Rémy arrested Jared the next morning. He waited until Arnie Arceneaux had left for Jackson. The chief brought along two uniformed officers. He was gentle with the boy, but firm. The real intimidation would start when he was stripped at the station house.

He barely heard the words as the two uniforms led him away.
“How’d I do, Rémy?”
“It’s not how you did, it’s how you’re gonna do.” He unbuckled his belt as Kitty said, “Oh.” Then she grinned and shrugged out of her robe.
