Chapter 9: Breaking Up

After those first two sessions, I’d hooked up with Kelly, Moira, Lee and Jasmine a couple of more times and had thought nothing of it. How wrong I had been about that. For some reason, I hadn’t told Fiona what was happening. That, was a big, big mistake.

When she found out Fiona was far from happy and let me know it. Since we’ve been together, she’s gradually changed the way she looks. Shortening her school skirt, so that it’s now about three-inches above her knees and her hairstyle’s different as well. She’s not cut it, just changed the way she wears it. Those changes, along with the fact that she isn’t so shy and withdrawn in class any more, have brought her to the attention of a few boys.

As they had started to hang around, I’d had to step in and had told them to back off. Fiona was my girlfriend now. Fiona looked like the happiest girl in the world when I’d done that. Now we openly walked home together from school every evening. Even holding hands as we did. I’d taken some stick over that. I was the first in my year to publicly admit to having an official full-time girlfriend.

Fiona turned up, ringing the front doorbell as soon as mum had left for work, it was as if she was waiting for mum to go out. She must be keen, I thought. Then I saw her face, she’d been crying.

“Why didn’t you tell me what you were going to do?” Fiona burst out as soon as I opened the door to her.

“What?”

“Jasmine! Simon, you’ve been fucking another girl behind my back. Why? Why would you betray me like that?”

“I’m sorry, I just didn’t think. I didn’t think it would be such a big deal.”

“Not a big deal? That you’ve been fucking another girl?”

“Only as part of our group. Lee wanted to bring her in, so that’s what’s happened. Anyway, it’s only been the two times.”

“Oh, part of the group makes it okay, does it?”

“Well yeah, that’s how things are. Isn’t it?”

“What if I went with Lee?” That’s when it hit me, I didn’t want Fiona to go with anyone else, well not another boy.

“If that’s what you want, then I’d have to accept it. Lee’s part of our group so I’d not make a fuss,” I said, not meaning it and knowing now why Fiona was so upset.

“Or Nigel? Or Tony, or Paul. There are lots of boys asking me out now. You’re not the only one who fancies me. That is if you still fancy me?”

“Nigel! Why Nigel and he’s not part of the group.”

“Neither is Jasmine.”

“She is now. Anyway, Nigel would never get to be part of our group. Moira and Kelly wouldn’t let him.”

“It’s the same thing.”

“Fiona I’m so sorry. I should have told you. I didn’t think.”

“I think I’m going to break up with you.”

“Fiona, please no. I didn’t mean to hurt you. I’m so sorry. Fiona, please don’t go with anyone else.” I was begging and pleading for forgiveness as my world came crashing down around my ears.

“I’m sorry, Simon. We’re finished.”

With that, Fiona turned her back on me and walked down the path. I could see her shoulders shaking as she sobbed. That’s when I broke down myself. Tears were running down my face as I went up to my room and slumped on the floor. Head buried in my hands, bawling my heart out. That’s how Kelly found me about half an hour later when she eventually got out of bed.

“Si, Si, what’s up? What’s happened?”

I could hardly speak, I was so upset, “Fiona’s dumped me. We’re over.”

“For fucks sake, why?”

“Me fucking Jasmine. Now Fiona’s dumped me and is talking about fucking Nigel or any other boys that want her to. And there are plenty.”

Kelly jumped into action, grabbing her phone and calling Moira. “Moi, Fi’s split up with Simon. Where is she?” Kelly was silent as Moira answered her.

“Well keep her there, I’ll be over as soon as I’ve got dressed. And for fucks sake don’t let her go out. She’s talking about fucking any boy that she meets. No, I mean it. She’s that pissed off with Simon she’s likely to do it.”

Ten minutes later, Kelly looked into my room. “Don’t go anywhere. I’m going to sort this out once and for all. We’ve all got some decisions to make.” I wasn’t going anywhere, why would I? My heart was breaking.

Sometime later that morning, the front door opens, and there’s a bit of a commotion, and I hear footsteps on the stairs. Kelly, Moira and a red-faced and clearly recently crying Fiona come into my bedroom.

“Right. Let’s get this thing sorted out once and for all.” Kelly was taking charge once again, and for once, I was glad.

“Fi, my idiot brother tells me you’ve split up with him, because of him going with Jasmine?”

Fiona didn’t answer. “Fiona, there was nothing to it,” Moira added.

“Nothing to it, he’s fucked another girl behind my back.”

Kelly looked at me in anger. “Simon, didn’t you even tell Fiona what was going on?” I shook my head. I just hadn’t thought anything of it. “You divvy. She’s right to dump you.”

Turning to Fiona, Kelly continued, “Fi, it was nothing, we were just expanding the group. Lee wan...”

“Don’t blame Lee, he couldn’t organise or start anything.” Fiona interrupted.

“Fi, please let me explain. Lee wanted to bring Jasmine into the group. He’s jealous of Si and me, that’s all it was. Anyway, Simon’s having sex with Moira and me, as well as with you. You know that.”

“That’s different. You three were doing it before I joined you and I knew that. But this is so different. Jasmine’s not part of us, and he.” The venom in the word he and the way Fiona looked at me turned my blood cold. “He didn’t tell me.”

“So, what’s the problem then? That Simon thought with his dick, as usual, and fucked another girl, or that he didn’t tell you?”

“Both. And it wasn’t just another girl. It was Jasmine. You know how sexy she is.”

“Fi, don’t worry about her. So she’s sexy. So are you, more so in fact. Anyway, if you break up with Simon, I’m not putting up with you moping around the house. For fuck’s sake Fi, you love Simon. Why break up with him over Jasmine?”

“Because they’ve had sex together.”

“Only twice, and as Jasmine is now part of the group, so what’s the big deal?”

“I don’t like it. I’m okay if Simon does it with you or Kelly, that’s different. I mean you three were doing it before I joined in, so I can’t ask him to stop. Anyway, I like doing it with all of you three. I just don’t want him going with another girl. For fucks sake Moira I love him.”

“Then why split up with him. Although he deserves it for not telling you what was going on. Look at the idiot. He’s been crying his heart out since you left this morning. How often have you seen him cry? Even that time he got kicked in the balls when playing rugby.”

“Fiona, don’t worry about Jasmine, you are one of the prettiest girls in your year. And if you didn’t know it, my idiot brother is in love with you. Even if he hasn’t told you he is and didn’t realise it until now.”

“He still cheated.”

“No, he didn’t! Not really. Look Fiona don’t do anything you’d regret later. Take some time to think things over, but please don’t go with anyone until you’ve calmed down. Yeah, there’s lots of boys at school who would love to go with you, but you know what that would mean. You’d just be another score with most of them, they’d probably be bragging that they’d scored with the cute sexy little Fiona Kerr. Then where would you be? Fiona, please I’m begging you as your friend, not Simon’s sister, not to do anything until you’ve calmed down.” Thank God for Kelly, I thought.
