Chapter 6
The Next Morning, Tomoe was walking with Eliyen, as they were heading to Aeta’s room in their dorm. “We get a day off today; I’ve an idea of how we, or rather our lady, spend it.” She said to Eliyen, as thoughts and ideas crossed her mind.
Eliyen raised an eyebrow, curious about Tomoe’s idea. “Oh, what’s your plan for the day off?” she asked. Tomoe was known for coming up with interesting and enjoyable activities, so she was eager to hear the suggestion.
“For Starters, we spend some time in the King’s Castle, having our lady talk to his children, as well as any noble lord and lady would do her some good ... and...” Tomoe said.
Eliyen nodded in agreement, recognizing the importance of socializing with the king’s family and other nobles. “That sounds like a great idea, Tomoe. It will help our lady build connections and improve her understanding of courtly life. What else do you have in mind?”
“I think she should make new friends, because right now, we are her only friends, us, mainly, the spirits are subservient, and likely wouldn’t be considered friends. Her Go” Her Go” Her Golem isn’t intelligent enough to have a conversation with, and neither would Sosaku.” Tomoe said.
Eliyen smiled, agreeing with Tomoe’s thoughts. “You’re absolutely right. Our lady needs to meet new people her age and make friends outside of the academy. It’s crucial for her personal growth and well-being. She has to experience a life beyond her studies and training.”
“So when you wake our lady up, tell her of our plans today. After we’ve eaten breakfast, we are going to Castle Eradus.” She said to Eliyen.
Eliyen nodded with a grin. “I’ll let her know as soon as she’s up, and we can start our day on a trip to Castle Eradus. It’ll be a fantastic experience for her, and I’m sure she’ll appreciate it.”
“Oh, before I forget, Sosaku might need to hang back in our dorms or perhaps in another Pocket Vivarium. Few would like a slime being in the area, even if it is under the control of our lady,” Tomoe added, and as they came to Aeta’s doors, Tomoe stepped into her usual position to guard the door as Eliyen entered.
Eliyen nodded and stepped into Aeta’s room to find her waking up. She greeted her with a warm smile. “Good morning, my lady. I hope you had a good night’s rest. We have some exciting plans for today. After breakfast, we’re heading to Castle Eradus for a special outing. Tomoe will fill you in on the details, and don’t worry, we’ve got everything covered.”
Aeta looked over at Eliyen, still rubbing the tiredness away from them. “oooh Castle Eradus, that’s the home of the royal family, correct? Were we invited? Or as the daughter of a Provincial Lord, I don’t actually need an invitation?’ she asked, hoping to learn more about customs in the land.
Eliyen nodded in response. “Yes, Castle Eradus is indeed the royal palace. As the daughter of a Provincial Lord, you don’t necessarily need a formal invitation to visit the castle, but it’s still customary to announce your visit to the royal family in advance as a courtesy. However, I’ve made the necessary arrangements, and we’ll be visiting as guests today. It will be a great opportunity to meet some new people and explore the royal palace.”
Aeta smiled at Eliyen’s thoughtfulness. “Alright, then I suppose, since we are visiting the Castle, I shall have to wear the fanciest dress we have at our disposal,” Aeta said as she climbed out of bed and removed her pajamas.
Eliyen nodded with a smile. “That sounds like a splendid idea, my lady. I’ve prepared your best dress for this occasion. It’s important to make a good impression at the castle.” She walked over to a wardrobe and took out a beautiful gown, elegantly designed and richly decorated with intricate patterns and fine fabrics. “I’ll help you get dressed, and then we can have some breakfast before heading to Castle Eradus.”
Aeta nodded her head, “I shall return shortly after my bath then.’ she said as she turned towards it. “Oh, have you set up the bath already?” she asked, wanting to make sure.
Eliyen nodded with a smile. “Yes, my lady. I’ve prepared a nice warm bath for you. Everything is ready for your comfort.” She was always attentive to Aeta’s needs and comforts. “I’ll be here to assist you once you’re ready.”
Aeta smiled as she turned and entered the bath to find it ready and warm. She thought further about her dream, the same library again, in the forest, but she chose to say nothing, as she didn’t want to distract herself from bathing, and after a few minutes, she walked out, ready to have Eliyen put her beautiful dress on her.
Eliyen helped Aeta into her beautiful dress, ensuring it was perfectly adjusted and that Aeta looked stunning. Once she was done, she stepped back and admired her handiwork. “You look lovely, my lady,” she said with a warm smile. “Now, we’re ready to head to the castle.”
Aeta smiled at Eliyen “Agreed, and thank you Eliyen.” she said as she turned to look at a mirror to see herself before she followed Eliyen to the doors where they were joined by Tomoe. “Good Morning Tomoe, slept well?” she asked.
“Good morning, Lady Aeta,” Tomoe replied with a nod. “I did sleep well, thank you. And you’re looking quite radiant in that dress.” She smiled. With everyone ready, they were set to depart for Castle Eradus.
As they passed the dorm cafeteria, Eliyen quickly got their breakfast and brought it with her, so that they could eat as they took a carriage to Castle Eradus. Then, as they entered the carriage and began their journey towards Castle Eradus, Aeta and her companions enjoyed their breakfast. The ride gave them a chance to relax and chat before they reached the royal castle.
“So, the King and Queen are in charge of the entire continent of Nirvalise, which is a kingdom called Nirvalisum? I’m interested in hearing more about them, and their family, such as what they are like as royal family members.” Aeta said to her companions.
“Yes, Lady Aeta, that’s correct,” Eliyen began. “The King and Queen, King Thaladir and Queen Seraphina, are known for being fair and benevolent rulers. They have three children: Prince Leofric, Princess Calista, and Prince Myrrdin. The King and Queen are both strong leaders and highly respected, not just in Nirvalise, but across the continent. They often host events at Castle Eradus, where the nobility and sometimes commoners are invited to meet them.”
Tomoe added, “Prince Leofric is known for his sense of duty and honor. He’s already been involved in some important diplomatic matters. Princess Calista’s beauty and charm are well-known, and she actively participates in charitable work, especially for the impoverished and those affected by natural disasters. Prince Myrrdin is still quite young, but he’s seen as a promising heir.”
Eliyen continued, “The royal family is seen as approachable, and the King and Queen often mingle with their subjects during events and festivals. Today will probably be a casual gathering, as they do from time to time.”
Aeta nodded, taking in the information. “That’s interesting. I look forward to meeting them and learning more about our new home.”
As the carriage continued its journey, they approached the grand entrance of Castle Eradus, where they would soon have the opportunity to meet the royal family of Nirvalisum.
“Oh! What are some gifts they might enjoy? Back on earth, it is seen as rude for a guest not to bring a gift. Is that the same here? Should we stop somewhere?’ Aeta asked.
Eliyen and Tomoe exchanged glances before Eliyen answered, “It’s not a strict custom here to bring gifts to the royal family, especially for casual gatherings. However, it’s always a thoughtful gesture. If you’d like, we could stop at a local shop or market before our visit and choose something special. In that case, some suggestions might include local artisan goods, fine wines, or handcrafted items that represent your province. Though it’s not required, it can be a nice way to show your respect and appreciation.”
Aeta nodded in agreement, and as the carriage approached the castle’s entrance, she decided to take Eliyen’s advice and suggested they stop at a nearby shop to pick up a small gift to present to the royal family during their visit.
The carriage stopped at a shop that was well known in merchant circles especially, those of noble family lineage. Seeing the carriage, and realizing that a child of a Provincial Lord was inside, the shopkeepers swiftly brought their wares out to them. With Eliyen and Tomoe’s help, Aeta made the best choice of the finest wines, handcrafted items, and artisan goods, which did come from Verdantwood Province. Aeta hoped that this could show her respect and appreciation, and also, in the long run, help the couple who have been kind to her.
With their chosen gifts in hand, Aeta, Eliyen, and Tomoe returned to the carriage and headed toward Castle Eradus. As they approached the castle gates, Aeta couldn’t help but feel a mixture of excitement and nervousness. This would be her first visit to the royal palace, and meeting the royal family was both an honor and a unique opportunity.
As they entered the castle grounds, the carriage came to a stop, and palace guards who directed them to the main entrance greeted them. Aeta, carrying the gifts, stepped out of the carriage, followed by Eliyen and Tomoe. They were guided through the grand hallways, past ornate decorations, and into a room where they were to wait before meeting with the royal family.
Aeta took a deep breath, her heart pounding with anticipation. She couldn’t help but wonder what the royal family of Nirvalisum would be like, and what the day would bring.
The Castle Steward, a woman of noble bearing and a commanding presence, walked into the room with an air of authority. Her attire was regal, and she carried herself with grace and poise. She observed Aeta and her companions with a keen eye, her expression a mixture of curiosity and professionalism.
“Good day to you all,” she began, her voice carrying a tone of warmth and formality. “I am Lady Cassandra, the Castle Steward. I understand that you are here to meet with the royal family. I am to escort you to their presence.”
Aeta, Eliyen, and Tomoe exchanged polite greetings with Lady Cassandra. Aeta, clutching the gifts she had chosen, was eager to meet the royal family, but also a bit nervous in the presence of such a distinguished figure.
“Thank you, Lady Cassandra,” Aeta replied with a respectful bow. “We are honored to be here.”
Lady Cassandra acknowledged their response with a nod and then motioned for them to follow her. She led them through the grand corridors of Castle Eradus, sharing tidbits about the castle’s history and architecture along the way. Aeta listened respectfully, taking in the sights and knowledge.
Soon, they arrived at a set of ornate double doors. Lady Cassandra paused and turned to face Aeta. “Beyond these doors, you will meet the royal family. Please, present your gifts with respect and courtesy. Remember, they are gracious hosts.”
With those words of advice, she opened the doors, revealing a beautifully decorated chamber. Inside, the royal family awaited. King Thaladir, Queen Silvana, and their children, Prince Leofric and Princess Calista, greeted them with welcoming smiles. The room was elegantly furnished, and sunlight streamed in through tall windows, casting a warm glow.
Aeta, Eliyen, and Tomoe entered the chamber, and Aeta stepped forward to present the gifts they had carefully chosen for the royal family.
The King, Thaladir, observed the Faun wearing clothes as she approached him. His chamberlain stepped forward to accept the gifts on his behalf, but he could see how carefully they were chosen. “ah, you are Lady Aeta von Siemils. We have heard much about you, that you are very powerful in terms of magic, and you are respectful as well. Your parents have raised a splendid daughter.” He said, then turned to his wife and children. “Do you agree, my dears?”
Aeta respectfully inclined her head as the chamberlain accepted their gifts. She felt a mix of excitement and trepidation being in the presence of the royal family. The King’s words were both surprising and flattering to her, and she felt a rush of pride and gratitude.
Queen Seraphina, Queen of Nirvalisium, nodded with a warm and welcoming smile. “Indeed, Lady Aeta, we have heard of your remarkable abilities and your contributions to the academy. It is a pleasure to finally meet you.”
Prince Leofric and Princess Calista, who had been silent, stepped forward with genuine interest. “You’re from the academy, right?” Prince Leofric asked. “We heard you’re a Faun, but you’re wearing clothes.”
Princess Calista, with a curious glint in her eyes, added, “And you brought us gifts? That was very thoughtful of you.”
Aeta smiled kindly and replied, “Yes, Your Majesties, I am Aeta von Siemils, and it is an honor to meet you. I am indeed a Faun, but I have adapted to local customs. The gifts are a small token of my respect and gratitude for your hospitality.”
King Thaladir seemed pleased with the interaction, and the Queen also expressed her appreciation. “We are pleased to have you here, Lady Aeta. Please, join us for a while. We would love to hear more about your experiences at the academy and your interests in magic.”
Aeta, with her companions by her side, settled into conversation with the royal family, sharing stories about her magical studies and experiences. It was a rare and delightful opportunity to converse with the highest-ranking members of the Nirvalisium royal family. Something she enjoyed, and their accents, reminiscent of the British, added an air of elegance to the entire interaction. As they discussed various topics, including Aeta’s magical studies, her experiences at the academy, and the traditions of both her homeland and her new residence, she felt a genuine connection with the royal family. Their genuine interest in her and her respect for them made the exchange pleasant and memorable.
After a delightful conversation, they decided to explore more of Castle Eradus. Aeta learned about the various chambers and the history behind the castle’s construction and its significance as the capital’s royal residence. She also had the opportunity to see some of the priceless artworks and relics housed in the castle’s grand halls.
As they continued to explore, she couldn’t help but feel grateful for the opportunity to interact with the royal family and experience the grandeur of Castle Eradus. It was a day she would cherish, and her visit to the castle would leave a lasting memory with her for a lifetime.
Aeta began to think of the royal family as friends, but a messenger soon distracted from her thoughts her. “Forgive my interruption, my king, but I have to report, the Verdantwood Province, the capital, was attacked! It appeared that demons and victims of otherworld summoning were the ones, though it appears the demons were controlling the otherworlders!”
The grim news immediately shattered the joyful atmosphere within the castle. King Thaladir and Queen Seraphina exchanged worried glances, their children looking up in alarm. Aeta also felt a pang of concern. The peaceful Verdantwood Province, her home, was under attack by demons and those influenced by the demons.
King Thaladir’s expression turned stern and determined as he addressed the messenger. “Thank you for your report. We must act swiftly to protect our subjects. Gather our forces and send aid to Verdantwood Province immediately. Lady Aeta, you’ve shown remarkable magical prowess. If you’re willing, I would appreciate your assistance in dealing with this crisis. Your knowledge and abilities could be invaluable in this dire situation.”
Aeta nodded solemnly, accepting the responsibility placed upon her. “Of course, Your Majesty. I’ll do whatever I can to help.”
With a sense of urgency, the royal family and their new guest prepared to confront the unforeseen threat to the capital, Verdantwood Province, and the entire kingdom of Nirvalisium.
“Aerith!” Aeta said, and in a flash, the spirit of space and time appeared. “We need a quick teleport home, to the capital of Verdantwood Province!” she said, ready to come to the aid of her family, and her adopted home.
Aerith nodded and, without delay, she channeled her teleportation magic to transport Aeta and her companions back to the capital of Verdantwood Province. As they arrived, they found the city in turmoil, with signs of destruction and chaos. It had turned the once peaceful place into a war zone.
Aeta’s heart sank as she looked around. She felt a strong desire to help protect her home and its people. “We must act quickly and decisively,” she said to Tomoe and Eliyen. “Let’s see if we can find any survivors or those in need of assistance. The spirits and the Golem should be ready to help, too. We’ll do our best to restore order and protect the people of Verdantwood.”
With determination, Aeta led her companions into the heart of the city, where they would face the challenges and dangers that awaited them.
As Aeta rushed forward to join the battle, she called on Fyra and Aqualis to join them as well as the golem. When Fyra and Aqualis reappeared, they looked different. The training she’d had them do turned Aqualis into an ice spirit, and Fyra became a plasma spirit. With Fyra transformed into a plasma spirit and Aqualis into an Ice spirit, their powers had grown significantly. Aeta’s Golem was also ready to assist. The combination of these powerful allies would be a formidable force in defending Verdantwood.
