Chapter 25
“This is where it happened, she tried to kill us, you especially. I can’t go through that again, I can’t, John. It, it was right before mom and dad were,” Here she stopped and feel to her knees.
I tried to hold her though she pushed me away. She then realized what she’d done and grabbed me as tight as she could. It took all I could to get her to ease up on my ribs.
“Catherine,” I spoke to my sister. “We are a hell of a lot more powerful now than we were then. Unfortunately, we are supposed to be here not only to save ourselves, but everything.”
“Why can’t we stop,” she started, though I shook my head no. “Why? I say that we.”
Here I stopped her, “We can’t, if we do, then it will end how we are now. Plus, I wouldn’t have gone into the military. A lot more would be dead had I not, plus I’d never met Catherine and Cythina.”
Both of them giggled, nodded before they both bristled. They were both looking at a tall, long blond female that was floating off the ground.
“Just who are you?” her voice said behind me as I turned.
She was smiling, though not friendly, “shit,” I whispered to my Jinns, “It’s Tawny.”
“Who is she?” Catherine asked.
“Our Aunt’s Jinn,” I whispered back.
“Oh shit is right,” Cythina said.
“I felt you approaching the house, then you suddenly left. You’re a hell of a lot stronger than me so,” it was at that moment that Tawny saw mine, then my sister’s faces. Then the real shock, she felt the Jinn and mage power flowing off me. The worst, though, was my two Jinns’ hands that were glowing intensely.
I put a hand on both of them quelling their desire to destroy Tawny. “Before you start, yes, I am John, and this is my sister Catherine.”
Tawny’s mouth dropped open, “But the two of you are just children. I also felt mage power, had I not, I would not have come here,” she said.
I sighed as I concentrated and moved all of us a great distance away. Tawny and both my Jinn’s mouths were hanging open. “That’s impossible,” Tawny said.
All three started to bow to me as I stopped them, “Stop that, god! I am not the great Jinn though, I have met him and it was not a fun experience. I am not a grand arch mage though, I have that much power.” I then pointed to Catherine, “My sister and I have no power unless we touch. That also can be unpleasant.”
This, of course, had my sister giggling, “It wasn’t my fault you tried to pull in too much. That’s why you smacked into the tree.”
I stared daggers at her, “like I could remember what to do. Besides, I was worried about all of you.”
“Says you, acting as if you have no emotions,” she started to yell.
“Look how long I thought you were dead, I stopped caring about life, every fucking thing. I just wanted it to end,” I shouted back, then I turned away, the tears that hadn’t fallen all those years finally did.
I collapsed as the damn feeling returned again. I got up and started to walk away as my sister and my Jinn’s started after me.
It took all three of them to tackle me, and I was still fighting to get free. “Let me the fuck go, I deserve to die. I let her down, I let them all down.”
All the barriers that I had erected, all the walls, crumbled after all that had happened. I felt that Catherine had rejected me and now, I truly had nothing left.
“Why John, I’m right here, why do you want to die?” Catherine said tears on her face. “I love you John, please, don’t leave me, please.”
That one word, cut through all the pain, all the self-loathing. I stopped suddenly as I turned and stared at her perfectly smooth skin, her sandy blond hair, the tears. What I had heard I had longed to hear for so long.
“I lost you. I left thinking you had died, no one told me a damn thing, so I left,” I said, then turned to look at Tawny. “What is the date and year today?” I asked.
I turned pale as soon as she said, then I saw that Catherine had also. She was shaking her head as she repeated, “I can’t do that again, John, I can’t.”
I nodded as I held her close, “It won’t be us that are being chased, we’re going to end this that way, it won’t happen again. Once she appears she’s going to be hard put to do much.”
Tawny could only stare at us as we started to discuss plans for the attack that was coming. “Though Audgra is locked away, at this time, she’s still free.”
Tawny was going from one to another, wondering what was going on. I wasn’t sure if I could actually trust her with the truth.
It was not long after that I noticed that things felt a little different. I needed to make sure that we were able to do what I knew needed to happen.
It was a few hours later that we decided on what course of action we needed to take. I also found out that we were further back than I had thought.
It was going to be more like fifteen and not five years. I sighed as the wait would almost be torture for me.
At least I thought we’d have to wait until more of the ex-guard’s people attacked us. As I had done before, I tried to stun them to see if I could turn them good.
The main thing that concerned me was the fact that the ass had even more than before. Here I thought that those that opposed him outnumbered him.
I had managed to get through a few hundred when he showed up again. “I have you now,” he shouted with glee. “Even with those that you have turned, I still have the advantage over you.”
I could only shake my head, you know,” I said, looking at him with pity. “As many plans as you have had and tried. As many times that I have beat you, you’d think that you’d have learned.” Here I sighed,” Guess you’re going to die after you lose all your power.”
I made several motions as I saw what little he had left. I reached out and took ahold of almost all I could see and yanked as hard as I could.
I thought that would be the end of it as almost all the power he had ripped loose. Those that were helping him started to appear far faster than I could take them.
Then something happened that I hadn’t expected. All four of us flashed out to them all yelling. When we appeared we were in almost the same place as before.
I was about to move us again, before, “You’re back,” a familiar voice said. I closed my eyes as I shook my head, damnit.
I turned to stare at Tawny, all I could do was nod. “That was the first time that it happened without us trying to move.”
Tawny just nodded her head, “I have kept all that was before from all,” she said. Then she looked up and frowned, “Though I am sure that the council knew and knows, like they always seem to do. No love lost there with them and my mistress.”
I nodded, “Yes, I’ve had dealings with them before, as I have learned the ever last master has. As I remember, he’s not too happy with them either.”
Tawny’s eyes got large. “By the great Jinn, he’s real? Like most, I have always thought that he was a myth. I mean really that much power? No.”
I shook my head, “No, he’s real, bout as strong as me. Got into a fight with him. I wasn’t really impressed.”
A moment later, several flashes appeared near us. Jake and about seven female and two male Jinns appeared.
Jake shook his head with a smile, “Not nice to talk about us when we can’t defend ourselves.”
I smiled as I looked at him and his apparently pissed off Jinns. “Not nice sure, but a hell of a lot easier.”
“So where are we?” Jake asked, pointing to the houses.
“Near my Aunt’s house, that field is where things came to a head. Also, where my other Aunt and a number of dead and mages tried to kill us. Not a real red letter day for sure,” I said.
“What of the dark Jinn? What was his name? Oh, yeah, Elvantor Hajib or was it Elephant Jibby as you started calling him?” Jake asked.
“Last I saw him, he was in several pieces, a lot of pain and I assume running from me. I was hoping getting sliced in half, that he’d give up,” I said, then sighed. “I’m afraid that my luck isn’t that good, I am afraid.”
Jake nodded as his Jinns and the Princess and Princes were staring at us with their mouths open. Jake closed all of the female’s mouths as the Princess did her brothers.
Jake and I sat to discuss what would be happening soon and basically what we could and couldn’t do. We both knew that we couldn’t stop it from starting. To do that, would mean that Catherine and me, as we were, would disappear.
Both Catherine and I were as heartbroken as could be as over the week as it passed, we saw our parents. It was harder than I thought it would be as I had to hold Catherine back numerous times.
Another irritating thing was that, even as a young teen, I could barely remember anything that had happened. I only remember the violence, Aunts Audgra mand Victoria.
I had thought that Victoria had been the bad one, as I remember she was there when Catherine was taken from me. I was just starting to remember the amount of extreme pain that I had been in also.
So much was missing from our memories that it was hard to believe that it had happened. Another thing that seemed to be vacant from my mind was, who in the hell had taken Catherine from me?
Everything about the memories were seemingly jumbled. Because it seemed not long after that, we were together with mom and dad, then they died a few days later.
I shook my head to try and clear it, though I felt like there was a block in my mind. That day, Jake and I had all our Jinns in position. A few hours later, I felt what had to be well over a thousand mages approaching.
From another direction, I felt more than a few hundred Jinns approaching. I shook my head. I hadn’t known that there had been that many.
