Chapter 9
Witness Protection
I don’t know ... maybe the Marshals could have done it better, but mom had documents for we three. And they passed a background check for the University of Michigan. Ever consider going to school with your mom? How about your sister? Your older sister and your twin sister? Mom is my 23 year old sister ... and the three of us are blue eyed blonde, blond, and blonde. And there are things I don’t understand...
We have authenticated credits from Central Washington University, Ellensburg, WA ... and the professors remember us. Fond memories.
“So that’s where they went. Sophomores, you say. Good. They’ll be an asset. Pass along my number I’ll be expecting their call.”
Our landlord said, “Who? Oh them ... Never a bit of trouble. I only remember the trouble makers. Paid on time. Wonderful bunch. Sad though, raised by their older sister after their parents were lost at sea.”
The Police: “They’re in our database ... mistaken identity. Their attorney is local. Culprits apprehended two hours later.”
The lawyer: “Good kids. I wish mine were as well behaved.”
So ... we’re going to university together.
I guess ... I don’t know What I guess. I’m just along for the ride.
The problem is I Remember Ellensburg ... and I’m sure I’ve been there. Even if I haven’t. Jackie has the same remembrance ... and she’s never been there either.
We can describe our favorite bar, gas station, grocery store, Walmart. the pastor of the Episcopal Church, our professors, the Dean of Students ... and we’ve been west of the Mississippi only on our escape. I don’t understand what I understand.
Arrggghhh.
