Chapter 1

“It’s going to be okay. You weren’t the only nine in the village, though you two were the talk of a few. Twin Leviathans, how crazy is that.” Nye tried to sound upbeat, but Evie growled at him, putting a lid on anymore conversation. Ahead they could hear orders being barked, the wheels going from stone to wood. Evie poked her head out of the wagon, ducking back in to bump against Eric.

“We’re going over a bridge.” Nye bit his lip, Eric confused while Evie looked scared.

“It’s the only way to get to the school where Dad was trained, remember? He used to tell stories of the school when you were little before he died.” Eric nodded but Evie kept glaring at the wall, half expecting it to burst into flames.

“It’s not fair. We should be home arguing over who gets to pick dinner, not going to some school to fight for a king just like dad and what, die like him?” Nye sighed as Evie turned that glare on him but held strong, he was her big brother. Nothing shook him.

“it’s going to be just fine. This is just a precaution because of the threat up north. Once the more experienced Leviathans neutralize it, we’ll be on our way home.”
