Chapter 57: Truckin’
Thur, Dec 3, 1970
Jethro Tull & Fleetwood Mac, Day 3 of 6, RCMH, NYC, 8pm.
“Truckin’, got my chips cashed in
Keep truckin’, like the do-dah man
Together, more or less in line just keep truckin’ on
Arrows of neon and flashing marquees out on Main Street
Chicago, New York, Detroit and it’s all on the same street
Your typical city involved in a typical daydream
Hang it up and see what tomorrow brings
Dallas, got a soft machine
Houston, too close to New Orleans
New York got the ways and means
But just won’t let you be, oh no
Most of the cats that you meet on the street speak of true love
Most of the time they’re sittin’ and cryin’ at home
One of these days they know they better be goin’
Out of the door and down on the street all alone
Truckin’, like the do-dah man
Once told me, “You’ve got to play your hand”
Sometimes your cards ain’t worth a dime
If you don’t lay ‘em down
Sometimes the light’s all shinin’ on me
Other times I can barely see
Lately it occurs to me
What a long, strange trip it’s been
What in the world ever became of sweet Jane?
She lost her sparkle, you know she isn’t the same
Livin’ on reds, vitamin C, and cocaine
All a friend can say is, “Ain’t it a shame?”
Truckin’, up to Buffalo
I been thinkin’, you got to mellow slow
It takes time, you pick a place to go
And just keep truckin’ on
Sittin’ and starin’ out of the hotel window
Got a tip they’re gonna kick the door in again
I’d like to get some sleep before I travel
But if you got a warrant, I guess you’re gonna come in
Busted, down on Bourbon Street
Set up, like a bowlin’ pin
Knocked down, it gets to wearin’ thin
They just won’t let you be, no
You’re sick of hangin’ around and you’d like to travel
Get tired of travelin’ and you want to settle down
I guess they can’t revoke your soul for tryin’
Get out of the door and light out and look all around
Sometimes the light’s all shinin’ on me
Other times I can barely see
Lately it occurs to me
What a long, strange trip it’s been
Truckin’, I’m a goin’ home
Whoa whoa baby, back where I belong
Back home, sit down and patch my bones
And get back truckin’ on
Been there get back truckin’ on
Been there get back truckin’ on
Been there get back truckin’ on
Get back truckin’ on
Get back truckin’ on
Get back truckin’ on
Been there get back truckin’ on”
Truckin’
By Jerry Garcia, Bob Weir & Phil Lesh
Jethro Tull was about to hit it big, a really funky Band, with Ian Anderson on Flute & Vocals. Ian Played his Flute with his Nose sometimes, just as a lark.
Fleetwood Mac, were in a metamorphosis, changing from a heavy British Blues Band, into the more Pop, with Stevie Nicks. I hung with Mick Fleetwood, as he was a great guy, who was a deep thinker. I invited both Bands to join me often around Urantia, at one of my awesome places. Both Bands Signed up as PTR Partners, as all Artists Signed with PTR, were then also Co-Owners of PTR too.

“You can drink my liquor, you can call my lady
You can take my money, you can smoke my blunt
Scuff these Jordans, you can say you hate me
You can call me crazy, but
Don’t touch my truck (Uh, skrrt, skrrt)
Skrrt (Yeah, yeah, yeah), skrrt
Don’t touch my truck (Don’t touch my truck)
Skrrt (Woo-ooh), skrrt (Ayy, y’all check the gate)
Don’t touch my
AC busted and the floorboard’s rusted
With a little bit of lovin’, it’ll fire right up
Paid eight for it, woulda gave eight more
I wouldn’t trade that sucker for a million bucks (Oh yeah)
Tell them boys come and get me (Get me)
I be ridin’ through the city (Woo)
Young, rich, and I’m pretty (Yeah)
Homie, don’t get it twisted
Keep a semi in the Hemi (Ooh)
Red cup full of Henny (Uh)
My hitters come in plenties, for real (Yeah)
You can drink my liquor, you can call my lady
You can take my money, you can smoke my blunt
Scuff these Jordans, you can say you hate me
You can call me crazy, but
Don’t touch my truck (Ayy, skrrt, skrrt)
Skrrt (Yeah, yeah), skrrt
Don’t touch my truck (Huh, yeah)
Skrrt (Woo-ooh), skrrt
Don’t touch my
Toolbox full of dirty dove shot empties
Muddy old clodhoppers and a Mossberg pump
Pull up on you at the red light, homie
Throw some Bone Thugs on and make your loose change jump (Oh yeah)
Tell them boys come and get me (Get me)
I be ridin’ through the city (Woo)
Young, rich, and I’m pretty (Yeah)
Homie, don’t get it twisted
Keep a Semi in the Hemi (In the Hemi)
Red cup full of Henny (Yeah, we drinkin’)
My hitters come in plenties, for real
You can drink my liquor, you can call my lady
You can take my money, you can smoke my blunt
Scuff these Jordans, you can say you hate me
You can call me crazy, but
Don’t touch my truck (Oh)
Skrrt, skrrt
Don’t touch my truck (Oh)
Skrrt, skrrt
Don’t touch my truck
Woo, ooh, woo, ooh, woo, ooh (How you doin’?)
Don’t touch my truck (Woo, ooh, woo, ooh, woo, ooh)
Yeah
Don’t touch my truck”
My Truck
By BRELAND
After a day in NYC, we headed back to Arkansas. 20 Minutes by Car, South of Bentonville, AR, was Lowell, AR. Sam Walton & Wal-Mart were HQ in Bentonville.
Sam had begged U-Corp, to Partner with Sam’s Pal, who Owned a Trucking Company.
Johnnie Bryan Hunt, Sr, “J.B.” was 43yo in 1970. He had started his Trucking Company in 1961. In 1989, he was the 1st to Partner with the Railroads, being their #1 Trucking Company to Transport the Containers they Carried. J.B Hunt, had to really expand fast, to have Ops in all Rail Container Locations. That would require Warehouses, Trucks, Trailers, Drivers, VM & Millions of Containers.
Instead of waiting until 1989, we were Partnering with J.B. now, in 1970.
Sam & J.B. were friends since 1963, so Sam had convinced J.B. to Sign on with U-Corp. Sam Walton would always use J.B. Hunt for Wal-Mart’s Truck Delivery’s. Even later, when Sam’s Trucks were Painted in Wal-Mart’s Colours & Logo, J.B. Hunt would still Supply Wal-Mart’s Drivers & Equipment.
J.B. Hunt would now be our #1 Truck Company, Transporting all our Containers, from a Customer, to another Customer, Transporting a Container to a Railroad InterModal Yard, or to a Container Port, where it would be Loaded on a Container Ship. If closeby, we’d Deliver the Container Directly to the Customer.
We would try to use our Partner’s Companies when possible.
Penske Truck Leasing, would Buy all its Trucks, from Paccar, with Kenworth & Peterbilt. I was already working with Paccar, to develop a smaller City Delivery Truck. I was thinking of my Mitsubishi Fuso FK Truck. It was a Flawless Truck, with the only VM it needed was the Oil Changes, etc.
All our Partner Companies would use Penske Truck Leasing, to supply all their Trucking Needs.
J.B. Hunt, would then Transport all our Containers & other Freight.
Crowley-APL, Maersk & Evergreen, would be our Ocean Crossing Container Shipping Companies. They would Run our Container Ports we Operated at our Ocean Port Locations.
Warren Buffet had just Bought enough Stock in Union Pacific, to take Control of it. It was being Bought & then put under a new Subsidiary of U-Corp, the Central RxR Company.
We knew that we’d lose millions of dollars for the next year, or so, that was until we could complete the new Rail Plan, that Teddy Kennedy & Gerald Ford were Ramming Through Congress. All of us were going to enjoy the Passenger Service that Union Pacific would Operate, until the next year, 1971 though. In 1971, the US Government allowed the Railroads to Cease Passenger Service. Until then, the Railroad’s were Required by Law to Carry Passengers.
Once Union Pacific ceased Passenger Service, we would keep most of our old Passenger Rail Cars. As Ralf, I knew many Passenger Cars were scrapped, some being Burned, then the Metal would be scrapped.
No! We’d save most old Rail Passenger Cars, sending many to Schoolyards, & special Places, used as Restaurants, etc. Kids would love them. How about Homeless Shelters, especially for Hobo’s, who Rode The Rails.
Mostly, we’d keep 6 Train Consists, with an Old Locomotive or 2, Tenders, Passenger Cars, Scenic Dome Cars, Dining Cars, Baggage Cars, Freight Cars, Stock Cars & a Caboose.
We’d have Special Passenger Train Consists, that we’d Run between our Freight Trains, having Weekly excursions around the Country. We’d offer them to any U-Corp Partner, so they could then Host their own Employees & Customers. We’d also use our Passenger Train Trips, to get all U-Corp’s Partners together for our Quarterly Meetings. We always allowed for 3-Days together, each time, so we all could reconnect. We usually would Meet at one of our great Resorts, especially any new ones.
We would keep all our Historic Rail Cars in perfect shape too, Housing them in RxR Barns, out of the weather. We would Pay to keep them in great shape. But often, the VM Crews were Retired Rail Workers. We Paid them well too, even though they would have done it for free. We gave them a nicer Retirement.
Sam & Bud Walton, & their wives, as well as J.B. Hunt, & his wife, Johnelle, 38yo, Flew back to NYC with us. They were going to hit the Museums & Broadway.
I wanted J.B. Hunt to be with us, as we had just with added another huge Cog in U-Corp’s Transportation Network.
U-Corp was Partnering with the Founder of United Postal Service, James E. Casey, 82yo in 1970.
UPS had begun in Seattle, WA, Aug 28, 1907. It was 1st called the American Messenger Service, AMS.
In 1913, it became the Merchants Parcel Service, MPS.
In 1919, it finally became United Parcel Service, UPS.
Over the years, UPS had its HQ in Seattle, Chicago, NYC, Greenwich, CT & finally Atlanta, GA. In 1970, UPS’s HQ was in NYC.
UPS 1st hired local Boys to Deliver Legal Paperwork for Lawyers, as well as any other small item. UPS 1st used Bicycles, then Motorcycles, & then Cars & Trucks.
By Partnering with U-Corp, James was getting his Affairs in order, being 82, & knew U-Corp would help his Family better, after he was gone. Luckily, James would be with us, until 1983, another 13 years.
As with most U-Corp Companies, we’d take UPS Private, ASAP.
Partnering with UPS, now allowed U-Corp’s Partners to Deliver to almost every Home & Business in America. We would Partner with the USPS, to Deliver to the few Locations that made no economic sense to go to. As a Partner, all our Freight was kept In-House, as any Transport Costs, were paid from one of our Partners to another Partner. Everyone benefited.
We’d expand UPS, to Europe & Asia, using our Partners in those areas to oversee those Ops. Mao in China, C-Chee Honda for the rest of Asia, Gavin Astor & Maersk in Europe, etc.
UPS would keep C-4 in business, supplying all its Vehicles. We’d set up a Division to make all the Step-Vans that UPS used, needing thousands over the years. All would Run on Propane, of course.
J.B. Hunt, immediately worked with James Casey of UPS, merging many of their Ops.
As Ralf, UPS’s Drivers would go on Strike, in 1997. That wouldn’t happen now. I would make sure that the Teamsters Union & its Drivers would be happy, as all would now have Kaiser-Permanente Health Insurance, Retirement, etc, all under the Umbrella of U-Corp’s Perks.
We would expand our Central Dispatch for Freight, adding UPS. We would Ship our Freight the best way possible, while also trying to max out each Company as much as possible. The millions of other Customer would soon swamp us too. UPS could now expand easier, having as much money as it required.
None of our Partners would ever have to Grovel to a Shitty Exec, at some random Bank.
Instead, the Loan would be Rubber Stamped, after I met with the MGF’s for those Partners involved. I Trusted my MGF’s 100%.
We would have until 1973, to get all our Container Ops in place, as that’s about when most Companies would s/o to Containers. We were already Building new Containers, by the thousands, as well as making the Trailers & Rail Cars to Transport those Containers. We were setting up the Drydocks, beginning to Build our 1st new Containers Ships. Our Kaiser Hudong-Shanghai Shipyard, along with Maersk’s Shipyard in Denmark, were both ramping up to Full-Production, which was great for both Shipyards. Both Shipyards had begun to Shut Down, due to Low New Orders, but we had quickly reversed that, as we needed new Container Ships ASAP.
