Chapter 5

Jeff’s thoughts that his date with Diane was going to be interesting were proven to be true. It started when he pressed the doorbell button to her townhome, which was located in a gated community. The door was opened by a young man who Jeff would guess was a high school student.

“Excuse me, “Jeff said. “I thought this was Diane Curtis’s home.”

“It is, please come in. I am Kevin Curtis and my mom is still getting ready. Please have a seat. Mom says you are an airline pilot. Can you tell me how you became a pilot?”

Jeff was initially surprised that Diane had a son. For some reason, he never considered that possibility. He remembered she did say she had been married for five years, so he shouldn’t have been surprised.

Jeff gave Kevin who he could see was paying attention, a summary from his college days, to his years in the Air Force, and now as a commercial airline pilot. He mentioned the types of planes he was qualified to fly.

Diane came into the room wearing a flattering dark blue dress and said, “I can see Kevin is giving you the third degree. He has an interest in becoming a pilot.”

Jeff said it was nice meeting Kevin when they left to go to the restaurant.

During the drive, Jeff said he was surprised when Kevin opened the door. He had never thought that Diane would have a son.

“Is that a problem?’

“Not in the least, it just was that I was surprised. He seems like a good kid.”

“He is that and is getting high marks in school. As I said, he is thinking of becoming a pilot.”

“What about Kevin’s father?”

“We still are friends. Steve has remarried, but he is a good father to Kevin whom he sees every third weekend. He pays child support and has never been late in doing that. He says he will pay for Kevin’s college education, but that may not be necessary. My father is a long-time friend of our senior Senator in Congress. The Senator has said he will nominate Kevin if he wants to the service academy of his choice. Kevin is debating between the Naval and the Air Force Academies. I think he is leaning toward the Air Force because the long naval ship deployments are a negative for him.”

“Well, there are pluses and cons in both. If he wants, I can give my opinion on the Air Force and tell him what to expect.”

The conversation switched to Jeff telling her about the unruly passenger on the plane and his oil paintings being displayed at the gallery. Diane mentioned some of the things that happened at the library with students doing research.

Jeff mentioned her living in a townhome in this gated community. Diane said she purchased two units just after this development’s construction was announced. That was around the time she was getting divorced. Her father encouraged her to buy two units and borrowed her money for the down payments. One unit was rented out and she lived in the other unit. After five years she sold the unit she was living in for double what she paid and moved into the other unit she owned. Her doing this was to avoid capital gains taxes. Her father was paid back and the two mortgages were paid off.

Back at her home, there was no invitation for Jeff to come in. With Kevin at home and this being his first date with Diane, Jeff didn’t expect her to ask him in. They both agreed it was a nice time and said they would like to do this again.

On the drive back to his home, he thought about Diane and couldn’t help but wonder how it would be to make love with her. He had a smile on his face in thinking that. At the same time, her having a son who was a sophomore in high school also had him wondering and he wasn’t sure what to think about that. Kevin seemed like a nice, well-mannered young man who had his head on straight. Jeff could only wait to see what if anything would develop between him and Diane.

Jeff received a phone call from Kay. She asked Jeff to be her escort to the wedding of a flight attendant. His schedule was clear for the date of the wedding which had him agree to attend this wedding with her.

He suspected Kay would go all out in dressing for this occasion since there would be other flight attendants there. He was right in that assumption. She was wearing a black dress that you wouldn’t call a basic black dress. That was because the V of the neckline plunged far enough to show the complete sides of her breasts. This dress was definitely an eye-catcher.

This was a large wedding and corresponding reception. Coming back from the bar carrying two drinks, Jeff saw Kay talking to a couple. The lady in this group was wearing a tight dark green strapless cocktail dress. Her back was to him and he admired her nice legs and the curve of her ass. In handing a drink to Kay, Jeff could see he had been admiring Emily. He had seen her wearing slacks and the pilot’s uniform, but he had never seen her in a dress. The pilot’s uniform for women was in no way flattering. Seeing her like this with her wearing her hair up was a definite eye-opener.

Emily greeted him warmly saying he looked good in the dark suit he was wearing. She introduced Jeff to her escort Tyler Kellerman. Jeff shook hands with Tyler and told Emily that she too looked good.

It turned out that Emily and Tyler were seated with Kay and Jeff at a table for eight for the meal. The other two couples were amiable and the conversation, for the most part, centered on flying. The unscheduled landing that Jeff made because of the unruly passenger was one of the topics they discussed. Emily said she had heard this unruly passenger was hit with a big fine and the airline banned him for life for flying with them.

During the meal, there were the expected speeches. When the meal was over the band started playing. The bride and groom had the first dance and in a short time, were joined by their parents. It wasn’t long after that the dance floor was open to all the guests.

Jeff who was not a great dancer, didn’t need to be as Kay was right up against him pressing herself to him. He would admit that Kay was a good presser and he started to become aroused.
