Chapter 3
“What is it you wish to speak of?” the Creator asked the young girl with the stars in her eyes.
The girl looked up at the Creator with a mix of awe and determination. “I want to know about the Spirits,” she said, her voice barely more than a whisper. “What are they? Why did you make them?”
The Creator’s eyes softened as they looked at the child, their form shimmering in the soft light of the world they had built together. “Ah, the Spirits,” they murmured, a gentle smile playing upon their lips. “They are beings of pure energy, woven from the very fabric of existence. They are the embodiment of love and loss, the guardians of the cycle of life.”
The girl nodded solemnly; her curiosity piqued. “But why do they come here?” she pressed. “What is their purpose?”
The Creator sat down beside her, their form becoming more solid as they leaned in closer. “The Spirits come to this world to help those who are lost, to guide them through the veil of death and into the afterlife. They are the bridge between the living and the dead, offering comfort to the grieving and wisdom to the weary.”
Her eyes widened. “Can they bring people back?” she asked, hope sparkling in her gaze.
The Creator’s smile grew sad. “No, my dear,” they said, placing a hand on her shoulder. “Their power is not in reversing fate, but in helping others understand and accept it. They remind us that life is a journey, and that every ending is but a new beginning.”
The girl pondered this for a moment before looking up again. “What happens to them when they’re done?”
The Creator’s gaze drifted to the horizon, where the sky met the earth in a breathtaking blend of colors. “When their work is complete, the Spirits return to me, to be reborn into new forms, to continue their noble purpose in other realms.”
The girl nodded, understanding dawning in her eyes. “And what happens to you?” she asked, her voice quivering slightly.
The Creator’s smile grew even sadder. “When my time is done, I too will return to the Source, leaving this world and all its wonders in the hands of those who come after me. But fear not,” they added, “for as long as there is love and imagination, I will never truly be gone. I will live on in the hearts and minds of all those I have created.”
With that, the Creator stood up, the light of the setting sun casting a warm glow across the landscape. “Now, let us go,” they said, holding out their hand. “There is much to be done before the night falls, and I have a feeling that tomorrow will bring new surprises and adventures for us to share.”
The girl took the Creator’s hand, her heart swelling with excitement and a newfound sense of belonging. Together, they stepped into the future, ready to face whatever it had in store for them.
As they walked, the landscape around them shifted and changed, revealing a bustling city filled with creatures of every shape and size. The air was alive with the sounds of laughter and music, and the smell of exotic spices wafted through the streets. The Creator led the girl through the throngs of people, pointing out various Spirits as they went. Each one was unique, some barely visible whispers of light, while others were more substantial, their forms hinting at the lives they had once lived.
One spirit, in particular, caught the girl’s eye. It was a majestic creature with the body of a lion and the wings of an eagle. Its eyes held a fierce intelligence and a gentle wisdom that seemed to speak of ages long past. “That one,” the Creator said, noticing her gaze, “is the Spirit of Courage. It helps those who are facing their darkest fears, guiding them to find the strength within themselves.”
The girl watched as the Spirit of Courage approached a young warrior, his armor dented and his sword trembling in his hand. The Spirit leaned in close, whispering something in his ear, and the warrior’s eyes lit up with determination. He straightened his back, took a deep breath, and marched back into the fray.
“See?” the Creator said, pride in their voice. “They are the unsung heroes of our world, working tirelessly to ensure that love and hope never die.”
The girl nodded, feeling a sense of purpose growing within her. “I want to help them,” she said firmly. “I want to be a part of this.”
