knowing you haven’t gone
Hiding playing some game
Comprising me isn’t fair
I really should be done
Should take the blame
But you plead
And I must concede
I’ll hold this breath
However long it takes
Fragile this clarity
Slipping away even as I reach it
I know this will end as it must
Hopefully you’ll share with me
Whatever benefit
You gain from my trust
In your gaze, in your eyes
And the feeling they imply
