Chapter 28
The perp hadn’t watched Friday. There was no reason ... Alice was picked up after school ... five days a week. Carol was always driving. She would be driving Friday.
He said it ... it had to be.
Nobody knew Carol had Friday off. Well ... the ‘girls club’ knew it ... several ‘friends with benefits’ knew she was off Fridays. Jackie knew it. David knew he had to drive.
Carol always had Friday off.
Thursday was her night out with the ‘girls.’
Thursday night Carol howled at the moon.
Friday day she woke up ... wormed her body out from under ... whoever ... and took a taxi home.
On Fridays Jackie and David took Alice to school ... did their thing ... and picked her up after school. Because they were only Friday, the waiting van ahead of them in line wasn’t anything to worry about.
Oh Wow ... Talk about Deja Vu All Over Again ... only THIS time Alice was having a sleep-over. When Alice opened the school front door there were seven absolute babes with her. Eight 16 year old walking dreams.
Alice was plenty ... seven more was surfeit ... but our young diplomat wasn’t about to let this chance go by.
‘We’ll just take them all!’
What he knew was that he’d have to sacrifice one or two to get cooperation from the others. That was how it worked ... sometimes it was really messy. Dispose of the recalcitrant and fuck the others. When it comes survivorship girls fold easily.
(According to the National Center for State Legislatures, 1.5 million children and adolescents, or 7% of youth, run away from home each year in the United States. The National Runaway Safeline, however, estimates that the number is between 1.6 million and 2.8 million. The National Runaway Switchboard, an organization that helps kids who have run away or are considering it, says that 1 in 7 kids between the ages of 10 and 18 will run away at some point.)
A percentage of that number are teen girls. A percentage of those girls are never found.
The side door on the van popped open. Several swarthy men jumped out. Alice went into overdrive panic.
“Not again.”
He who is paying stepped out and commanded, “I’m here to pick you up. Get in the van.”
Yeah ... he did that ... stupid, huh. Where he came from the girls obeyed.
The several swarthy men started forward ... escorts. Jackie had to lean out the passenger side window.
“I don’t care if I know how it works as long as it works.”
It did.
A couple of days later ... on the Monday following ... the security noticed the van.
The side door was open.
Security strolled up to the open door, “Y’all can’t park here,” He announced.
No response.
He looked.
There was nobody in it.
It was too early for students. Too early for parents. Too early for staff.
Security hadn’t unlocked the doors.
Further examination of the van showed the key was in the ignition ... the switch was on. The instrument lights were off and the gas gauge was on empty. Unlocking the school-doors he prepared for the onslaught. The enemy wasn’t at the gates ... yet ... but they soon would be.
The van was obstructing Bus parking. He called the authorized towing company.
He had an ‘arrangement’ with the towing company ... his brother in law.
The wrecker showed with two people. Life is easier if you can drive the abandoned vehicle.
Nope.
“Dead battery.” A jump.
Nope.
“It’s outta gas.”
The wrecker hooked up and off they went.
At the impound lot the examination began.
The wrecker driver knew what to do with all the guns. He got a dollar per caliber. 38 special=38$ 357=$357, 9mm= .355=$355. You get the idea.
Meanwhile, Monday Security called Friday Security.
“Yeah ... it was there at shift end. Running ... the driver had to be using the john somewhere.” “Still there?” “ Oh ... towed?”
“Outta our hands.”
