Chapter 3: The Reckoning
Of course she wanted to come home. My attorney had called just after Cindy had posted her last story and told me what she could make happen. I thought it was a great idea!
I e-mailed Cindy and said I thought we should talk somewhere in public before she just showed up at the house. A meeting was set for 2pm the next day at a restaurant in town.
I was sitting at a table when I saw her walk in. She looked pretty much the same as the day she left. She was dressed in a white blouse, blue skirt and matching blue jacket (it was a cool day). She saw me and walked to the table. I did not rise to welcome her with a hug and kiss like she expected. I just motioned for her to sit. She looked disappointed but sat down.
“Your last story was not well received.”
“People don’t like RAAC stories.”
“What are RAAC stories?”
“Reconciliation At All Costs.”
“Me neither.”
I motioned at the man sitting at the next table. He got up and walked over to our table.
“Mrs. Cindy Williams?”
“Yes?”
He handed her a packet of papers and said, “You have been served.”
She looked stunned.
“What the hell is this?”
“I’m divorcing you, just like I told you I would if you cheated on me. In those papers you will see that I am suing on ‘irreconcilable differences’, if you do not sign them I will sue on ‘Adultery’. You really don’t want that because I will make sure everyone in your family gets a copy of those papers along with a copy of every story you posted.”
“I never cheated on you. I swear! I made it all up.”
“It’s too late to start lying. My attorney had a private investigator on you from almost day one. We know you rented a condo in Cincinnati. Even though your stories said you were all over the country you never left Cincinnati except for that trip you took to Sturgis with your biker boyfriends. I have pictures of you on that trip and I will use them if I have to.”
