Travel Day

Ali & I needed a break, so we Flew to the UK, in our 1st NetJets, Gulfstream 2. We Landed at Gatwick A/P, where there was now a Jet Aviation FBO. Gatwick would be our main London Corporate A/P, as it was closest to Hever Castle.

Wow, The Castle was busy, as most of the Guest Rooms were occupied. The Rolling Stones took up 1 Wing, with the Traveling Whart-Hoggs taking up another.

Jimi Hendrix & Janis Joplin had been encouraged to stay in the Henry 8th Suite. Jimi’s longtime Girlfriend, Devon Wilson, was also living with Jimi & Janis. Another 3-Some. All 3 were 27yo, but all 3 were due to Die within the year. We’ll have to see about that.

Jimi & Gavin Astor, Golfed each day, with Jimi becoming really good. Ali & I joined them, pleasantly surprised to see that Hever Castle’s Golf Courses were in great shape already. Gavin & Sean Connery, were working on making the Holes even harder to Play.

The best part of Golf for me, was being in Nature. Hever’s Courses were placed amongst the lovely British Countryside, so it was soothing to me there.

Hever’s 19th Hole Pub, was the place to Hang. We were Hosting up to a 100 Golfers a day, so the 19th Hole, was a lively place.

Tue, May 5, 1970

Glyn Johns had taken over the Ballroom, as well the Rooms surrounding it. There were 3-Bedrooms, as well as 4 Recording Booths, that he Controlled from his Central Control Booth, that had Windows into all 4, as well as the Ballroom.

Since Jimi, Janis & Devon were Staying in the Henry 8th Suite, Ali & I Bunked with Glyn, in 1 of his Guest Rooms.

Glyn was Recording the Rolling Stones, as they were in the process of making Sticky Fingers, which would be Released in 1971. Get Yer Ya-Ya’s Out!: The Rolling Stones in Concert, would be their 1970 Release, Sep 4, 1970.

Glyn was also Recording the Whart-Hoggs & Jimi & Janis.

Asylum Records had Signed the Whart-Hoggs, along with Jimi & Janis, so Glyn was handling those chores for Asylum through BS Studios @ Hever Castle.

The Who were preparing to Record at Hever too, as they were working on their 1971 Classic, Who’s Next.

Glyn had helped them Master their Feb 14, 1970 Concert at Leeds University. They would Release it in 6 Days, May 11, 1970, as Live at Leeds. It was Loud & Raucous & Fun & another instant Classic. Like they did at Woodstock, they Performed their entire Rock Opera, Tommy, at Leeds.

Regular Season, Game 26, at Oakland “A’s”. We Lost 3-11. (Nite)

The Who & Sha Na Na, Day 1 of 6 @ RCMH, 8pm. High energy R’n’R.

Wed, May 6, 1970

Gavin, Jimi, Janis, Ali & I Flew up to St Andrews, Scotland, UK. We met Sean Connery there, as that was his Home.

Bond Golf, had been successful at Taking Control of The Old Course at St Andrews, the 1st golf Course ever, being Founded in 1552. We had put the Old Course in one of my Perpetual Trusts, to keep it “As Is” forever. We would Respect & Protect it from Assholes & Development.

We Stayed at the Old Course Hotel, that came with the Old Course. The Hotel looked old, but it had just opened in 1968.

We spent the next week Golfing the Old Course, realizing we’d never Beat it, as it kicked our asses daily.

Ali was Teaching Janis to Golf. Janis would never be good, but she made it fun for the rest of us.

Travel Day

Ali & I flew to Napoli, with Gavin, Jimi, Janis & Sean remaining to Play the Old Course some more. Sean & Gavin were enjoying Jimi’s enthusiasm for Golf, as he had been Bitten big time.

We were p/u by Enzo Ferrari, himself, as he was excited for the upcoming Weekend. Although Enzo was 72yo, he was still like a little kid. That was until Racing was involved, then Enzo was super serious like.

The inaugural Ferrari Concours at Villa Cimbrone, was due to be held Fr, May 15-Sun, May 17, 1970.

It was also the Formation of the Ferrari Owner’s Club.

Enzo had taken my suggestion to heart, allowing the Club with his blessing. In fact, Enzo was Member #1. Gianni Agnelli was Member #2. Gianni Controlled Fiat, which had recently Bought 50% of Ferrari. Gianni was a great friend of Enzo.

When we arrived at Villa Cimbrone again, Enzo presented me with my very own Bright Red Ferrari. It was a 1970 Ferrari 512S, that was a Race Car, as Enzo didn’t make pure Road Cars yet, only Race Cars that were somewhat Street Legal. I was to be Member #3.
