The Mighty Heroes

[Warning: Onion Ninjas ahead.]

In the various Heavens, Valhalla’s, Utopia’s or Elysium’s or whatever they get called, there is a building, if something so large can be called that small a word. It’s size seems to be as large as the world on the inside but outside you can walk around it in a few hours.

This is the Hall of Heroes. It exists in many places all at the same time and it’s sole existence is to shelter the small number of beings who fit the qualifications required to be granted entry.

The building is as loud and noisy as it always is on this ‘day’ that never ends. Inside there are countless tables surrounded by even more chairs, benches and stools of many various materials and makes, from crude rock to carved timbers to elegant metals and gems to even chairs made of elemental forces like light, darkness, fire, and void, for those with a more PTSD mind frame.

On the walls and scattered about are vast viewing devices, imaging frames and portals to show scenes of various worlds and realms where many different species and beings are locked in combat and winning, losing or just keeping to a draw. The crowds of viewers cheer, boo or encourage the beings they are watching in their fights constantly.

When a fight is won, the cheers are echoing to the ceiling, and all celebrate but when a fight is lost the cheers die out but a rumble of resolve is heard. There are way too many rumbles heard on some ‘days’ than others but they keep watching for the Heroes.

On many of the viewing devices and portals, there are the expected fights between beings and their enemies and the crowds watching cheer on for both sides more often than not. Heroes don’t just exist on one side, and everyone here knows that, so they cheer on for the Heroes who fight for not just survival, though there is that, but for others.

For friends, family, comrades, their tribe, city, country, planet or empire. Heroes fight for them all and sometimes they win, often they lose, because being a Hero is not a guarantee of winning every fight. It’s just that you fight against all odds.

In the center of this building there is a vast pavilion gilded in golden light. It is the most respected area for only the most valiant Heroes who fought the hardest fights and lost despite expending all their strength, fortitude and valor. Their desperation was always visible when they fought and their courage could shame the strongest being who ever boasted of their strength to their world.

Because a Hero is not always the strongest physically. But they are the strongest mentally. They don’t give up when everyone else has. They fight to the end and when they see their end in sight, and they know they have given their all, they are brought here to rest and relax with their chosen companions who also fought like they did.
