Chapter 53

Air-World

Sat, Nov 14 1970

Chicago, King Crimson & Emerson, Lake & Palmer, Day 5 of 6, RCMH, NYC, 8pm.

Leavin’ home, out on the road
I’ve been down before
Ridin’ along in this big ol’ jet plane
I’ve been thinkin’ about my home
But my love light seems so far away
And I feel like it’s all been done
Somebody’s tryin’ to make me stay
You know I’ve got to be movin’ on

Oh, Oh big ol’ jet airliner
Don’t carry me too far away
Oh, Oh big ol’ jet airliner
Cause it’s here that I’ve got to stay

Goodbye to all my friends at home
Goodbye to people I’ve trusted
I’ve got to go out and make my way
I might get rich you know I might get busted
But my heart keeps calling me backwards
As I get on the 707
Ridin’ high I got tears in my eyes
You know you got to go through hell
Before you get to heaven

Big ol’ jet airliner
Don’t carry me too far away
Oh, Oh big ol’ jet airliner
Cause it’s here that I’ve got to stay

Touchin’ down in New England town
Feel the heat comin’ down
I’ve got to keep on keepin’ on
You know the big wheel keeps on spinnin’ around
And I’m goin’ with some hesitation
You know that I can surely see
That I don’t want to get caught up in any of that
Funky kicks goin’ down in the city

Big ol’ jet airliner
Don’t carry me too far away
Oh, Oh big ol’ jet airliner
Cause it’s here that I’ve got to stay

Oh, Oh big ol’ jet airliner
Don’t carry me too far away
Oh, Oh big ol’ jet airliner
Cause it’s here that I’ve got to stay
Yeah, yeah yeah, yeah

Big ol’ jet airliner
Don’t carry me too far away
Oh, Oh big ol’ jet airliner
Cause it’s here that I’ve got to stay

Oh, Oh big ol’ jet airliner
Carry me to my home
Oh, Oh big ol’ jet airliner
Cause it’s there that I belong”

Today we were creating another Mega-Subsidiary, this time for all our Aviation Companies. I thought to continue with the World Theme, as in Sea World, so I was calling our new Aviation Sub:

Air-World

It would be HQ in the huge Pan Am Building, atop Grand Central Station. It was Built by Pan Am’s Founder & CEO, our very own Juan Trippe. It was completed in 1962, being the biggest Building in NYC in 1962, by Square Footage, at 2,400,000 Sq Ft. There were 59 Floors, each Floor with Wide-Open Spaces, with few Posts to get in the way. Modern Buildings give people more options inside.

We were also inviting another Partner into the mix of U-Corp, as well as more Companies we took over.

My good friends, the Degenhardt’s, at the end of WW2, had been given alot of Stock in Deutsche Lufthansa, at the same time that they were given Majority Control of Mercedes Benz. Both were Gifts of Winston Churchill, for Paul & Mary’s contribution to the Allie’s War Effort.

The Deg’s had just Bought alot more Stock in Lufthansa, enough to take Control of it. The Deg’s were adding Deutsche Lufthansa to U-Corp. Wow, now we had 2 Huge Airlines, Pan Am & Lufthansa, under U-Corp.

A 3rd Major Airline was also being added to U-Corp too.

Chairman Mao was Giving 50% of Air China to U-Corp. He knew we could Run it better, so its Value would more than make up for Giving us 50%. All would make out.

So, Pan Am would handle the Americas, while Lufthansa would be dominant in Europe, & Air China would give us coverage in Asia. Cool.

While we were talking, Gianni Agnelli called, saying he & Enzo were in the process of Taking Control of Alitalia - Società Aerea Italiana. Since 1964, it was the Pope’s Airline, as Alitalia always provided his Private Charter Jet.

Up to now, it had been Owned by the Italian Government, but Gianni had convinced the Government to Sell Gianni & Enzo 50% of Alitalia. As I’ve mentioned before, Gianni was the #1 Businessman in Italy, so he was listened to. He assured the Government that the Airline would be worth more, by working with U-Corp.

Ok, so now Lufthansa & ITA would share Europe.

I got with Juan Trippe of Pan Am, asking him if he’d be willing to Buy both Eastern Airlines & Western Airlines.

Eastern Airlines, was the major competitor of Pan Am, in the NE of America, as well as the Caribbean. Many Routes duplicated each other, especially the NE Shuttle both operated, between Philly, DC, NYC & Boston.

I also knew that both Pan Am & Eastern would go Bankrupt soon, so why not Merge now, when both were pretty strong financially. I thought Nixon would OK it.

An ally I wanted to recruit from the Democrats, was Teddy Kennedy, 38yo. He had survived his f/u, letting his Assistant Drown, thinking she was already Dead.

He was an Alcoholic, but still a good, dedicated guy, from a Family who knew the Value of Service. I wanted him to Co-Sponsor the Ford Universal Health Care Act, going into Affect, Jan 1, 1974.

Now I wanted him to smooth the way to Buy Eastern & Western, knowing it was the right way to go, helping the US Airlines in the long run.

Teddy had been in NYC, so he was with us to form Air World. He jumped aboard Ford’s Health Care Plan, haven been a lukewarm supporter before, but 100% wanting to be a Partner on the Plan now.

Teddy also agreed with my take on the future Airline Industry, saying he’d work with us to combine some Airlines. He’d speed up any Regulatory hiccups, if any.

Since I had his attention, I asked him of his Nephew, RFK, Jr. I knew he was a Lawyer who focused on Environmental Issues. I saw him on Joe Rogan’s Podcast, where he Claimed of Cleaning up the very polluted Hudson River. The Hudson was pretty much a Dead River, from just North of NYC, to just South of Albany, NY. It is now one of the Cleanest Rivers in America.

I’ve read, that more Water Flows per Minute Down the Hudson, than the Mississippi. That’s because the Mississippi is relatively Flat, so it winds around, whereas, the Hudson is mostly Straight, so the Water Flows Faster, w/o restrictions, due to curves, etc.

Because of that, I think that helped Clean-Up the Hudson, as our Planet, Urantia, will Clean itself up, if we, supposedly Intelligent Mortals, would just leave it alone, w/o Polluting it further.

After RFK, Jr, Sued & Won, the Company’s who were doing the Polluting the Hudson, paid Billions of Dollars in Retributions, which he used to further Clean up the Hudson. I wanted RFK, Jr, as U-Corp’s Lead Attorney, making sure WE were doing it right.

The Group that RFK, Jr Headed, as their Head Lawyer, was eventually called the Riverkeepers.

Teddy Kennedy laughed when I brought up RFK, Jr, saying that Bobby was still in High School, Graduating in 1972, but he’d have Bobby Intern with us, if I’d like. He thought that would really speed up his Bobby’s Growth. Bobby was 16yo in 1970.

Upon further research, we found out that the guy who eventually Founded Riverkeepers, had been a River Advocate since the early 1960’s, way before any others seemed to care. That guy was Robert Boyle.

Pete Seeger would also be involved, as their Spokesman, Singing about it, with his Song, Sloop Clearwater.

“I was sitting on my front porch as I watched the river rot,
Thinking about the sturgeon that are gone but not forgot
And the buffalo an restless underneath the prairie sod
And the smoke stacked up to heaven so’s it hid the face of God

There were soldiers marching by my door and a tap upon my phone
And a freeway inching toward me that would someday eat my home
And the smokestacks hid a sunset that would never come again
When they brought the Sloop Clearwater a-sailing ‘round the bend.

The captain had a mustache that was fourteen inches long
And the shanty master paced the deck a-roaring out a song
And the man who held the tiller wore his hair down to his knees
And a hundred tons of canvas billowed out into the breeze.

But Redwood trees are crashing down out on the Western coast
And an angry shadowy army follows Crazy Horse’s ghost
And the eagle’s nest’s as barren as the mountain lion’s den
On the day the Sloop Clearwater came sailing ‘round the bend.

The ship cut through the sewage lying on the river’s face
And the sloop docked in the garbage that was all around the place
And the crew struck up a hornpipe and the boots rang on the wood
And the sound fell on the river and the river found it good.

But there’s lightening in the Asian sky and thunder in the slums
You can hear the Indians tuning up their long forgotten drums
Children clap their hands and laugh as men are killing men
On the day the Sloop Clearwater came a-sailing ‘round the bend.

I said you people all are fools to laugh and sing and shout
When your ship’s so deep in liquid shit it never will get out
When children cry from hunger and grown men get mean from shame
And a war rages in every heart and the very ground’s in flame.

You sail your dirty river and you sing your little songs
You dance your pretty dances and recite your petty wrongs
Don’t you know that Abiyoyo’s making footprints in the fen
While you bring your Sloop Clearwater a-sailing ‘round the bend.

The crew just laughed and danced some more and the beads began to fling
And beards were lifted to the skies as the crew began to sing
A black man rose upon the deck and he preached a sermon there
And a crewman capered on the mast like a dancing grizzly bear.

I said you people all are fools but I guess I am one too
And it seems the guns went quiet then and the river all was new
The smoke clouds cleared and I almost wept to see the skies again
As they brought that Sloop Clearwater a-sailing ‘round the bend.

The mountains rang as children laughed and women raised a song
The bison thundered down the plains a hundred thousand strong
The Ghost Dance tent was raised again and the Lion wandered free
And the rivers ran like silver from the mountains to the sea.

There was love and joy and brotherhood and peace the world around
There was life and paint and energy and trees and taste and sound
And Abiyoyo danced a solemn waltz out in the fen
When they brought the Sloop Clearwater a-sailing ‘round the bend.

Now the sloop is gone and once again I watch the river rot
And someone feels the skyfire and another hugs the shot
And the heart of man is angry and the land of man is mad
And the air of man chokes on itself and the rivers all are sad.

We war against each other and we fight with our own souls
And we’ve killed off every river and our blood is icy cold
But a spark of joy jumps in my breast as I remember when
They brought that Sloop Clearwater a-sailing ‘round the bend.”

The Sloop Clearwater
By Pete Seeger

Riverkeepers, used the Sailboat, Clearwater, to Teach about keeping the Hudson Clean.

One of the 1st big Lawsuits that Bobby & the Riverkeepers Won, was against Con Edison. Riverkeepers proved that Con Ed was Discharging Bilge Water from their Ships, that contained many Pollutants, some Proven to cause Cancer.

We’d get Pete Seeger, Bobby Kennedy, Jr, & Robert Boyle together now, in 1970. We’d put it in one of our Flatiron Parks Conservation Funds. With U-Corp involved, we’ll be able to use our leverage to convince all the Polluters to come to U-Corp, asking our help. Eventually, we’d convince The Polluters to Spend what it took to Clean-Up their f/u’s of the Past.

We especially concentrated on coming up with better Practices to keep Pollutants from Leaking Out from now on.

Mary Tyler Moore Show, #9, Bob & Rhoda & Teddy & Mary, CBS-TV, 9:30-10pm

“He blesses the boys as they stand in line
The smell of gun grease and the bayonets they shine
He’s there to help them all that he can
To make them feel wanted he’s a good holy man
Sky pilot ... sky pilot
How high can you fly
You’ll never, never, never reach the sky

He smiles at the young soldiers
Tells them its all right
He knows of their fear in the forthcoming fight
Soon there’ll be blood and many will die
Mothers and fathers back home they will cry
Sky pilot ... sky pilot
How high can you fly
You’ll never, never, never reach the sky

He mumbles a prayer and it ends with a smile
The order is given
They move down the line
But he’ll stay behind and he’ll meditate
But it won’t stop the bleeding or ease the hate

As the young men move out into the battle zone
He feels good, with God you’re never alone
He feels tired and he lays on his bed
Hopes the men will find courage in the words that he said
Sky pilot ... sky Pilot
How high can you fly
You’ll never, never, never reach the sky

You’re soldiers of God you must understand
The fate of your country is in your young hands
May God give you strength
Do your job real well
If it all was worth it
Only time it will tell

In the morning they return
With tears in their eyes
The stench of death drifts up to the skies
A young soldier so ill looks at the sky pilot
Remembers the words
“Thou shalt not kill”
Sky pilot ... sky pilot
How high can you fly
You never, never, never reach the sky”

I met with Robert Boyle, 42yo; Pete Seeger, 51yo; & Bobby Kennedy, Jr, at my Office atop the Heckscher Building. We officially set up the Riverkeepers. U-Corp was dedicated to Cleaning Up Urantia, whatever & wherever it took.

Teddy Kennedy was with us, proud of his Nephew, Bobby, Jr.

That’s when I asked Teddy to be my Ally from the Left Side, the Dem’s.

I laid out how the US Transportation Industry was about to go through some rough times.

The Airlines, Based in America, were hamstrung by Outdated Regulations, which kept them from quickly fixing Issues.

In the NE & the Caribbean, Pan Am & Eastern duplicated Routes, reducing Profit to a narrow margin.

Plus, both Airlines had most of their US Routes in the Eastern Half of the Country.

Western Airlines only covered the Western Half of the USA.

Why not let Pan Am merge Eastern & Western into it. That way, Pan Am could Ride-Out any downturns.

Teddy liked my thinking, saying he’d help me do it. He thought another big Airline or 2 could be formed, by combining the other big players: American, Delta, TWA, etc.

“I took 2 weeks vacation for the honeymoon
A couple tickets, all-inclusive down in Cancun
I couldn’t get my money back, so I’m in seat 7A
I’m gettin’ drunk on a plane

I bet the feller on the aisle thought I was crazy
Cause I taped your picture to the seatback right beside me
Now I got empty mini bottles fillin’ both our trays
I’m gettin’ drunk on a plane

Buyin’ drinks for everybody but the pilot
It’s a party
Got this 737 rockin’ like a G6
Stewardess is something sexy
Leanin’, pourin’ Coke & whiskey
Told her about my condition
Got a little mile high flight attention

It’s Mardi Gras up in the clouds
I’m up so high
May never come down
I’ll try anything to drown out the pain
They all know why
I’m gettin’ drunk on a plane

We had this date marked on the calendar forever
We’d take that new white limo airport ride together
I feel like a plastic groom alone there at the top of the cake
So, hey, I’m gettin’ drunk on a plane

Buyin’ drinks for everybody but the pilot
It’s a party
Got this 737 rockin’ like a G6
Stewardess is something sexy
Leanin’, pourin’ Coke & whiskey
Told her about my condition
Got a little mile high flight attention
