Chapter 2

With Liz having gone back north, Ron started to think about doing the items that were on the to-do list. The more he thought about it, the more he thought he would contact Rhonda Rimes, the painter that Stan had mentioned.

Ron spoke with Rhonda over the phone and indicated the rooms he wanted to be painted. She was familiar with the homes in this development. She did some figuring and told him that if he purchased the paint, what she would charge for doing the painting. It was a no-brainer for Ron to ask her when she could start doing this painting. She gave him a date of the coming Monday when she would start. That afternoon Ron drove to Home Depot to purchase the paint With one job taken care of Ron went to the pro shop to get some information about the upcoming golf tournaments. He signed up for the next tournament which was a mixed four-person two-best net lowball tournament. He showed an assistant golf pro his card that had his current golf index. The pro made note of it and told him that his membership included a golf handicapping service. He also explained how Ron can use the PC in the pro shop to post his non-tournament scores since they would post his tournament scores.

Going back to his home, Ron knew golfing in tournaments was one way to meet people. He wondered who he would be paired with in this golf tournament.

The following day he scratched one more job off his to-do list when he drove to Costco and purchased a sixty-five-inch flat-screen television. This television didn’t need to be wall mounted and would fit nicely on top of the TV center stand replacing the thirty-two-inch television there. This older television would be in the master bedroom.

By the number of golf carts Ron saw that were lined up for this golf tournament’s shotgun start, they indicated that it was a good turnout. Ron found his golf cart and placed his golf bag on it. These golf clubs were the ones he had purchased the day before. Arriving a little early, he had time to hit a few balls with these golf clubs on the driving range and practice his putting. He felt a little uncomfortable with the putter that came with this set of used clubs.

Looking at the golfers who were there as he was getting ready, Ron could see that most of them were of the senior citizen type. That was to be expected since the warm winter weather attracted many older people to Florida. Laughing to himself he thought he was also in that category.

Ron was putting away the sun tan lotion when a man Ron’s age along with two ladies walked up and said they were golfing with him. They introduced themselves as Diane and Bob Atkins, and Gwen Bradley. They seemed like nice and friendly people. The ladies would be in a cart riding together and Bob was going to be riding with Ron.

It was an interesting round of golf. Ron posted a score of eighty-nine and thought he could lower his score when he became more familiar with the golf course and with his putter. Bob’s score was two strokes less. The ladies’ scores were in the one hundred and teens.

During the round, Bob mentioned several things Ron found to be interesting. Besides commenting on the golf courses in the area and places for dining, he made a few comments about Gwen. He said that Gwen’s husband is a pathologist who is a workaholic and prefers to work at a hospital in Athens, Ohio rather than be in the warm weather here. Gwen’s husband comes down here for two weeks and then goes back for two weeks to work. Ron thought it was somewhat of a similar arrangement that he has with Liz.

With the golf round over and while waiting for the tournament results to be announced, they were sitting by tables with umbrellas on the large patio having drinks. Ron was fairly sure their team score had eliminated them from any tournament prizes.

Ron gave a good look to Gwen who appeared to be a few years younger than him. She had a nice figure but you wouldn’t consider her to be drop-dead gorgeous. Then again as the saying goes, “She was someone you wouldn’t kick out of bed either.”

In going back to his home after the winners were announced, Ron acknowledged to himself that he had an enjoyable time. He thought he would sign up for the next tournament along with playing more golf. He knew that he needed to spend time practicing his putting on the putting green.

The following day he was able to scratch another job off his to-do list. This he accomplished by going to Home Depot and ordering a granite countertop for the kitchen along with one for the bathroom. Arrangements were made for a man to come out to measure the counters and Ron was told where to go to select the slab of granite he wanted.

After Ron made his granite selection, he went back to his home and then to the golf course. At the golf course, he first hit a few golf balls at the driving range along with spending time on the putting green.

On Friday after doing a phone call with Liz, Ron went to the clubhouse as this was the seafood buffet night. Since he was early, Ron had no problem being seated at a table but a short time later he noticed there was a good crowd here and most of the tables appeared to be occupied.

Ron was eating when he heard, “Mind if I join you?”

Looking up he saw that it was Gwen who was asking that question. “No, please do,” he said pointing to the empty chair.

She thanked him and said coming here and dining as a single is always a little uncomfortable for her. He acknowledged her saying that and said that he felt the same way.

In between his going back to the buffet table, he had a pleasant conversation with Gwen. She talked a little about her life and the area, as well as asking questions about Ron. When the meal was over and they could see people were looking for places to sit, Ron asked her if he could buy her a drink in the lounge. With a smile on her face, she said he could.

There was more conversation in the lounge with Ron sensing that Gwen was not a happy camper. From what she was saying, he couldn’t help but feel the relationship she had with her husband wasn’t the greatest. That her husband wasn’t spending time here with her could be part of that, but it could also be that he was fourteen years older than her. Maybe there was a lack in the sexual aspect of her marriage which could be why Ron sensed something was wrong.

After finishing their drinks they both rose to leave. In the parking lot, they acknowledged they had a good time. Gwen mentioned she would like to do something like this again.

Later, in thinking about Gwen, Ron thought she was vulnerable and there was the possibility that he could develop a sexual relationship with her if he wanted one. During his marriage, Ron had strayed twice. Once was with a female dentist at a dental conference and the second time was with a dental supply representative who was from Kansas City.

The dentist at the conference that Ron was briefly involved with was Linda Gordon who was married and lived in Dallas, Texas. She was fairly attractive and had what Ron would say was a dual personality. When she was in the company of a few people she acted like she was a “holy-roller” and wouldn’t say much. She wouldn’t laugh at any off-color jokes and would just stare at the person who told the joke. That was one of her personalities.

The other personality Ron discovered was when he invited her into his hotel room for a drink as they after dinner were walking to their rooms. Her room happened to be directly across the hall from Ron’s room. In handing her a drink he noticed that a few of her blouse buttons had in some way become unbuttoned which enabled him to see the top of her white bra. That progressed to her taking a seat on the bed close to Ron with her hand every so often touching him on his thigh as they were talking.

It further progressed after she rose to put her empty glass down on the dresser that she came back to Ron who was sitting on the bed. She, without any warning put her arms over his shoulders and bent to give him one long mouth kiss with plenty of tongue action. Ron’s surprise at her doing this didn’t last long. His arms went around her and he twisted to where she was lying and the bed and he was returning her kiss. The kissing continued but after a while, one of Ron’s hands moved down to rub her very special place. With no objection being voiced from Linda, his hand released the tab on her slacks, pulled down the zipper, and slipped into the top of her pants and panties to caress her clit.

This caressing he was doing lasted for a while but Linda in ending a kiss said, “Let’s let out of clothes and do this right.”

He echoed her sentiments and they both stood to undress.

Linda was first to completely undress and she lay on the bed with her legs slightly spread enabling him to admire her nice body. He couldn’t help but notice that was an absence of pubic hair which caused him to think she was just full of surprises. She continued to surprise him when she told Ron as he was undressing that she was wet and ready for him.
