But he was living a perfect life until the Japanese spoiled the fun. The misery of Santo Tomas showed him who he was, and a tough Army nurse made him into the man he wanted to be. I post a story every July to honor folks who've served, and I try to focus on obscure people in each. I'm from a generation where guys returning from honorable service weren't given the credit they deserved. That was also the case with the Women Air Service Pilots—the WASPs. So, I wanted to tell the story of those brave women. The plot is a coming-of-age tale… sort of a latter-day Pilgrim's Progress—and most of the characters are real. Please enjoy…

Every 4th of July, I post a tribute to those who’ve served. The main character evolves from childhood to adulthood, which happens when you take the oath. I try to highlight lesser-known contributors to ensure that they are also memorialized, and this year’s story certainly fits that bill. Before researching this, my only knowledge of the 442nd RCT came courtesy of Mr. Miyagi in The Karate Kid, which is unfortunate, since those were real-life heroes and this is their true story. I try to post something every Fourth, to honor those who've served. So, please let the length of this little tale be a testament to the respect that I have for all of you. This is, in-effect, Pilgrim's Progress, set in World War Two. It takes our hero on the fraught journey from youthful naïveté to adult capability via virtues that everybody in the military understand, honor, courage, and commitment. The war crime at the center of this happened, even if the payback is in my imagination.

This takes the narrator on a trip from callow youth to mature wisdom. The historical context is the construction of the transcontinental railway. But the plot is focused on the narrator's personal evolution, which in many respects would be the same in any time period. This is a long one. So, you always face the problem of how to post it. Personally, I prefer to get the whole thing in a single package rather than have it dribbled out in installments. I hope you enjoy my little story... DT

Perhaps it's as well as she's 18 years old and only a blind man could fail to notice that she's a woman. In the course of her travels she helps desperate people, and rescues damsels in distress. But it comes at a high price to Jacqueline which even some much needed sexual relief can't recompense.

California of 1850 provides a bountiful source of adventure and some sex as John Wilson winds up cleaning up a part of San Francisco. Mostly, he goes after kidnappers, and that proves very lucrative as he assumes the persona of a detective and troubleshooter. Not only that, but he establishes his own version of the Baker Street Irregulars.
