1: Any Soldier by Lubrican
I found the characters delightful and I found myself cheering as they worked through Army red tape and REMF's.
2: The Earl's Man by FantasyLover
I found this to be a well written story of love and ideals that though fiction, did not take on supernatural or 'modernistic' tendencies. Instead, it showed what could be accomplished by an intelligent, thoughtful, humble and caring leader... one who cared more for his people than his own sense of 'self' or his own comforts. Oh, what the world would be like today if we had such leaders, both in our past and in our present.
3: Loving Amy by Tallorder64
First read this story when I was at a crossroads in my life. There was something there that helped inspire me to write my first story, Ashes to Ashes. Easy to relate to characters experiencing tender love in a time of sadness and despair.
4: Oh Boy by Dual Writer
I have enjoyed almost everything DW has written. but I personally think this is his best. The characters come across as real people and the story line kept my interest from the beginning. What's more is that it did it with out any violent action - no terrorists, bank robbers or gangsters. It is well worth the read, and I hope there's an 'Oh Boy II'.
5: Protect and Serve by Paul Phenomenon
This is a great tale of someone trying to recover his memory while others are trying to kill him. Excellent mystery, good plot, good mixture of action and dialog, along with a slowly developing love story.
6: Recluse and Ghost by Dual Writer
In some ways, this story and it's appeal is hard to describe, yet the truth is in it's simplicity. It is a story of changes and challenges, of family and friendships, of faith and faithfulness. Having spent part of my youth on a farm, it was also full of reality and remembrances and the complexity of simple farm life. The leading character, a retired army master sergeant, is competent and decisive, confident and a good leader, yet at the same time also humble and modest causing many to be drawn to him and become a part of his extended family.
7: Scout by Warlord
Though it's listed as incomplete and inactive, this is complete enough to stand on its own. This is a thoroughly enjoyable SciFi story, full of great characters who seem to really love one another. It has an excellent plot, prolonged and well described action and a lot of humor. I reread it at least 4 times a year.
8: Six-Months Turnaround by Morgan
Good characters, mystery, action, humor, realistic business model. My first Morgan story, and still my favorite.
9: The Solitary Arrow by Mack the Knife
For some reason, I have this thing for elfish fantasy, and this on one of the better ones.
10: Wild West by Warlord
Though it's listed as incomplete and inactive, this is complete enough to stand on its own. One of the best time travel, old west stories on the web. I reread it at least 3 times a year. Warlord does a good job on the characters, the plot, the action, and the imagery. The characters don't come across as know it all and there are some interesting twists and turns.
