Chapter 1

My name is Connor, an ordinary college student. Because I look ordinary and have a homely personality, although I know a lot of girls, I am not very popular with them. So now I am 20 years old and still single.

It was just after class that day, and I received a text message on my phone asking me to pick up a package. I knew that although I knew a lot of people, no one would be kind enough to send me anything. I was skeptical, so I took the package and returned to my dormitory. I opened the package and saw that there was only a letter inside - it was more like an invitation than a letter:

“Dear Mr. Connor, I will hold a grand banquet at the villa in the center of Sunshine Lake this Saturday. I look forward to your coming.”

What a weird sentence, without even a signature. I do know about Sunshine Lake, which is one of the largest lakes in the country and is also known as a wealthy area where rich people live. As for whether the villa in the middle of the lake exists, I’m afraid I can only know by going there.

I hesitated for a moment, but decided to go alone. Even if it was just a prank, I would just treat it as a trip.

On Saturday morning, I arrived at the location specified in the invitation letter on time, only to find that a boat had already been parked by the lake.

“You must be Mr. Connor. I have been waiting for you here for a long time. Please get on the boat. The only way to reach the villa is by boat. The other guests have already arrived.” A man dressed as a staff member on the boat said to me respectfully.

Since I’m here, I might as well make the best of it. I got on the boat without any worries. Even if someone wanted to plot against me, I’m a poor loser with no money, no sex, and no money at home, so what would I be afraid of?

Along the way, I kept asking the staff about the banquet, but he was busy setting up the boat and refused to talk about it. I felt bored and could only look around at this rare scenery.

After the boat had been sailing for about half an hour, we finally saw a huge villa in the middle of the lake, which looked like a castle on the sea. “Sir, please go in by yourself. I will take you there. Have fun.” The staff respectfully escorted me ashore and turned around to row away.

I got ashore and walked towards the door of the villa. Seeing that it was ajar, I pushed it open and walked in.

The villa was not decorated very luxuriously, not as magnificent as I had imagined, but it had all the appliances and furniture you could need. What surprised me was that I ran into a few acquaintances.

“Angela, Daisy, why are you here?”

I looked at the two girls in surprise. The three of us met in the club. They were both pretty girls at the school level. We didn’t have much contact with each other, but we still talked a few words when we met. “I don’t know either. I came here after receiving an invitation letter. There are already nine people here besides you. They are all in the same situation as us, but you are the only man.” Daisy frowned and said.
