Chapter 3: Preparation
As Mary cleaned the house, the kids played in the front yard. I walked the property coming to a large shed on a dirt road through the woods. It was well maintained and looked as if it were fairly new. Inside I found a front loader, a small crane, several bags of cement mix. In back of the shed were 6 small cabins each with 3 bedrooms, and a combination kitchen and family room. On the kitchen table closest, to the shed were a set of plans for building fortifications. These had placements for bunkers, clay mores, and had fields of fire laid out. The guy I bought this from was expecting war. It was almost time to meet Pete, his family, and whatever friends he might bring.
My phone began to vibrate it was time for me to go into the woods above Walters cabin, watch it. In 4 hours Pete would be there. Just to be sure I would watch it tonight and make sure no one betrayed me. If it was clear I would meet them. If not I would leave and they would never know I had been there. I took my glock, the M4, and some extra magazines. Then just to be sure I got an M 79 grenade launcher, a few rounds for it, and a spotter scope. Then, I walked into the woods and towards Walt’s place. It was about 20 clicks away. If things went as I hoped I would get a ride back. If not, I would walk. I needed more people, but I could not risk a fight I was not ready for. Until I had enough of a force. I could not risk a fight. Then I snapped my finger went back to the armory and got an M72 Law. Just in case.
I entered the woods, walking slowly up the mountain where I could overlook the rendezvous sight. The day was cool and the woods were alive with the sounds of nature. The walk got me there about 2 hours before they were due to arrive. It would gave me time to prepare or a betrayal, or to render assistance to my first group of resistance fighters, or hopefully, just refugees from oppression.
