Chapter 22
Another spokesman stepped forward, “Playtime’s over, old man,” he said, then rudely started to fire bolts at me as did the others.
I finally got tired of it and released a blast of energy that knocked all but the spokesman out. Hmmm, I thought this one actually had a little power.
“You know, in all the time I have been putting all of you pathetic mages away, you’re the first with an inkling of power. Too bad it’s weak also,” I said.
I could see that this had angered him as he started to fling all that he could at me. I felt another behind me. I guess I didn’t have shields behind me.
I knocked out the one in front of me, then turned to fire at the ex-leader mage as he vanished. I heard a satisfying scream as he completely vanished.
It was then that I heard a tsking. Just off the ground floating before me was Hajib.
“Hello, you who are about to be a loser,” Hajib said. It was then that I noticed the entire hillside in front of me covered with undead troops.
I smiled as I swung at Hajib, he screamed as the energy from the sword cut him. I shook my head as I swung once at the undead, taking about a hundred out. Both Cythina and Catherine had us falling forward before I could raise a hand.
I silently cursed as my power fizzled out as we fell forward. I felt that I had Hajib on the ropes having cut him again.
I wasn’t about to complain, as we were, for the moment, a hell of a lot safer. This time we were moving slower though a good amount of time passed.
This time, when we stopped and dropped out, it was near a battle. The sound of the explosions were far different than I was used to.
Damnit, I thought, that artillery was far slower and seemed to not have the distance of modern explosives. We were a great distance from where the sound of battle was, so we eased closer.
I was shocked to see a river and lake with what appeared to be a wooden fort next to it. I shook my head, it was hard to know exactly where and when we were.
I could see that the fort held blue-jacketed troops. Though the more I looked all around it, on the hills were red-jacketed troops in formations.
I started to move us away from all that was happening, when we were met by several of the red-jacketed troops. Fuck I thought, even with the ancient-looking rifles I felt we were screwed.
“Oy! What ‘ave we here?” The obvious leader said. “Looks like volunteers for the campaign,” the leader said as they all pointed their guns at us. “Let’s go.”
At least they were ‘til I started to get angry. I refused to move, as did my Jinns and sister. “I don’t think so,” I growled at them.
“Oh, look, we got a bear, now move!” the leader shouted.
“No,” I growled again as I put both my hands in front of me. “NO!” I shouted as a wave of energy flew from me, knocking all the men unconscious.
I blinked as I saw that all ten of the men were out. “Master?” Catherine asked, perplexed. “What did you do?”
“I’m not sure,” I said to her in shock. “Though while we have the chance, let’s get out of here before they awaken.”
Both my Jinns and my sister nodded their heads as we started to run as far as we could. I was glad that we had taken their weapons before we left.
It seemed we were moving for hours before the sounds of the artillery faded. I thought we’d have a reprieve for a bit when several magical beings appeared.
“It’s the abominations! Call the rest of the mage clans!” the leader said, then started to fire at us.
I shook my head as I thought that after all this time they had learned not to royally piss me off. I grabbed at least five of them, stripping them of their power in no time at all.
The others with them could only gap open-mouthed as their companions dropped like rocks. I then caught them as I stripped them as fast, all of them begging me to kill them.
I stared at them as if they had lost their minds. “Please,” the leader begged. “If he sees that we have failed he will kill us very slowly.”
“As weak as you are, I don’t really see why you did,” I said to them.
“We have no choice,” the mage said.
“There is always a choice,” I growled at the mage.
“No there isn’t, he’ll kill us for failing,” the mage begged.
There was a boom like a jet passing the sound barrier, then all ten of the men in front of me were just ash. “Ah, so the piece of garbage has shown up,” the ex-Egyptian mage/guard said.
He then started to fire at me with several powerful bolts, well, to him, they were. I just made a backhand motion knocking him out of the air back at least a hundred meters.
It also appeared that I broke an arm and leg of his. I just shook my head at him as he screamed and tried to fire at me again.
Quite a few of his, I guess you’d call them mage troops appeared. I made a slashing motion as over fifty fell dead.
I grabbed the mage that was truly leading them. Drawing him to my face, the idiot was still trying to attack me.
I shook him, “You have to be the biggest moron that I have seen in a long time. You seem too stupid to know,” was as far as I got before a yelling scream, then he was snatched out of my hand.
I looked at the back of Hajib as he was moving away from me with the leader. “Oh look,” I sneered as he turned back. “It’s the jibbering idiot! As many as the both of you have lost, you’d think that the two of you would have learned.”
“Learned? Only that you are a pathetic weakling!” Hajib jeered at me.
“Really,” I said, “gee, I don’t need at least a hundred to attack with. If any of us are weak? It’s the two of you attacking the way you are.” I then laughed at them.
I was suddenly grabbed as I sent several blasts at the two as they dived for the ground. This was fortuitous as I caught the rest of the undead and mages that were there.
I was suddenly feeling that I was falling forward. I knew that my sister and Jinns had us moving again. After only a few moments, we appeared in almost the same place.
This time I wasn’t going to wait as I started to power up. I released them as soon as I felt them appear, taking all that were about to appear.
Hajib wasn’t far behind as I drew Felensar, I needed to end this. Hajib drew a sword almost a copy of mine, though it glowed a deep souless black.
He quickly swung at me with an evil grin on his face. A grin that faded even faster as his strike was met and overpowered in seconds.
“NO! It isn’t possible!” I had swung as he was shouting at me, catching the same arm this time and slicing it off his body.
“You will pay for this,” Hajib shouted as he reached for his severed arm. He caught my next rapid strike as he lost both legs this time.
With another scream, he vanished again. “You should give up, it appears you are too weak.”
“Never!” came his voice from the air. “I will defeat you!”
I sighed as all feel of him was completely gone. “Damn,” I said, “nothing seems to rid us of this ass.”
All three of the females agreed with me as I looked around expecting more to appear. A moment later, we were going forward again, though as I expected, we stopped less than a minute later.
At least a hundred years back, Hajib was screaming again, his undead friend was trying to heal him. “It appears that we need a new plan,” his friend said.
Hajib nearly removed the undead’s head. “How dare you start to doubt me?” I have never failed to win except when all the Jinn council turned on me. Even then they paid a price for that.”
His undead friend let out a sigh as he continued to try and heal Hajib. It was about an hour later that there was a boom even louder than the one we had heard. Hajib looked up expecting anything but what he saw.
A human male and at least five female Jinns, then three royal Jinns appeared. Looking closer, he saw that it was Amira and her brothers.
The feel of the sheer amount of power had Hajib scrambling to vanish with as many of the undead as he could. “What’s going on? “ His friend asked.
“Even with all the power I have, I can’t hope to defeat the amount of power that I felt. We need to regroup as soon as possible. I know that we can defeat this upstart before the ever last Master can interfere,” a scared Hajib said.
His undead friend nodded as they went a few years back hoping to escape. They barely made it as a now furious Jake and his Jinns started to search.
“Gen, do you feel anything?” Jake asked, his anger barely contained.
A few moments later, all his Jinns shook their heads no. “None of us can feel him here any longer,” Gen said.
“He’s far slipper than we at first thought. We need to get this evil Jinn before he can harm anymore of either realm,” Jake said.
All his Jinns nodded as they vanished into time again. A small pair of eyes were wide as they stared at the sheer amount of power that the ever last Master had.
They needed to let me and my Jinns know that a powerful master was behind us. The only problem the owner of the eyes had, was, like Jake, finding me.
Back in the Jinn realm, the council leader and Catherine’s father were watching. Things were starting to develop far faster than they thought they would.
Still, with everyone out there looking for my family and Jinns, we were in trouble. It seemed that no matter how many times I hurt him, he came back.
That and the ex-guard were making things far more dire than they needed to be. I imagine that, if I could show the proof that the ex-guard had killed the king? The mages might turn on him siding with me.
I shook my head, that was only a damn pipe dream, as I’m sure they’d never side with me. Hell, even with proof, it was going to be extremely hard.
