In Kate Broussard’s quest to sexualize Sausalito, there was one elusive target-audience left that she was just beginning to make inroads on. The true, normal, conventional, everyday mothers who had no links to Kate nor to Miss Kitty’s.

When Kate announced a brand new beauty pageant — Sexiest Mom in Town — it caused the usual ripple of interest and speculation. But most people thought of it as just one more of Kate’s projects. They missed the underlying goal — to sexualize the most proper women in town.

The Sausalito Chronicle gave the news front-page, top-of-the-fold coverage with an explanation that did catch the town’s attention:

Yes, this is a beauty contest — entrants will be judged on their physical attributes — face and figure. But, in addition, you local girls will be assessed on your sexual attitude. What have you done in bed? What are you willing to do?

But it was Kate’s appearance on Shannon Says that really set the town abuzz. The 15-minute, Monday-morning show was listened to by the majority of households in Sausalito and also down in the Cajun Bayous.

The guests usually talked about something racy — like a cocksucking contest for teachers or the annual Cum Cup, awarded to the first girl to suck off 50 guys.

The dialogue often ranged from explicit to obscene — the show was immensely popular with adults and their children alike. In this instance, Kate had prepped Shannon by giving her a list of questions to ask.

“There certainly are. But, Shannon, here’s what makes this pageant different — it’s open only to those local mothers who have never worked for me.”

“No — they’re semipros — this is amateurs only.”

“So every other mother is eligible?”

“No, not at all. Those moms who made a nude video for me — either applying at Miss Kitty’s or lobbying Darlene Pellerin to hire their daughters at Contrary Mary’s — they can’t enter the pageant either.”

“Whoa! Any other restrictions Sausalito should know about?”
